If you are visiting China and prefer to live like a local, then don't bother reading this. But if you would like to take a break and indulge on coffee and burgers, read on. Compass Cafe is in the old town. Go to main square, exit by antiques shop, turn immediately right, then it's about 50 metres on the left....

We toured Yunan for a week and the family appreciated a break from the local food! The staff is very friendly, and speaks English. Pizzas with local cheese, kids menu, burgers, good cookies and cakes... Very nice place to eat, just a minute from the old town square where local people dance in the evening.

Stayed in old Town, Compass was by far the nicest cafe serving huge breakfast, perfect for the day's trekking. Local tea/ Coffee is included, wifi and free mineral water...Perfect even if you're on a budget.

Wooden boutique Hotel in the middle of Shangri-La, great escape for fine rest at the bar, in the wonderful patio or the good restaurant. Friendliness of service great. A good stay if you want to pause from rushing China in calmness and slowliness.

Amazing food - great menu encompassing Italian, Mexican, Indian, soups and sandwiches. Desserts were joy filled- my 9 year old and 10 year old wanted to be adopted by the restaurant- they were so in heaven with their food selection and spectacular taste. Compass also runs a bed and breakfast- we took a peek. Very charming and cozy and polished....

This is a very cozy place, the food is good and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Located just outside of Old town. Parking outside on the road. This Bed and Breakfast has a small lounge area outside the rooms.

This is a cozy lodge with a very convenient location and very reasonable prices. Loft room was well-appointed. The bathroom was very modern and clean. Shower had heat lamps which I assume would be wonderful in the winter. Double bed was really hard and it was difficult to sleep at night because noise from the street is quite bothersome. I...

Lovely place, great service and only a stone throw from the ancient town. I'm very glad that they have taken guests' feedback and made a double window to cut out the noise from the traffic. It's a lodge, not a five-star hotel so I appreciate them taking feedback seriously and improving their services and facilities, slowly but surely, which makes...

My trip to Shangri La at Diqing, Tibet was rewarded with not just a feast for my eyes, but also my appetite at Compass Cafe. I ended up having almost all my meals there. The host & hostess are meticulous in their services to ensure our comfort in their cafe lodge to meet our needs in 'body, soul, spirit'. Not...

Our group of 15 spent 8 days touring Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge and Shangri-La. We spent 3 nights at Compass Hotel. Compass Hotel is by far the best hotel we came across in our trip. The quality standards and service we encountered was unmatched. We had no complaints about the rooms and the food. The staff were very polite, spoke...

The Tibetan word for compass is "shu deng ku le", meaning comfort, light, abundance, and joy. We hope that The Compass will provide you with a comfortable stay at the lodge, and the services rendered to you will leave you feeling a home away from home.
