Just returned from a 3 night stay at this gem of an hotel.

Fantastic location, wonderful helpful friendly staff, beautiful spotless bedroom with superb views and superb food. The staff make you feel so welcome and there is a very relaxed informal atmosphere in the hotel but the staff are on the ball all the time to attend to your every need.

The food was excellent but my only criticism would be that they could maybe put a few more meat dishes on the menu for those who don't like fish every night!

Such a cosy relaxing place and for such a remote area there is always something to watch either out at sea or at the pier with boats and the ferry coming and going all the time.

Can't wait to go back
Thank Maggiefife

What an excellent hotel this is. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable with a brilliant shower. The owners are keen to enhance the environment and to our delight there was a bird feeder outside the window attracting loads of small birds. The setting of this place is stunning .The hotel makes the most of its location with a warm vibe and knowledge about the locality. The food is pretty good too. The staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Although we normally stay in B and Bs this was a great treat and good value for the money.

A very warm welcome on a cold, wet day... As visitors to the area, we were invited in to a warm and cosy restaurant. All our queries for advice on where to go and what to see were answered as we devoured a delicious vegetarian haggis dish... Thank you to all staff for the friendly atmosphere and very satisfied bellies!!

I had dinner at the Pierhouse in 1991 and when I reread my travel diary, I decided to make a return visit. I exchanged many emails with the wonderfully helpful Caroline to set up our visit. We arrived after a long drive from Edinburgh through rain and flooded roads. The waves were churning up the water and the last ferry was collecting passengers for the island of Lismore directly across the harbor. We quickly put our luggage in our lovely and calm room overlooking a cliff covered with dancing vines and lush greenery. There was space to put everything away and retain the serene feel of the room. We went to the cozy bar area to warm up and were greeted by the indefatigably charming, warm, gracious, and knowledgeable and fun Lorraine with whom we had many discussions about life in the area while enjoying a pint or a glass of wine. We had dinner each night in the dining room and were never disappointed with the food. The view of the harbor in the moonlight provided another perfect touch. We enjoyed the dining room staff as well: The Vietnam traveler (you know who you are) and our asparagus man (you know who you are) as much as the deliciously fresh and well-prepared choices. The hike to the Stalker castle allowed us to view the castle from many angles. The owners were away so we could not visit, but allowed ourselves to create our own story of the castle.A new manager had just arrived (sorry, but I am not sure I remember your name. I think it was Claire and it was lovely to get to know you) who will surely see that the wonderful traditions of the Pierhouse are carried on. We took a ferry ride to Lismore and spent time with Robert who brought the island and it inhabitants to life for us.

Yes, I fully agree with NippySweeties Review here. The food was an out & out disaster. This chef cannot even poach breakfast eggs - they were rock solid. The overall food experience is extremely poor, and we ended up eating at Aird's - quarter of a mlle away, and a million times more classy.

With breathtaking views to the islands of Lismore and Mull, our intimate twelve bedroom hotel, bar and renowned seafood restaurant has won a fast-growing reputation as one of Argyll's most idyllic and More romantic destinations. We pride ourselves on the freshness & quality of our seafood and local meats, sourcing most of our food locally. We strive to offer our guests something different - a personal and relaxed family atmosphere, stunning location and deliciously fresh food. Less
