Olivia House (OH!) is one of the most friendly, warm, welcoming and enjoyable places I have ever stayed in. Upon arrival we were promptly greeted by Anette who explained everything to us. Guests receive their own front door key and there is no curfew. In the gorgeous front sitting room there is free wine, free cakes and free sweets. There are sweet bowls all over the B&B so guests can help themselves. They also had the brilliant idea of putting extra tea and milk into jars in the hallway, so if you run out you don’t have to go looking for somebody to ask. The room we stayed in (the “Gemini” room) was completely spotless. The space is small but they make the best use of it. Little things around the room showed the level of care the owner has put into it. For example, the bathroom has a small automatic nightlight so if you get up at night you don’t have to fumble about for the light switch. There was a pair of spare reading glasses, real Versace towels, bath robes, a hairdryer, loads of pillows and even some complimentary chocolates because it was my friend’s birthday. I’m also glad to say that the room was always warm, given how freezing it was outside. I’ve stayed in chain hotels that were nowhere near as cosy. Nobody really goes on holiday to only watch television but we had the luxury of Freeview, iPlayer and Netflix. In terms of location, Porthcawl is a small place anyway but Olivia House is right next to the Grand Pavilion so it’s ideal if you’re seeing a show. It is also within walking distance of the shops, eateries etc. So unless you’re going further out (for example Margam Park) then there’s really no need to drive. There is free on-street parking all day every day. If I ever find myself in Porthcawl again I’ll certainly be staying here. The only thing I can't fully comment on is the price because we were there off-season. It was £240 for two people over three nights but I'm not sure if that goes up in Summer. But for us it was value for money and I was relieved that such a beautiful B&B was affordable. On a side note… The owner has seven cats, six of which are Sphynx. So if you’re curious to meet them, all you have to do is ask. They’re extremely affectionate creatures (shout out to baby Elvis!). My only suggestion: Since the rooms have almost everything a guest could desire, I would suggest maybe having a few sanitary products in the bathroom for the ladies. You already have the disposable bags for them so they’d be handy on the off-chance that somebody needs something :) I should also mention that there is no lift and the stairs are very narrow, so it may not be suitable for someone who can't walk very well. However this isn't a criticism, it's simply due to the structure of the building so it isn't the owners fault.

Stayed just the one night to catch a show in the Pavilion as a birthday treat. Had a warm welcome, the Balcony Room is superb with sea views and literally round the corner from the Pavilion. Luxurious bedding, thick towels, chocolates, bath robes... what else do you need? How about complimentary wine, welsh cakes, mincepies etc in the lounge? This is a property full of character with something of interest to catch your eye everywhere you look, will definately be returning!

I stayed at OH with my daughter for one night, having arranged to see a show in the Grand Pavilion (Literally 2 minutes away). Parking was a little difficult, but Annette came outside to advise us and even waited at the door until we found a space. We received a very warm welcome and were immediately offered a choice of complimentary wines and sweet treats. We stayed in the balcony suite. A lovely, spacious open plan room with dimmed lighting in the bedroom area and brighter lighting in the adjoining room with a beautiful make up table and a luxurious bath. The room even had its own set of GHD straighteners as well as a hairdryer. There was a separate shower room and toilet with complimentary toiletries. Annette is very thoughtful and we found a Birthday card and some chocolates left as a gift for my daughter. Towels and robes were also provided. We felt thoroughly pampered before our evening out and had a lovely chat with Annette when we arrived back after the show. The room was equipped with Sky Tv and a WiFi code was provided. Being right on the seafront, there was a fair bit of noise going on immediately outside, but it did settle down eventually. The bed was large and comfortable, but I had trouble sleeping as I’m so noise sensitive and suffer from allergies and I did find that the bedding made me itch a little. My daughter had no such reaction and slept quite soundly. Annette was also helpful in recommending places to eat and the Esplanade cafe for breakfast was a great find. Thank you once again Annette for your hospitality.

Well where do i start..... What an absolutely stunning, enchanting building with beautiful rooms! Every room has a different theme and ours was the kings room. The host could not do enough for us, free wine was offered to us in the sitting room as well as muffins, chocolate, welsh cakes and mince pies. Rooms had everything with lovely extra touches such as a christmas selection box placed on our bed. We were woken up with the beautiful sunrise from the sea. I did not want to leave and can not wait to book again! Thank you Annette and we will see you soon, love Rebecca & Gemma x
