A chance to stay in a real castle! Wonderful mix of old style bedrooms and salons but with upmarket modern comfort. The rooms have authentic features and have unique styles and lots of characters. From the windows, the views of the castle, the countryside, or the small town are really picturesque. The service is excellent and communication from staff is great, even from those who don’t speak English but still manage to understand exactly what is needed. The breakfast buffet is lovely.

Stunning castle setting with magnificent guest lounges. Great view from restaurant; large cafe. Receptionist insisted on carrying our cases to our room for us. No information book or robe/slippers in the room but otherwise clean and comfortable. Great stay.

Fabulous historical building with superb views over the surrounding countryside. The town was quiet with just a few watering holes and the odd restaurant. It's an ideal spot as a base for touring the area. Onsite parking was perfect and reception seemed efficient. Our room was quiet, large and beautifully decorated. It is not a culinary experience here though - service is very patchy and the food is nothing more than ok. Breakfast was reasonable but not a very welcoming atmosphere although the views from tables was nice. The hot 'chef' food available was almost hidden away and clearly an 'effort' of you wanted it. The rest of breakfast wasn't bad with decent choice etc. Dinner / snacks were only average in fact a couple of snacks we had in the bar area were below average as was the service. All in all we wouldn't return here which is a shame as it's a lovely site and building. It comes under the bracket of 'could so so much better'....as usual it comes down to people and to some extent ingredients. If we're honest it's 3 pushing 4 but because it's a Parador somehow we expect more.

Most reviewers give this hotel 5 stars and I will do the same. It occupies an excellent position, is a fascinating old building with some stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Our bedroom - and I guess all the others - was wonderfully quiet at night as there is no nearby main road, railway line or airport! I was intrigued by the Brandt electric kettle in our bedroom. I had never come across one like it before. It is programmable so you can set your desired temperature and it switches itself off when it reaches it. Very useful as you don’t always want boiling water. Back home in England I wanted to buy one which was not easy as it is not on general sale in the UK but I did succeed getting one imported from France! We enjoyed aperitifs on the balcony and found the food up to Parador best standards. We only had two small disappointments. The first was surprising as here we were, in Spain, yet the bar did not serve sherry. The lady behind the bar showed no enlightenment when I mentioned “a very famous Spanish aperitif from Jerez”. The second was about the TV in our bedroom. There were many channels but not a single news channel in English, in particular not even the BBC World Service news which I have found in hotels all over the world. Finally a word on their excellent parking, plenty of spaces and really secure in their own courtyard - very good.

This is probably the best parador we have stayed in among some 8-10 during the last few years. Stately yet intimate salons and lounges, a super terrace, a very comfortable room, great views of the landscape, a good breakfast in the stylish restaurant. The staff was very welcoming and friendly.

I have spent the last week in Spain, and have been staying at many Paradores around Madrid. Oropesa has been the best experience by far! The food was amazing, the room spacious and comfortable, and who wouldn't want to stay in a castle? However, the best part has been the customer service. I am not knocking the service at other Paradores, but Veronica at the front desk has made this visit a special one. I speak very limited Spanish, and she was sympathetic and patient with me. By the end of our conversation I was able to ask for everything I needed in Spanish. There is nothing that would encourage me to revisit a hotel more than the welcoming environment she has created here between her hospitality and smile. This girl deserves a raise! This trip has made me want to revisit Spain before some of the other locations on my travel list, and I think that speaks for itself.

One of the nicest Paradores we've visited! Our room was spacious and well furnished, with views over the rooftops of the little town. The bathroom too was excellent, with a separate internal area with a glass door for the lavatory and bidet. It was attractive too, with traditional tiling. The Parador being made out of an old castle meant that it was full of nooks and crannies, easy to get lost between your room and the restaurant, but that was just part of the charm! Do go down, carefully and minding your head, into the tiny underground oratory-chapel of San Pedro de Alcántara. And also sit outside on a terrace overlooking the castle, or on one of the glassed terraces in the dining room, looking over the plain below. The food was excellent, really really outstanding. Try the croquetas made with sheep's milk and flavoured with tiny cubes of ham. Marvellous! And the meat dishes too were tasty and tender. We shall return!

Parador de Oropesa is a great hotel to escape from the noise of the larger cities while enjoying a quiet place to stay in a clean comfortable room. It is a quick get away from Madrid, with a real castle to explore and quaint town to stroll in the afternoon for a meal or a drink in the evening at the plaza. However, having a refreshing drink or a tasty meal at the Parador itself while enjoying the panoramic view is also a great way to spend part of the day. The pool area is also a nice, private area to relax under the sun. And best of all is the first rate staff. Everyone is so friendly and courteous.

Very historic building with stunning views of the Gredos. The beds are rock hard and the Parador needs new investment. The room safes are opened with your credit card using the magnetic stripe, a feature from the 1980’s. Food is good, breakfast buffet but not many staff available to ask for hot dishes. The swimming pool was closed on 1st September but was clearly working. A missed opportunity to close it as its one less facility for Guests to use. Weather was 25 degrees when we stayed so not cold. Parking is a bit haphazard and there is no enforcement of it. The chairs and sofas are warn and could do with recovering. Staff are very attentive
