Ibo Alfaro Rural Hotel is an old Canarian house built 200 years ago and restored between 1994 and 1996, when its inauguration took place. It is one of the first rural hotels in Canary Islands and the first in La Gomera. Certainly a referent and very well known internationally. Located in one of the slopes of the impressive Valley of Hermigua, its 20 rooms have spectacular views, which is one the hotel main attractive. The surroundings, with lovely gardens, quiet and relaxing terraces and spaces where fruits and vegetables are grown, make the hotel a wonderful place to rest. The interiors meet guest's expectations. Our rooms, with bathrooms recently refurbished and without Wi-Fi or TVs, connect you with your inner self and make you fell relax and in peace and harmony with nature. A healthy and enjoyable breakfast, with local products and also super tasty fruits and vegetables of our own harvest, is the perfect excuse to start the day early and explore one of the multiple hikes.

A very nice place with excellent standard. Comfortable room and luxury bathroom. The breakfast was generous and of good quality. Unfortunately the hotel does not offer dinner. The location is uphills and the walk to and back from close by small eating places is quite demanding.

Stayed here for a night whilst touring La Gomera. This small hotel is charming and the views are fantastic. Isobel was very helpful prior to our arrival. The hotel is 10 mins walk from the bus stop (ask for the “pharmacy” stop), although up a very steep hill!

Even though the reception wasn’t occupied when arriving our room key was ready. It was left in place together with a charming welcoming letter including restaurant tips around the corner. Fantastic setting on the mountain side allowing breath taking views from bed before enjoying a lovely and very versatile breakfast. Thx a lot.

Hard to praise Isabel, the hotel manager, highly enough. We were the last guests to leave on the 20th March 2020. All of Spain was on lockdown from, effectively, the 15th. The breakfasts were indeed excellent, as everyone says, but this is about what happened when things got tough. Our flight back was the 20th, and Jet2 (who also responded wonderfully in our experience) kept to the schedule, flying from Tenerife South to Leeds Bradford at 20:10. We'd booked on a Fred Olsen ferry, which disappeared off the schedule on about the 16th, without telling us. Isabel re-booked us on an early one (Spanish website, tricky for us!). She then rang round all the restaurants in Hermigua, and got a solitary one (Cafeteria Garo) to provide takeways; all the rest closed completely. By the 18th and 19th I think he was just cooking for me and my wife. Our hire car had an engine fault - Isabel sorted us with a Plan B to get to the crack-of-dawn ferry. There was a huge picnic waiting for us in the fridge at 6 am, which fed us during the 10 hour wait at the airport. Maybe there should be a six-star rating available? Isabel (and Jana) we love you.

We stayed here for four nights as a base for walking. It serves well for that, although you really need a car to access any non local walks. The rooms are comfortable, with and excellent power shower. The only real downside was poor housekeeping, with nothing replenished over four nights, and bedding not changed, hence the rating.
