Physically the place is a bit worn out, BUT this is well compensated by the friendliness of the owners, the extreme proximity of ski hill (1 min walk!), and the general functionality of the place. Lockers for skis. Good introduction to Japanese style pension, with common amenities. Generally calm. Overheated when we were there, but I think people like that...

This is the only Ryokan I have stayed in, so it's a little hard to judge. Location for skiing is excellent, a bit out of the way in summer (as we were), but buses run right outside the door, so not really a problem. There are a few decent places to eat a short walk away, the Ryokan also does...

A lovely little Japanese guesthouse run by a really welcoming couple. Good location for skiing as it is just by the ski lifts. It is a perfect place if you want to feel like you are staying in Japan as the meals are nice home cooked Japanese food. But it is not a posh hotel, it is a guesthouse so...

My Japanese friend booked this place for me when I asked for near ski lift location. This location was so convenient right in front of Kitanomine ski lift and Lavender shuttle bus stop was 10 m away.
