This was my fourth visit to Sabalos Lodge and it never disappoints. Very hospitable hands on ownership and staff. Food was excellent and views are magnificent! So many accommodations in the middle of a rainforest makes this place a very unique experience off the beaten path.

Hello Mr. LethalFire I am glad that the beauty of the river, the rustic of our cabins and the effort of the team at the hotel, encourage you to keep coming back. See you next year.

This unique lodge is in a lovely setting, the cabins which are on stilts are quite private and special. The decks and views are great. Meals were okay. Only frustration was being isolated though you can walk over the hill 20 minutes to enter the small town of Sabalos. The river/jungle tour arranged through the lodge was good. We did...

Hello LJL I'm glad you liked Sabalos Lodge Thanks for the suggestion to include the information about town at 20 minutes away. About how to get there, you are correct. We need local authorities to improve permits to make transport connections easier to reach. That is still in the process, and we are asking for it to happen. Regards

This place is a little slice of Heaven located on the Rio San Juan. The people and the place are both awesome. Surrounded by a tropical rainforest we saw everything from Caimans, sloths, howler monkeys, iguanas, to tiny tree frogs and hummingbirds. The cabins are elevated with a great view of the river. The owner would always joke his workers...

Hello Mr. Chris We have done a great job convincing the monkeys, caimans, sloths, green basilisc, iguanas, hummingbirds and more, to come to visit around next to the cabins. Hehe. see you next year.

This is a great lodge with spacious cabanas and welcoming hosts. There are several little spots to sit down and relax, all of them with a roof as it rains pretty often. But hey, how else will the beautiful jungle surrounding the lodge stay green? We went on a cayman tour with a tour guide arranged via the lodge. It...

Hello Tessa. Thanks for your nice comment of the lodge. All the tours offered by Sabalos Lodge, are develop by communitarian, this way we provide the local people the opportunity to do alternative job instead of impact the fragile forest. Sometime the weather conditions could affect some activities. Regards Rafael

Our stay (2 female friends traveling Nicaragua) was amazing. Stayed at the Tarzan cabin, recommended, with great view on the river. The staff is very kind and friendly and they do everything to make you feel at home. They give you much useful information about tours, transport and the area. The tours were well arranged, friendly English speaking guides, they...

A own little house on poals on the historic river Rio Son Juan. Very romantic, quiet and peaceful place to spend some nights. Sleeping under the stars, waking up by howlermonkies and bird sounds, its just what you expect (and more) from a cabin at this very special location. The staff is very helpful and there are many activities to...

Hello Robert. I’m glad you like your visit in Sabalos Lodge. We will arrange for a larger portion of the meals thanks for let me know. In the pass we use kerosene to light the internal trails, but the excessive rain of the rain forest always disturb the kerosene lights, then we exchange for electrical ones that keep working better....

Well worth a visit! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sabalos Lodge (although 1 night was not enough). The open air cabina's over looking the Rio San Juan are amazing. Great place for relaxing in a hammock, watching wildlife and arranging various excursions into the jungle. There aren't really any local amenities, but that's what we liked about it -...

This is a special place - worth the trek from San Carlos and a good base to explore. Easy access to El Castillo and lots of tours.
