Detailed Reviews
Spent 3 nights at this friendly and helpful hotel in the Autumnal warmth of this part of the Cévennes. Reserved kerbside parking is directly outside the front door. Our room was comfortable with a douche italienne which is good for me with limited mobility. Dining is by the pool in a courtyard space. Pool temp is always 28deg. The menu was excellent and dishes were sensibly sized. It’s a great place to explore this typically sunny inland Mediterranean small town. The family who own this were most informative and recommended other eateries as well as offering me a beer on the house. Thoroughly nice and comfy place. We will use this many times in the future I’m sure.

A perfect location. Only minutes from the La Merdiene motorway and a perfect stop over. A pictuesque town with plenty to see beautifully situated with stunning architecture on the banks of Lergue river. Spacious rooms well furnished with excellent bathrooms. A great view from the front rooms over the river. You could not fault the welcome and the facilities. The evening meal was perfection, Perigord salad starter a choice of main course and CHEESE. Breakfast was a wonderful selection of cereals, speciality breads fruit and CHEESE. You will not be disappointed.

This hotel is an oasis off the highway. The rooms were spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable. They even had air conditioning- a huge bonus in this heatwave filled summer. The proprietors were extremely welcoming, polite and helpful. They spoke excellent English. The pool was a welcome retreat. The best feature of all however was the dining room. The food was outstanding. Classic French cuisine with a modern twist. The entree we had of tuna tataki was incredible- one of the best entrees we have ever had, if not the best. The breakfast was also generous and relaxed. A great vibe, a great stay.

Booked this on a web site as a stopover on a long two-day drive from England to Spain. It turned out to be a great choice.
Lodeve is a very pretty town just off the main autoroute (le meridien) through the Massif Central. It's an old hotel, currently being renovated, overlooking the river in the centre of town.
Very French and the usual, offbeat provincial establishment. Extremely friendly staff. We booked a premium room and it was a little dark, but spacious and nicely furnished in antique furniture.
We also booked half-board, as we did not want to search for somewhere to eat after a long drive. The food was excellent,as was the wine, and served in the courtyard terrace overlooking the pool, with the swallows wheeling overhead set against a blue sky. Absolutely magical!
Do not book the private parking, though. It's in a tiny garage up a very narrow alley, and it is a wonder anything gets in and out without scratching something. Luckily we were in my wife's Seat Altea. There is no way my Mercedes would even get up the street. There is ample parking in a little public car park across the street on the banks of the river, literally a few yards from the front door.
Highly recommended as a base for sightseeing in the region or as a stopover on a long route to/from Spain.

There is much to like about this hotel which has a very family run feel and things that just don't work.
It is in a convenient location on the edge of the centre of a town that is really worth a visit and a really helpful tourist office that makes a big effort for the tourist (thank you Francoise). Reception was good. There did not appear to be a lift so luggage hauled up to first floor room.
The room doors were very stylish and probably quite expensive solid wood doors. Solid wood doors that when they were closed reverberated like drums. All of them. Along a good length corridor that helped with the resonating of the sound.
The room was large with a pair of stowed bunk beds at one end. The accompanying double was adequate for our needs, but it was a standard double. A small flat screened TV had a wide selection of channels, including some that were subscription only. The storage space was not huge but we coped.
The bathroom was dated and there were some cheap fixes to some of the items that no longer functioned as originally designed such as the plug hole for the bath. The bath had a hand shower unit with a long hose but no where to hang it. There was no razor socket. Toiletries were cheap sachets that were a struggle to get into.
Wifi was present but it did not work as described in the room literature, so was a bit frustrating.
The restaurant area was well appointed with some nice bespoke metal work furnishings (see photo).
At the rear was a pool with sun terrace. The pool was rather small but I am sure would have been nice for a quick dip and cool down if the sun-lounging got a bit hot, but that was not what the weather was like for us.
The killer was the noise. Not just the doors though these were bad enough with the early risers. However, they were not as big an issue as the bells from two local churches that were not in sync. One set then the next a short time later. These go on all night long. With no air con the room was too stuffy not to have the window open, but the bells ensured a disturbance all night long. While this is not something the hotel may able to tackle directly, they could do something about the doors and provide air con which as a 3*/3 chimney Logis I would expect.
Breakfast was a very ordinary buffet at 8€ each which seemed fair.
Overall this is not a place we will be back to as a peaceful nights sleep is a fairly basic requirement.

We are disappointed to see this unfavorable message to us. As you said we are family establishment, and it works for more than 130 years (same family), we strive to develop this family hotel undergoing the time of crises, or other laws .. you must know the current circumstances?!? ! We have all graduated diplomas hotel! with the right training and experience of international trade. Each year we are renovating the place, piece by piece and room by room with air conditioning in particular respect and comfort of our customers following the standards and other safety. Maybe there is something to do about the drums of the doors and we noticed that but about the bells from two local churches we can not do anything About Wifi ( FREE) sometimes it doesn't work and we are always there to help because many people doesn't know how to use it even as described in the room literature For breakfast you said that it was a very ordinary buffet at 8 € Hot drink ;Croissants and french pastries, bread, different jams ,corn flakes,cakes,cheese,ham,2 choices of juices ;and mineral water ,fresh fruits and for you is too expensive ! it will take us a long time but we have goals. The hotel has recently been tested and we are now 3 star Logis de France and internationally for over 20 years. we are still sorry of those sour notes . Best regards Famille ESCUDIE - LECLERC

This was a delightful family run hotel close to the centre of Lodeve. We had a warm welcome on arrival (just what we were looking forward to after a long drive) and were taken to the rooms by the owner.
The room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated.
The restaurant was extremely good; excellent service, a good choice of wine and perfectly prepared food. We were given the option to sit outside by the pool (probably very pleasant in the summer) but the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere.
Apparently there is a small car park at the rear of the hotel but it is difficult to manoeuvre larger cars; otherwise there is a free car park opposite the hotel or space on the road directly outside.
The town is pleasant for a morning stroll, but nothing to keep you there for any longer. It is the perfect place to break up a longer journey through France and I will certainly consider staying again.

We found this hotel after quite a wander around Lodeve, recommended by a greengrocer closing up his shop! Very friendly and helpful service, and a suite with pull-down bed in the living room was provided. We decided to eat in - the courtyard restaurant next to the pool was great, looked like it would be expensive, but excellent food (not for the ravenous as a little "nouvelle") at a surprisingly reasonable price. Car park by the river was great and close to the hotel. Breakfast good value. Room was a little noisy (church bells and loud local family), bt set us up well for the following day. Pretty town, although we had little time to explore it!

After a hard wet day in the saddle, my group of 24 cyclist enjoyed their overnight stay at Hotel de la Paix, Lodeve.
Right from the initial booking the staff were excellent and very friendly. All rooms were very clean and well equip and staff superb. As normal we took half board with evening meal and breakfast, which were exceptional, lots of food for a very hungry set of blokes.
We had great parking for our very expensive bikes, and our team van could park just a few mtrs away. The only let-down but frequent for us in French Hotels, was that there was no bar and in particular, no pressure beer. Hotel is situated in a very nice location along side river.
Lodeve was as dead considering early July... Not one bar or anything open in the whole town - we eventually persuaded a kebab shop to serve us a drink. Hotel great, Sleepy Lodeve lets it down.

Dark, unpretentious and unprepossing hôtel which overlooks an attractive waterfall. Average room and adequate enough breakfast; pleasant and welcoming staff.A town to miss, however....very depressing and moribund Place which probably was much better in times gone by - great shame, the mayor needs a kick?!
