I was road tripping through Spain and staying in mostly budget places but decided to splurge here. And it was worth it. First of all, the prices out of season aren't that hgh. Second, this is a really nice hotel. I don't think it's in the top category of paradores but it had everything I'd want. It's kept the touches of the old convent building while having comfortable functional and nicely decorated rooms. I've seen some complaints that the rooms are small but mine was a palace compared to places I'd been staying. There are nice artworks on the walls of the corridors, and comfortable common areas downstairs. The breakfast was excellent, with an extensive array of fruits, breads, meats, cheeses, etc... The lady at the front desk was full of information about what was going on in the town, which is a very authentic small Spanish town. Note there is no dedicated parking lot, but it was easy to find places. And there's no restaurant - they send you to the other fancier parador in the center of town. I was in town during the very entertaining Christmas market, so I just ate street food for dinner which was a lot of fun.…
Set in the old monastery the rooms still retain the feel of the old building as well as the structure. Friendly welcome. Parking is easy round the side of the hotel. Breakfast is served here but no bar or main meals where you would have to go to the other Parador 400m away. Unusually we had blankets rather than a duvet but the bed was comfortable. Bathroom a bit smaller than many Paradors but this reflects the demands of the building. Not the very best Parador we have visited but definitely in the top half
Parador de Santo Domingo Bernardo de Fresneda was a great choice for us! It was so much fun staying in the old Convento de San Francisco, which never lost its authenticity and appeal. Our room was a bit small but the bathroom was very spacious and well appointed, as in all Paradors we stayed in so far. The location is very quiet, much better than in its more acclaimed sister Parador nearby. Parking is free but you have to find a spot - was never a problem for us. Excellent breakfast with variety of choices for all palates (jamon, tostadas, cheeses, pastries, plenty of fresh fruit, etc.) Highly recommend staying in this Parador for those who have a car. The reception staff is indifferent and not too attentive; especially one pretty aggravating lady who was completely disregarding her customers and kept rudely and loudly interrupting the check in process, which her colleague was trying to complete.…
This is an amazing , beautiful hotel. The furnishings, decor , simply incredible. Day 10 of my Camino and the first hotel or small pension, where we have stayed , where the reception staff where so not interested. Every request they couldn’t even be bothered to stand up. When we paid, the girl literally “ snatched “ the cash from us. And not even a “ thank you” or “ did you enjoy your stay”. Boy, do they need some training in basic customer service. I don’t think they understand, we keep them in a job. The girl in the breakfast room was lovely.
Had a great stay here in September ‘19. Clean, spacious and very comfortable. Good parking around the building and a lovely medieval town centre to explore nearby. Breakfast was extensive, but we just had coffee and toast after a late-night blowout. Great stay.
