Nestled in a stunning, secluded location, Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort & Villas garners acclaim for its breathtaking views and serene atmosphere, enriched by modern comforts and a welcoming design. While the resort's luxurious amenities and spacious, well-appointed rooms are highlights for guests, some visitors mention that additional costs and service inconsistencies slightly mar the experience. Reviews of the service are mixed, with commendations for the attentive staff, yet occasional mentions of disorganization. Cleanliness, on the other hand, is consistently celebrated across the property.

It was our first time staying on the island and this luxury resort.

The remote location of the island and the resort on the island means much less tourist crowd. No bars, no night clubs and no shopping making it perfect for complete relaxation and/or with kids.

We used the resort’s own shared boat transfer from Phuket. The waiting lounge at the Phuket pier and boat transfer were very well organised.

The resort occupies a very large ground with a lot of green spaces and is on a beautiful beach with an amazing view of the limestone cliffs. You can see sunrise when the sky is clear. The resort is very well maintained and clean.

The deluxe sea view room is very large and nicely decorated and set-up, with an outdoor terrace. The amenities are very good and the provision of the pool/beach bag, sarong and hat was a nice touch.

The daily buffet breakfast was very good. The main dishes were ordered from the menu and cooked on order. The selection of fresh fruit juices, smoothies and infused tea was great. The kids’ breakfast corner was a nice idea and popular with kids.

The Thai & Indian buffet was also delicious with many choices. The grilled dishes, especially the seafood and Thai chicken tasted fresh and not dried out.

In terms of facilities, the resort is very kids-friendly. The main beach-front large pool and the kids pool with slides are great but are at different locations. The fitness centre has a well-equipped gym with technogym equipments. There are bicycles that can be borrowed for free to ride around the resort.

There were other outdoor activities such as mountain bikes and kayaking but were at additional cost which was high. This is the reason that this review did not get the full 5-star rating. The majority of guests that stayed there were not active or outdoor like us. We virtually had the main pool and beach to ourselves on the sunny days. The beach was very calm and would have been great for kayaking, and the island seems also great for exploring by bikes. Other 5* luxury resorts in Phuket provide such facilities for free.

Excellent service from all the friendly staff at the resort. A special mention for Thongpoon Siriying (Pia), Director of F&B, for her excellent job on the high quality and choices of the food, and Ms Naiyana and the Pakarang Team, for her nice suggestion of infused tea at breakfast time that we enjoyed very much and for the excellent service.

This is the most beautiful resort in a location you can only dream about. The room we stayed in with the sea view is the best room I ever stayed in. I hesitate to even call it a room it's more like an apartment such as the size , Truly 5 star quality in every sense it even has a motorized curtain rail in the toilet , that is the standard that is set.
The pool is simply stunning with stunning views to the sea they really thought about it. For me and my wife we both agreed it's the best beach we have ever been too just perfect so clean and so calm our little daughter loved it.
Lastly this is all great but what is really outstanding is the staff whereby nothing is too much they are all smiley and very friendly a special mention to Boom the resort manager I can thank him enough for making our stay wonderful.

Review of Anantara Koh Yao Yai

Location: The hotel is situated on Koh Yao Yai, having opened recently during the COVID period.

Travel: From Phuket Airport to the Laem Sai Pier (the hotel’s private pier), the distance is about 13 km, taking around 15 minutes. From the pier to the hotel, the hotel’s speedboat takes 30 minutes.

For this stay, I booked the Deluxe Seaview Suite, which included breakfast and a round-trip land and sea transfer. I arrived at Phuket Airport at 9:30 AM, where a hotel representative greeted me and provided a Mercedes Benz GLA for the transfer, which was extremely comfortable. The car dropped me off at Laem Sai Pier, where the hotel has an Anantara Lounge for guests to relax before boarding the speedboat to the resort.

The hotel’s design is beautiful and different from other Anantara properties, which often feature traditional Thai styles. Here, the design feels more modern. During my stay, occupancy was around 50%, so the hotel didn’t feel crowded.

I arrived early at 11:00 AM, and the hotel kindly offered me early check-in. The front office team was efficient, and the welcome drink was very tasty. My suite was spacious, very clean, and the bathroom was well-designed with separate sections. Basic amenities were fully provided, similar to other Anantara locations. I also received a welcome gift, including fruit, snacks, wine, and a plush toy.

The hotel is compact, making it easy to explore, with several picturesque zones for taking photos. The gym is large and well-equipped, and the spa is beautifully designed, with highly skilled therapists.

For lunch, I dined at the Beach Restaurant. The food was delicious, and the staff provided excellent service, though the prices were on the higher side. Dinner at Tomi Sushi Bar was exceptionally impressive – the food was fresh and of the same quality as an Omakase experience. (The chef mentioned they also offer an Omakase option, but you need to inform them in advance.) The price was comparable to top-tier restaurants in Bangkok, and again, the service was outstanding.

For breakfast, I ate at Pakarang Restaurant. While the variety was limited and the taste was decent, I encountered a few issues, such as soft peanuts and overly sour mangoes (which I informed the staff about).

Overall, Anantara Koh Yao Yai is an excellent choice for a stay on Koh Yao Yai, with its prime location, beautiful rooms, stunning design, and great service.

The resort is located on Koh Yao Yai island which is quite far (35 mins) on uncomfortable speedboat trip to and back from Phuket Laem Sai Pier. The hotel is a mass-luxury style hotel. It was our mistake by booking one of the highest category rooms there (Sea View Penthouse for 50,000 THB a night) and expecting that the quality of everything else in the resort will match the price we paid- when room price average is like 15,000-25,000 THB. If we paid 20,000 THB a night, we would not have complained.

The resort is full of family with small children traveller. Feels like Disneyland of some sort. Kids running around making all sorts of noise. Breakfast is served at two venues, the Pakarang restaurant, which is full of noisy kids, and a more peaceful The Beach restaurant which is for adults only. That was only for breakfast. Lunch and Dinner - kids are everywhere in all restaurants running, jumping, knocking on window glasses etc.

The beach in front of the hotel is nice, and private. But not so peaceful as there were kids running, and fellow adult travellers who sometimes shout. It is also a natural habitat of the ghost crab, which the hotel is trying to preserve them from disturbances. However, but because the location of the Koh Yao Yai island is what we called "inner sea" between Phuket and Krabi - in the Phang Nga bay, the sea water is not so vibrant blue and crystal clear like what you will get from Koh Phi Phi, Koh Racha, or even western coast of Phuket Island which face open Andaman sea.

Other than that, the resort is very new, rooms are nice and clean and modern. Staffs are attentive, full of energy and passion. Food there is quite good on a scale of 8 out of 10, with some dishes better and some worse.

Price for value- not so much, as you have to factor in price of speedboat transfer.

Will I return? Probably it's a no for now, unless I have my own kids.

Review of Anantara Koh Yao Yai, Thailand

Anantara Koh Yao Yai is located in an absolutely stunning paradise with breathtaking views. The setting is extraordinary, and the family rooms are nothing short of sublime.

However, despite the general manager’s admirable efforts and constant presence, the service provided by the hotel staff (over 350 employees) falls far below the standards expected of a property in this price category. The majority of the staff struggle with basic English, making it nearly impossible for them to provide assistance or address even simple guest requests.

For instance, when we arrived at the pool at 9 a.m., not a single staff member was present to hand out towels or help guests settle in. Moreover, there is no lifeguard or water safety service, neither at the main pool nor at the children’s pool with slides—an alarming oversight for a family-friendly hotel.

The New Year’s Eve experience is worth mentioning: a mandatory gala dinner costing €700 per adult and €350 per child. While the event itself is undoubtedly festive, the pricing feels exorbitant and lacks basic inclusions.

Despite its incredible location, the overall service quality does not live up to the standards of a 5-star hotel charging such premium rates. This is a place of natural beauty, but unfortunately, the guest experience leaves much to be desired.

The mysterious island you see from the crab and wanted to get there. Large well-kept area , watch landscapes continuously , everything is green and the eye rests from these views. Rooms are fresh, comfortable, cleaned on time and nice smiley guys. The service at breakfast is well set , not a single issue has arisen . Breakfast is very good.. not too many racks with unnecessary dishes. Everything is delicious and varied.. respect. Dinner is no longer handled )) the first is the stated prices .. all understand the island .. but when the price is like in Maldives., and the quality of dishes is inferior to breakfast , cognitive dissonance occurs)) adds that instead of the stated dish bring a truncated version without half the seafood .. this is the first time in the history of travel )) a mild shock . The reason is banal and for the level of such a hotel is not very suitable . Most of the food is prepared in advance and turned into a buffet on order , so, you have to choose dishes . Thai restaurant as a base is delicious, but if compared with local cafes where the requirements for cooking have not reached. The Japanese restaurant is scarce on the menu, but there is fat tuna sashimi , which is delicious and infrequent. Cool beach crisp, perfect for barefoot jogging, no one is there, expensive. The main problem is no sea ((( ( the color of its river as on the Middle Volga )) the tides achieve the picture and the only thing that confuses the tables to return is the inability to take a mask and swim in pleasure. But Wednesday is calm and peaceful.!!! Expensive transfers to the islands , spa also with the price of Maldives ) 1.5 hours almost $200 .. unexpected for Ty )). Very good with kids , there are slides 🛝. There would be a sea .. anything else wouldn't matter )) and no tennis court (((for such a large area.. strange

The speed boat transfer from Phuket Island was very efficient and quite fun. It took about 30 minutes. I stayed in a beachfront villa which has a huge garden and private pool. The jacuzzi bath in the bathroom is enormous but not very practical, Indeed, if you are in it in the evening, it is visible to your neighbours through the hedge. I know this because walking down to the beach I could see into the neighbouring villas bathrooms! You have three showers, one in the bathroom, one by the back door and one next door to the pool. To the outdoor shower however it is very difficult to get into it from the pool. Badly designed.
Beautiful beach, essentially it is private because it is a long way to any neighbouring properties. Clean and gentle slope. So good for swimming and for children. Most people however stay by the large swimming pool.
Be aware that some of the rooms in the main blocks can be very close to facilities and not have much privacy. So I would advise to check which room you will be in and where it is located before you arrive. The view from most rooms and the beach is stunning, with beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Staff very friendly and helpful, although lacking perhaps in some polish. At the time of my stay there was F&B Director and in the early days of this resort the F&B certainly needed direction and input. When I arrived they had no vegetarian food at all and I had to have a number of discussions with the very kind staff who then arranged with the chefs to write a small vegetarian menu and to offer some vegetarian items at breakfast, which I really appreciated. If you are staying for more than a few days however the F& B could get a little boring. There is nowhere else to go of course so you will need to eat everything in the resort.
Extremely relaxing, the villas are absolutely gorgeous and possibly bigger than our whole apartment back home!

We love Koh Yao Yai and usually book into the Santhiya , we saw this new hotel had opened so we thought we would treat ourselves and give it a try .
This is our 50th hotel stay in Thailand and have favourites such as Pimalai and cape Kudo so this hotel at its price range had a lot to live up to.
Check in was smooth and professional our room was ready at check in time 3pm
We stayed in 2 rooms , 1st a Deluxe sea view
This room is very modern, very luxurious, big comfortable beds , fabulous views lots of little extras like bath salts and hats , big comfortable sofas , big modern TV and sound systems .
2nd room , penthouse suite, absolutely luxurious on 2 floors with your private pool on the top with views exceptional , big 2 people jacuzzi again with views .
The resort its self is big ,exceptionally well maintained with 2 pools , one for kids with slides and another by the beach .
I would note this resort currently is extremely popular with families with small children and currently there is no adult only pool area so I would suggest booking your own villa if u prefer absolute peace and quiet .
We had a couple of issues with our stay and these issues were handled extremely professionally by resort guest relations manager Mint .
Breakfast was good everything u needed and fabulous coffee .(fresh pineapple would be a good addition)
Staff not quite there yet with the extra personal service of this luxury resort but again this is a new resort and I am sure the training will improve them in time.
The Gym is excellent very modern equipment.
Big shoutout to the team on the security gate always very smiley and welcoming. This hotel is definitely worth a stay but bear in mind still finding its way so if you have any issues at all be sure to contact management, I believe this is always better than not contacting a putting negative reviews after , your be surprised how your issues can be resolved 😉
Anyhow we had a wonderful stay and Thankyou very much for all your help

It is a paradise for travelers.

The hotel site is absolutely stunning. An unbelievable beauty of trees, plants, flowers and the hotel facilities. Perfectly arranged and elegant. This is a place where you can find tranquility and set your body on recovery mode.

The gardens as well as the spacious rooms are very clean.

Breakfast is perfect - rounded up by the friendly and courteous staff.

The beach is very clean as well. Always fresh towels for pool and beach available.

There is mosquito spray, After Sun Cream, Beach Flip Flops, Beach Pareo, Beach Bag and a Sun Hat in the well equipped room as well as a big fridge with freezer.

The hotel’s Spa is very elegant but also very pricy. In my opinion to pricy. A 90 minute massage is around 165 Euro.

There are three restaurants for dinner. Thai, Western Food and Japanese.

The food in the hotels Thai restaurant was good but pricy so we decided to go out and eat out in the evening. We haven’t been disappointed by the friendly restaurants in the near.

There are some restaurants in walking or scooter distance.

You can rent scooters und front of the hotel which is an easy way to discover the island. The traffic is very moderate.

Koh Yao Yai is a fantastic place with very friendly people. We saw a lot of smile and laughed a lot even not speaking Thai.

The beauty of nature on Koh Yao Yai is incredible. But we felt sorry and likewise guilty as we saw all the plastic rubbish on the island. It is a big problem…

We all in all recommend this hotel very much for families and couples. We have been so in love with this place that we directly extended our stay.

We have just spent 5 nights at this beautiful hotel and it was sheer bliss!

We stayed in a Deluxe Sea View Suite which was beautifully designed and decorated, immaculately cleaned every day and the bed and pillows were really comfortable.

The food in both restaurants is very good and the service is excellent - nothing is too much trouble!

Great pool area and bar and the beach is meticulously cleaned with fabulous views.
The island is beautiful, we hired scooters and discovered the island, we found deserted beaches, lovely countryside and great food.

We just loved the tranquility of Koh Yao Yai, it’s the most wonderful place to chill out.

Special thanks to Khun Boom for making sure that our stay was absolutely fantastic! We felt so cared for, valued and appreciated as guests - it truly was an incredible customer experience! Thank you 🙏🏻
