Detailed Reviews
We stayed for four days , it is a very quite area, so hire scooters if you want to get about.
We had a couple of issues to do with lights in the hut, but the staff rectified straight away.
Our bed was so comfortable , & enjoyed the jacuzzi bath & big shower.
The pool was lovely, and the views over looking the sea fantastic.
Couldn't fault the staff they were so friendly & welcoming.
The food was also lovely & a good variety to choose from.
We enjoyed happy hour 5pm till 6pm , relaxing with a cold chang by the sea.
If you want to relax , I would definently recommend this place

This is a very quiet and peaceful place. The only real downside is that you cant swim in the ocean from the resort.
Restaurant and is good and the room are clean and tidy (VERY large bathroom). in all this is a good value for money place.

We liked the hotel until after 4 nights and sooo many bite marks we realized our room has bed bugs!! Super annoying. Now we unfortunately brought them home and had to order pest control.
After 4 nights we informed the staff of our find. Only a ”So Sorry” - no discount etc.
Such a shame. Otherwise the hotel and the island are peacefull and lovely.

Had a amazing 3 days 2 nights at the hotel. The hotel manager Onn was waiting for us at the pier. It takes 15 mins from the pier to the hotel. The locals doesn't speak English well so I'll recommend to arrange for hotel to pick you up instead of flagging a taxi when you arrive. Taxis on the island has no marking to being with!
Upon arrival, the hotel sign is well decorated and the reception is also the restaurant. Checking in was a breeze and they don't require a credit card like other hotels do.
Rooms are either small bungalow with or without a Jacuzzi. My room has a Jacuzzi that fits for two adults. Room is spacious and choice of mattress and pillows are AMAZING.
Each room has a OPEN air shower and hot shower is available. The swimming pool is of a medium size and it is located right in front of the rooms with panaromic sea view. There is jacuzzi on the pool as well.
There is also free WiFi throughout the hotel and LCD TV with 200++ channels in the room.
There are not many restaurants on the island so food is limited to those catered by the hotels. Prices are on par with prices along Patong beach from 100 Baht onward per dish. Beer is available at 60 Baht per bottle.
Adventurous travelers can rent a bike for 350 Baht per day or 200 Baht for half a day. The island is about 25km from north to south.
There are a whole LOT of mosquitoes and bugs on the island. The hotel provides insect repellent in the room. Remember to apply them generously before going out in the evening.
Other charges not related to the room will be 200 Baht per pax for a speed boat trip from Bang Rong Pier and 200 Baht for 2 pax transfer from pier to the hotel and vice versa.

We spent four nights at the Betterview on Koh Yao Yai, before traveling across to Koh Yao Noi. Betterview is great value, "On" the Manager is great and will organise anything that you require, the staff can't do enough for you. The bungalows are lovely Thai style. Great bed and pillows. The resort only opened in December so everything is pristine. We picked Betterview after driving around the island looking at a few options because of the lovely lush gardens, good price and also the fact it was new. We hired a motor bike for the whole time which we did through the hotel at a very reasonable price. Dining options on the island are fairly limited we actually ate in every night. One night we ordered a whole fish and crabs they were so yummy especially after we explained we would like the crab cleaned... Breakfast is fairly bland but this may also be because the hotel is quite new. Rooms cleaned to a high standard everyday. Pool area is beautifully maintained. If you want a spa, activity centre etc this isn't the place for you but if you want a lovely bungalow on a remote island it is.

Teetering on the edge of luxury, although not quite there...yet, Better View is the truthful name given to this pretty Thai hideaway. Having only five residences means the resort is tranquil, quiet and private. The bungalows are gorgeous rattan and wood on the outside and chic, air-conditioned elegance inside. A jacuzzi bath and stylish decor feature in the spacious bathroom. The pristinely maintained infinity pool, with a large shallow area suitable for young children, adds a focal point to the well-maintained gardens. Beware sea-swimmers and beach-combers – the shell-covered rocks beyond the sea wall are sharp underfoot. On the menu are some classic Thai dishes, with modifications for vegetarians if you ask. Breakfast is less competent with the set menu revealing a move towards the Western, with still a few miles to go. Coffee snobs will be disappointed with Nescafe in their coffee pots. This can be excused, however, when you meet the wonderfully moustachioed chef, who (I'm convinced) even has the Gallic shrug...

I'm writing this looking at the stunning vista from the Better View restaurant, and it really is stunning. A panoramic view over the sea and the Hong Islands, with the waves gently lapping. Perfect.
The accommodation at Better View is excellent, 12 huts overlooking the sea... We are told it will stay at 12 as well, which means this feels like your own, and somewhere that only the privileged few get to stay. The price is really reasonable given what you get for it.... Our hut had an outside shower, jacuzzi bath and terrace and this unparalleled view.
I am really struggling to find any fault at all. The hosts were friendly and helpful, particularly when our scooter got a flat and they came to rescue us from elsewhere on the island!!! The food was excellent, and reasonably priced, with a lot of choice.
Koh Yao Yai is, as yet, unspoilt by mass tourism and in my opinion, is the better for it, but this might not be for everyone. There are no main stream shops, few restaurants and not too much to do apart from scoot around the island, walk along the deserted beaches and get to know this slice of paradise....

A dream!
Comfortable, luxury, really quiet resort.
It's brand new so everything looks very nice.
There are only 5 bungalows but there were planning to build another 5 bungalows.
We've stayed at the tropical and sea view cottage and it looks just like the pictures they present on there website.
The cleaning was really good and the staff was really helpful.
You get fresh water bottles every day.
On every window you have mosquitoscreens.
There is a sofa bed in the room were even an adult could sleep on.
We found the tropical bungalow more practical and more beautiful then the seaview room. The seaview room is typical for wedding couples.
The only difference between the cottages is that the seaview has an outdoor shower.
The pool is split up with undeap area and bubble baths.
The food was really good, the best dishes we have eaten on our vacation!
And it wasn't expensive, a singha for 65 bath and dishes between 150-200 bath.
For breakfast you could choose between a lot of stuff but no thai dishes. There were pancakes, cereals, toast, eggs,...
The resort is next to the Thiwson Resort.
You don't have anything else in the neighborhood.
If you want to relax and do nothing, this is the place to go!
I never go back to the same place but if I can in the future, I definitely will come back!
We've stayed for 1 week with a 4 year old and it was perfect, our most relaxing place on our trip.

Also, rent scooters and just get lost on the island!! We did that and it was our favorite thing we did! Everywhere in the town has massage parlors that are very inexpensive-massages are a must!!
I think the easiest way for foreigner is by Taxi and tell the
To go Bang Rong Pier to Chong Lard Pier (first stop) in Koh Yao Yai in approximately 30 minutes by speed boat or in approximately 50 minutes by long tail boat.
Fare for speed boat per passenger is at THB 200, and for long tail boat at THB 120 per passenger.
After arrived, around the pier also have taxi or maybe u can tell resort to pickup:)
Enjoy your holiday.

St Margaret's at Cliffe, United Kingdom385 contributions71 helpful votesIf we want a detached bungalow, which accommodation should we book? The panoramic seaview bungalow?
Also are there any nearby bars for dirks in the evening? Or is it really only at the hotel?
what time does drinks service end at the hotel?
Thank you, Simon
I meant drinks, not dirks!
