Run by Yamalia local bussines woman who immigrated to South Tyrol, returning to open her own business, speaks English, German and Italian. The hotel is situated south of Koh Yao Yai 50m from Loh Pared beach. We have the option to take the ferry lasting 2 hours for 200 baht from Loh Pared Pier to Jian Wanich Pier in Phuket, book taxi before, there are no taxis at this pier. The cheapest and most rewarding trip for me, enjoy the fishing world of Jian Wanich harbour is anything but amazing because it's hundreds of super colourful boats pile up to each other, mixed with frenzy of hundreds of fishermen, makes the atmosphere magical. On the boat we can move to all sectors, even benefit from the hammock if it is free, enjoy the fantastic islands around Phuket in a calm trip without tourists, because most tourists use the speed Boat for their trips.
The first super clean hotel of our stay, 700 baht for a spacious room with private bathroom, toiletries, balcony, facing nature of banana, bamboo and other trees. Very quiet location 50m from the beach. Absolute cleanliness in all sectors of the hotel, supermarket, restaurant. Delicious food, best salads I ate in my stay, manager successfully plants European salads and herbs in front of the restaurant. This is a comment for the positive in Thailand in the hotel world, because currently in Thailand even paying dearly in some resorts we were shocked with the cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms, extra of what is observed throughout the country that is, plastic everywhere, rubbish, bins, poop burning mixed with plastic that make pessimously bad for health and environment, smell of cesspool and sewage is what we currently have as a gift of Thailand.
I will miss the cat TU a lot, which means noisy, like his owner.
I highly recommend this hotel.

Koh Yao Yai reminds me of Boipeba in Bahia, Brazil. The island is completely unspoiled. I arrived by boat from Thalen Bay, Krabi. What a fabulous trip. The scenery is spectacular. The cost: 120 baht!

I stayed with Yamalia at Heimat Gardens. She has 5 large rooms, with another four to be completed shortly. The room was spotlessly clean, had air con and a ceiling fan, a large balcony, a fridge, a TV (of no interest to me), and an en-suite shower-room. Her restaurant is in a separate building next door. Internet coverage on the island is patchy but I connected my Mac by activating the hotspot on my iPhone.

I adored my stay. I paid 800 baht per night including the most wonderful fruit platter I have ever eaten for breakfast. I had pineapple, yamlai, water melon, dragon fruit, mango, papaya, rambutan and mangosteen Yamalia's cooking is wonderful: for my three dinners I had massaman curry, squid with garlic, and coconut ginger soup with chicken. Many of the ingredients are sourced locally. Yamalia took me to her own vegetable garden where she has baby eggplants, pineapple, chilies, various greens, ducks, chickens... The ginger for my coconut soup came straight from the garden beside the restaurant. If you like good food, Heimat Gardens is for you.

The island is incredibly green and full of rubber trees. The trees in front of my room were in full production which was fun to see. The landscape is a bit like Bali as there are vivid green rice paddies. The beach at Lo Pared is beautiful. It's the only beach where you can swim at low and high tide. I hardly saw a soul on the beach: heaven :-).

Koh Yao Yai is for people who want to enjoy nature, swim, walk, think, sleep in a hammock ... If you are looking for parties, go elsewhere. The island is 99% muslim, so there are no bars. The people are extremely friendly. I loved it.

Thanks Yamalia for a lovely stay.

A friend and I read the reviews of Heimat and stayed as it sounded like just what we needed - peace and quiet and no large touristy resorts.
Indeed that is what we got at Heimat, plus more! The guesthouse is located off a delightful road that leads down to the beach. No loud music, no late-night bars, no shops, no sunburnt tourists, no sleazy backstreets and beautiful nature. Yai is the perfect place to unwind for a few days - lovely local community, no crime, deserted beach, picturepostcard woodland - and Heimat provides the best food, hospitality and value for money. It is also incredibly clean - Yamalia works hard and delivers an immaculate service : crisp ironed sheets, plenty of towels for beach and bath, large rooms and air con that would put many 5* hotels to shame.
Food was also delicious - the green papaya salad is a must! Service was friendly and the staff delightful.
Sadly we wandered off one of the days and made the mistake of eating at the touristy looking hotel on the beach. Horrid food (tasted like it was cooked in ketchup and our of a tin), rubbish service and unpleasant looking bungalows. We went running back to Heimat in relief that we were staying there!
Thank you Yamalia for a great stay - I hope your business continues to flourish.

I went to Koh Yao Yai on a break from Koh Phi Phi, and ended up staying 8 months!
It is an amazing island, and made even better by the hospitality Yamalia offers.
She is happy to show people 'her' island, from rice fields to rubber plantations she will guide you through the local culture and traditions.
A definitely welcome break from the hustle of Phuket or Krabi.
Heimat Gardens is only 5 mins from the beach, which actually helps separate your beach time (sandy) from your relaxation time (not sandy).
The restaurant is fantastic, with fresh everything. In my time there I never tired of the variety of food.
Yamalia is a great host, and she seems happy enough joking in English, German or Thai.

We didn't stay at Heimat Gardens, but we did eat twice in their restaurant which was absolutely outstanding.

My wife and I love Thai food. We did 2 cooking courses while on our honeymoon in Thailand (sadly not here, although we did enquire) and we ate amazing Thai food everywhere we went, from street food to more upmarket places and were never disappointed. I genuinely believe it's hard to find bad Thai food, because in general, it's fairly simple to cook and is all about the fresh ingredients, so I know it's a tall order to claim that one particular restaurant cooks the best food that we experienced in Thailand, but in my opinion Heimat Gardens Restaurant genuinely did.

The flavours were so fresh and zingy it was as if the papayas had just been plucked off the tree to make the salad, and the Thai basil, limes and all the other herbs, pulled straight from the garden. This was because they had. The owner, on top of the little hotel and her restaurant, also has an organic farm where almost all the produce for the menu is sourced. On top of this, the owner is also the chef, and her passion for food is clear when you take your first bite. Nowhere else had the food tasted so remarkably fresh, the flavours complimenting one another so perfectly. Quite simply, the most delicious Thai food I ate and I look forward to going back to eat there again sometime soon.

I do strongly recommend Heimats Gardens if you are looking for warmth welcomed, tasty food and lots of peace and relax time. We have been so happy in this little paradise. The rooms are spotless; the beach is like a private place, the people are always smiling and ready to help you. We wish we could stay longer as the host Yamalia is a wonderful lady, hard worker and always with a smile on her face. Her staff is friendly and there are no words to describe the beauty that comes out of this magic place.
Yamalia, thank you again for making this holidays so unforgettable. You are the one who makes this place so special. Hope to see you soon.

We stayed here for 3 nights and wish we had stayed longer!Yomalia is the perfect host, nothing is too much trouble-she even got up early on our last day to make us breakfast and took us to the pier to catch the 730am boat. The rooms are one one of the cleanest we have ever stayed in, nice and spacious. What can i say about the food?-fantastic,traditional thai dishes and everything is fresh, yomalia asked her father to catch crab for my wifes meal the following day. :-) If you want pubs, clubs, restaurants then dont come here,if you want peace, empty beaches, and a real taste of thailand then come here, all the people we met whilst travelling on a moped were so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them(not that we ask for much i add).
Would we go back?-definately,a holiday memory i will never forget. Thanks Yomalia!! :-)

Just a short walk from loh pared beach and the santhiya resort this restaurant is a must. The food is superb, very fresh, clean and bursting with flavour. We, a family of four, all loved it. The service was very friendly and helpful. They made all our dishes vegetarian, red curry, green curry, fried rice....all delicious.
It is a fraction of the cost of santhiya and the food was more authentic.

We just stayed here for three nights. They are a 5 min walk away from a nice big beach, and the small cluster of rooms are set away from the road and shaded by trees. The rooms were extremely clean with good showers and kind of resembled business hotels from the 90s (this is a compliment!)

It's a good price for the standard, the staff and genuinely friendly & helpful and the restaurant is does authentic southern Thai food and is also suited to European tastes. It seems that most guests are older but anyone can have a good time here. If you're backpacking and want a few days of high standards off the scene without breaking the bank, this might be a good bet.

Koh Yao Yai is NOTHING like Phuket, or even the tourist islands of say Koh Lanta or Phi Phi. We didn't see many tourists as we explored by moped, but the people were so welcoming and nice, and we ate good food and did some exploring (canoeing in the Mangrove with Activities Resort)

Next to Heimat and down by the beach, there is some relatively major development of resorts going on. We weren't disturbed by any building noise at all, but if you want to sleep in till 11 maybe bring earplugs. The staff at Heimat sounded a bit concerned that this would change their area, and I think it will, but their hotel will remain popular because it is good.

If you want cocktails at sunset and an island paradise holiday, maybe Heimat is not right, but we just walked 5 mins and got a drink down at the palm-roofed resort near the pier for our evening photos!

Yamalia runs a really neat, clean little modern guesthouse with 5 spacious rooms close to Lo Paret beach on Yao Yai. Longtail excursions organized, scooters for rent, Great food in the little restaurant. Nothing more needed for a great beach holiday chilling out on a quiet rural island. No jetskis no disco, no crowds, no noise. Heaven. Thank you Yamalia.

"My apologies - we didn't stay here, and I tried to unclick my ratings with respect to rooms above, but trip advisor doesn't seen to let you do that. That said, we did look at a room when deciding where to stay on the Island, and they were very clean, comfortable and amazing value, we were simply looking for something a little more honeymoony!"
