Ferndale is more than a bed and breakfast, the experience is more like a small boutique hotel. Impeccably clean & comfy room. Our hosts John and Alex made sure we knew what we needed to know about our stay. Fresh milk as part of tea and coffee making facilities with a delicious bar of chocolate thrown in for each of us on arrival. We didn’t need to ask for anything extra as it had all been thought of but if we did need something they made it obvious we could just ask and if it was possible they’d make it happen. At first the breakfast menu was intimidating with so many options but you come to realise that yet again this is J&A making sure their guests can have the best possible stay. John is a food historian and creates dishes from every corner of the globe to match the different room styles at Ferndale. Both my wife and I are vegetarian and it was very easy to eat a hearty breakfast. We had the fry without the meat and it was delicious and plenty. On our last day I got adventurous and chose the shakshouka which was equally delicious if you like a spicy breakfast. The best thing about breakfast other than the food is the view. You sit transfixed by Keel Bay. Spotting surfers in the distance is so zen and relaxing I could have sat their for hours. Visiting at Achill after peak season means less is open on the island but having hosts like J&A meant we got advice about where to go and what to do. They managed the perfect balance for us of providing all the info and great service without being anyway intrusive. We highly recommend Ferndale Luxury B&B.

We chose Ferndale for it's beautiful location and the fact that it is a bit different. We booked a two night stay 24/25th September in the Laguna Veneta suite. We had picked this room for it's decor and for the most fantastic view of the sea and lake and we were not dissapointed. Our hosts Alex and Jon were friendly, couteous and helpful and provided us with useful information with our onward journey along the Wild Atlantic Way. The room was beautifully furnished and extremely clean and had good amenities in the room and bathroom. The bed was also very comfortable with lovely crisp bed linen. The food we had at breakfast was beautifully presented, cooked to order and delicious .We had extremely good portions of home made Swiss muesli and ommelette together with home made bread and savoury scones which were amazing . Being a bit of a coffee snob I was so pleased that the coffee blend used here is excellent. Again the dining area overlooking the sea was extremely clean as was every part of the premises we visited. Can't praise it highly enough and we would highly recommend a stay here. Thank you Alex and Jon

Ferndale luxury B&B is a must stay if you are visiting Achill Island. Jon & Alex always go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Simply superb b&b with the most pleasant hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for Jon and Alex. Perfectly situated to explore the island and within a short 5 minute walk to local bars and restaurant. We stayed in the themed Chinese room for 2 nights and it's beautiful and clean. There is a vast breakfast menu and you can dine in for dinner too if you wish. Thank you again to Jon and Alex for making our stay a very enjoyable one.

Jon and Alex were excellent hosts, making us feel welcome from the time we arrived, until we departed 4 days later. They are friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. The room was great with everything we need being replenished by our hosts. Breakfast is an occasion and a chance to speak with other guests, all of whom spoke highly of this accommodation, and an opportunity to enjoy some fantastic fare. The French omelettes are recommended and the best I have ever tasted. Jon and Alex were able to satisfy the culinary tasters of my wife which is a feat in itself. Thanks both for looking after us so we'll, and we look forward to a further visit soon. Mike & Maureen.

John and Alex were excellent hosts! Very funny with a great sense of humor!! They spent time to get to know us. They asked questions about our trip and things we were interested in seeing and gave us a number of tips that we took advantage of! The B&B sits up on a hill with spectacular views. It was the only blue painted house I saw on the island, very tastefully done. We stayed in the Chinese themed room which was beautiful and spacious! John took time to explain how everything worked. The rainfall shower was very nice!! There were multiple rooms in the main home for all guests to read, play music, watch a movie and sit and relax. The garden and grounds were very beautiful!! We arrived late and John made reservations at Amethyst Pub for dinner. This was a great experience as well. Bed was very comfortable! The breakfast menu was extensive with many different ethnic choices, it was hard to decide with all the choices. Portions were generous and it was hard to eat everything on the plate. The Greek breakfast was very good! Heidi’s porridge with muesli and honey and the French toast were also very good. Unfortunately we were only able to stay one night. The owners really went the extra mile to make this a wonderful place to visit!!! This is a B&B that should be stayed at multiple days to enjoy all of the amenities and take time to relax!!! Went for a run and there are lots of places to run and enjoy the views!!

Absoutely perfect. This themed boutique could have not suited us better. From the showers to the bed linen to the chocolates. The owners were so warm and very welcoming. Dinner was the best we have had since we arrived in Ireland. This is a place you book to stay a few days and relax. Thank you Jon and Alex 10 /10 ☆☆☆

We cannot say enough about the wonderful experience my husband and I had at Ferndale. The themed room was impeccably appointed with a very comfortable bed, and the view from our room was beyond stunning. Every breakfast we had was ample and delicious. Additionally, we had dinner one evening at Ferndale that was expertly prepared and served by the proprietors, Jon and Alex. It was a lovely alternative to going into town, and the fresh halibut, scallops and prawns that Jon cooked for us was one of the best meals we had ever had in Ireland, not to mention the fabulous chocolate mousse and deconstructed Bailey's Irish Cream cheesecake he made us for dessert! Last, but certainly not least, Jon and Alex were absolutely the best hosts! They managed to make us feel like family, yet pampered guests at the same time-No easy feat! Their attention to detail in terms of our comfort, and their wit and warmth were a winning combination. We will most definitely be returning!
