We spent seven nights at the Villa I’ll Sasso. The property is first rate, our room was superb and the service generally good. We used it as a base to visit the Tuscan towns and villages. The Villa does not have any in house dinner options. After a day out it is sometimes nice not to have to go driving again. There were also no restaurants or general amenities within walking distance.

It is not so easy to find but once you are there it was worth searching it. Only a few rooms but all very nicelly decorated. The welcome is warm and friendly. THey do all they can to optimize your stay.
You must have a car as you are away from everything, but the country side around is just beaytiful with a lot to discover in a radius of 30km.
You must also know that they don't have a restaurant just small snacks.

We didn’t enjoy our stay here as much as we’d hoped.

The pictures are quite deceiving as you’re very close to quite an industrial part of Tuscany. I wouldn’t call it a hotel either. This is a very grand B&B/guest house. So grand in fact the interior design was very confusing. French, British, Chinese, bit of Italian…

We had to order our lunch at breakfast and ate the same thing every day as no alternatives were offered. I don’t know at 10am what I want to eat at 1.30pm.

This was a 3 night stay to relax, stay put and not do much at all however during our stay we had to ask for everything. When by the pool we would have to go and find someone to ask for a drink.

There were occasions when we asked for nibbles to go with some drinks but again it was the whole having to go and find someone every time (to note we weren’t charged for the nibbles).
No offer of water, tea or coffee during the day when by the pool. We felt a bit of an inconvenience.

We drove out for dinner twice to some lovely places but being honest; we’re on holiday and didn’t want to have to drive. Certainly don’t want to get a bus either! Didn’t want to ask for a taxi as it seemed it might be too much effort for whoever was covering reception that night.

I’m still quite perplexed as to why I’m not able to be really positive about such a beautiful establishment. Maybe we should have researched the area a bit more but on reflection we will never book a hotel (which this isn’t) without a restaurant again.

Good points: Room stunning, biggest bathroom.. (but you look out to the traffic).

Bad points: Points above, location outside the main gates. You can’t go for romantic strolls. Pool and Jacuzzi were freezing but we just got involved (had to ask for pool towels too!). Family run, need to be more attentive to their guests. Twin beds pushed together for a double - why?!

Shame.

Dear Guests, First thing we would like to thank you again to have chose our Historical Place for your Stay. We are very disappointed for all observations as you have described in your comment but we would like to give you best answers because many things that you wrote do not reflect the reality of our Place. 1- You write” The pictures are quite deceiving as you’re very close to quite an industrial part of Tuscany” that is not true we are on the top of the hill with view on Village and others many hills then our Place is an family Historical Place with just 7 rooms 2- About the lunch we don’t have a restaurant inside (this is written in all the descriptions of the Relais) so for this reason we need to know in advance if the guests would like to have something for lunch so we can guarantee you fresh food every day. For dinner you need to go out (we have recommended you many good restaurants very close to our Relais) 3- We don’t understand why you complain to ask for things (towels, aperitv, snack) we are here for our guest so if you need something you must ask at the reception and we try to do the best for you (sorry but we don’t have waiters around the Villa like a 5 stars Hotel). 4- About the problem with pool and Jacuzzi, you have visit us on the 15th of September so the temperature outside in the night is not like July or August so the pool will be not warm (our pool is without heating). For Jacuzzi there is a button to heat the water (35 C degrees) but you didn’t ask to turn on . To conclude we would like to know during your stay all these comments that you wrote on your review because you didn’t tell us anything when you was here. However we are so sorry that your stay in our historical place did not measure up to your expectations

We spent a week here in July 2019.

The property is a beautiful old stone building, very typical of the area. It’s been tastefully restored, with a clever mix of traditional style and modern touches.
We found the place fairly easily with GPS (it’s certainly off the beaten track) and were greeted very warmly by Francesca.
Indeed, she turned out to be the star of the show, as she was there for most of our stay, and was super-lovely and always very helpful with information and recommendations.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Breakfast buffet, although fairly modest in the selection of items, was delicious, and plentiful.
We enjoyed a few of the house cocktails in the evenings.

Despite having read the info and reviews, I had still failed to grasp that there is no restaurant at this property. Breakfast is cooked fresh in the morning, and as I understand it, guests can pre-order light lunches (such as sandwiches), but there is no food available in the evenings. Not a problem, but just something we’d failed to consider when arriving quite late on our first day and not being able to dine in.

A great location for touring the Tuscan countryside. A short drive of about 20 minutes into central Florence, and then easy drives of no more than about 90 minutes to other delights such as Lucca, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa, etc. The property offers a delightfully relaxing and peaceful getaway, but all within such easy reach of so much.

A very enjoyable stay. Comfortable, and with great customer service. We particularly liked the “WhatsApp us for assistance” attitude. It works! Even just for asking for the music round the pool to be turned down a bit!!

Highly recommended. Thank you.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights and had a wonderful time. As many mention this is a small hotel with only 7 suites, but they are of a very high standard, good space and comfortable. The private grounds are maintained to a very high standard and are kept very clean at all times.

The thing that makes this place "special" is the incredibly good service provided by Emiliano and his wonderful wife with so many ideas on where, when and how to get the best experience from your visit.

This is a great location for Florence (take the bus!!), Sienna, Chianti etc with most of the usual Tuscan must sees being easy to reach, and you can access good quality restaurants fairly locally (but all by car). My only negative about the place would be the noise, which I wasnt expecting and hadnt seen mentioned in other reviews. I was expecting a charming hotel set in the quiet hills of Tuscany - I got the charming hotel but their is a noticeable hum from the autostrada at the bottom of the hill, and their is a nearby hospital where you get the usual road and air ambulance noise. This was a bot of a shock at first and it made me think about moving on, but the service and quality of the hotel makes up for it and I am very glad we stayed on.

This beautiful historic property is conveniently close to Florence (10 to 20 minutes drive), 45 minutes to Sienna or 1 hour to Pisa.
Nicely decorated room, very confortable bed, professional and dedicated staff.
Emigliano, the manager is a great host who has extensive knowledge of the whole region, the culture and it’s gastronomy: in ten minutes he laid out a programme which kept us busy for six days! Thank you!
Villa il Sasso is not a full service resort where you lay at the pool and wait for servers to bring cocktails but you get about everything upon request from the reception.

I have just had the pleasure of staying with my wife and friends in this fabulous villa close to Florence. From the minute we arrived, right up until we departed, we couldnt fault a thing. The owner and manager took so much pride in ensuring that everything was perfect for us and nothing whatsoever was too much trouble for him.
The villa was a delight. A period property in beautiful surroundings and modernised to an exeptional level, whilst still maintaining its full character and charm.
I understand the property has been in family ownership for many years and its great to see its been put to such excellent use for its many privileged visitors.
Thank you once again for everything Emiliano and we will certainly be back

My husband and I got married in Florence in 2011 and we stayed at this fabulous hotel. I was just browsing trip advisor and really thought it was time to comment.
The hotel and grounds are stunning and Emiliano and his lovely wife were extremely attentive. On the wedding day, I had a wedding planner, hairdresser, manicurist, bridesmaid, photographer and family members descend on the hotel and we were all treated like royalty by the owners. Nothing was ever too much trouble. They were a joy to have around at such a nervous time. There were quite a few of us for lunch which we pre-ordered and it was all impeccable. When we returned to our room that evening, they had tidied up all the mess from the chaos and had a bottle of champagne waiting on ice!
The grounds itself are immaculate and situated only 10 minutes drive from the city centre. There are some fabulous restaurants locally too which were all recommended by Emiliano.
It saddens me to think that a previous poster was so disappointed with this place. The website clearly outlines the type of place that it is. It is extremely tranquil, and waiters etc. would only detract from this beauty. I've been all over the world and this remains my favourite place by far. My cousin (bridesmaid) returned the following year to stay in the same hotel!
Five star!!

It took me a month to submit my review but its about time :)
This is a gorgeous place! A beautiful villa (pictures don't do justice), clean as a whistle and this is not easy with all the small details everywhere. Smell was always sooooo good. We stayed at suite Ciampolini which is huge and beautiful (I think one of the most beautiful I have ever stayed in) with direct access to the pool, hot tub and garden area, a really magical area with exquisite views.
I enjoyed some great cocktails there.
The only room for improvement was Breakfast. it was always fresh with tasty products but variety could be improved and it was somewhat repetitive.
All in all I think this one of the most value for money places in Tuscany and it really made our trip.
