I am a REALLY surprised by all the super-positive reviews here on TA. We visited Villa Palagina a few weeks ago and to be honest... I was quite dissappointed. Especially since I expected something great based on the reviews here!

Hi, Hubbie and I met at the nearby campsite owned also by family over 10 yrs ago and married in figline so in good position to advise. We went back last year and going again in August. La palagina is stunning, we rent a car and it's just over an hour to get there. You can park in figline 10 mins away and get trains to Florence (my fave), arrezo and even Rome if you fancy a trek. You can also book on organised trips from the campsite I believe.
As for restaurants, there are a few in figline. Case grande where we got married is a lovely setting - you eat in the courtyard. The campsite has several restaurants too and is 5 mins away - many locals eat there but it does get busy, they also have a pizza takeaway. The restaurant at la palagina is good too. You can get a taxi to and from restaurants in figline, just ask the hotel and then the restaurant to book for you.
You will probably find you eat a lot during the day though as if you visit Siena etc you can resist. Another amazing place to visit in car although it takes a couple of hours is volterra.
My friend is a wedding planner in figline and has contacts at local hotels so if you want to plan anything special I may be able to help. Any other questions let me know.
