Take an enchanting boat ride through Vembanad Lake to reach Coconut Lagoon, a backwater destination that is nestled amidst canals, paddy fields and lush natural life. Reflecting Kuttanad’s vibrant culture, this resort has old Kerala homes constructed in the centuries-old ‘tharavadu’ style, transplanted from the past and preserved to perfection. The lake is home to a plethora of natural life, with rare species of plants, butterflies, birds and sea creatures, which can all be discovered from Coconut Lagoon with the help of the resident naturalists. The property contains three restaurants – Vembanad Grill, where you can savour the fresh catch of the day, open-air dining at Aymanam Restaurant and multi-cuisine delicacies at the traditionally constructed Ettukettu restaurant. Watch our chefs prepare your meal with fresh ingredients from the organic farm, at a cooking demonstration. Accommodation with serene water-views are available, with swimming pools and hammocks. The rooms also come with Wi-fi, tea/coffee makers and complimentary breakfast. Rejuvenate yourself with a number of personalized treatments at the Ayurveda Centre. Explore the unique bio-diversity of Vembanad Lake on guided nature walks, go bird-watching or take a stroll at the butterfly garden. Glimpse the backwaters at its best on a canoe ride, and delve into Kerala’s lively culture with performances of art forms such as ‘Kalaripayattu’ and ‘Mohiniyattam’.

Coconut Lagoon was a lovely place to stay in Kerala, with excellent cottages, excellent food, lots of things to do. The best part for me was the bird watching walk in the morning with Pratheesh, a naturalist working at Coconut Lagoon. He has great eyes, and a great deal of knowledge that he shared about the birds, and trees and plants of that area. I really enjoyed that morning walk and I learned a lot about birds and bird behavior. He was also on the sunset cruise, and shared more information about birds, and the lake. There are other naturalists at Coconut Lagoon as well, and they are also very good. Walking through the butterfly garden with a naturalist was wonderful too. It's a very beautiful and relaxed environment there, and a good place to learn new things about the natural world of India.

Hotel's Favourite
It is a little late to post this review as our holiday was 1st week of April. We were fortunate to spend a couple of days at CGH Coconut Lagoon Kumarakom. We were planning for a small getaway and celebrating our daughter's 12th birthday. We shortlisted CGH Kumarakom as we wanted a quiet, comfortable place to relax and unwind also we never wanted to travel far from our hometown Kochi. There were many surprise elements to our stay, the first being the 10 to 15 mins boat ride to the property. The staff was really good and professional be at the front desk, restaurant, housekeeping, and even the security staff. As mentioned earlier, our main plan was to celebrate our daughter's 12th birthday. My daughter was surprised when she got a cake and a flower bouquet (flowers and leaves sourced from CGH garden) at the breakfast on her birthday. The staff did this without her knowledge, and it was a really good gesture from the staff despite they were only notified by me after 8 pm the previous night. Once the breakfast was finished my daughter planted a tree on the property along with staff to mark her special day. This is something we will cherish forever. We thank all the CGH staff to make our stay most memorable and wonderful. I don’t think one can get such an experience from any other resort. Thank you and looking forward to visiting again.

The resort is beautiful and there is lots of things to do. We especially enjoyed the sunrise birdwatching with Vishnu and Anjana. They were both incredibly knowledgable, my wife and I are both experienced birdwatchers but we saw and learned lots.

Coconut Lagoon is on the edge of the largest lake in Kerala. There are, therefore, many many marine birds. It’s like being in a Nature Sanctuary. I went with Vishal and Anjana on bird watches. What a delightful experience to see the variety of birds plus hearing their birdsong. The naturalists were very good and provided us with binoculars to view the bird’s closeup. The property is marvellous. The service throughout is terrific. Dining staff is also wonderful with huge buffets for breakfast and dinner. It is difficult to leave this enchanting place.

This is a great place to relax at the end of a tour of Southern India. The bungalows are well appointed, large, comfortable and clean. The toilet and shower are attached to the bungalow in an area open to air. No problem except at night when the light can attract mosquitoes. The grounds are attractive and well kept. The pool is relaxing but soon runs short of sunbeds. The restaurant is ideal at the end of a tour in that it offers several non/ less spicy more western type options to go with the Indian fayre like pasta, pizzas, plain meat dishes. The staff are very good efficient and attentive

We visited Coconut Lagoon in December of 2023, the decision was based on YouTube reviews. It was an excellent decision indeed. We were visiting India from Australia and wanted to experience Kerala in this trip and did we experience it. The experience has seared into our hearts, we still can't get over it. We were greeted by the crew at the reception with welcoming traditional music and coconut juices and flowers. This was followed by a very welcoming Tea/ Coffee served from a boat. Every part of the stay was carefully thought of and executed to perfection. Service in every area was spot on. Rooms were clean and the open air bathrooms were something we don't get to see everyday and yes they were spotless too. A special shout out to the house keeping Manager Ms. Shynima. She was friendly and ensured that our stay was comfortable. Food selection was endless and they would make dishes to your taste. Loved the traditional sadyaa meal. The hospitality was exceptional . They organised everything. Transfers from the airport , sun rise and sunsets on the backwaters, my daughter did kayaking, Herbal treatments, I had an Ayurvedic massage which recharged my batteries. We went for bird watching, butterfly garden, yoga classes, swimming.... how much more can you pack in two days. All in all it was a very pleasant and memorable experience and we will definitely visit again. I would give them five stars in all categories, you can't say that these days for most places.

The setting is wonderful, chalets – some with excellent views of the backwaters. Even getting here is an adventure, boat along water-hyacinth choked canals. The room itself was fine, but for us, a huge drawback was the outside bathroom. It was, of course, private (if you don’t mind birds, insects and, potentially, reptiles). It was also stunningly hot, so if you need the loo in the middle of the night you have to move from air-conditioned comfort to 28+C. Didn’t like that at all. The speciality seafood restaurant served excellent fish, and service was polite and efficient. Regrettably, I made the mistake of ordering a duck curry! The sauce and the rice were truly splendid, but the duck itself was tough (I didn’t complain, it was really my poor decision, but the manager noticed and dealt with the issue appropriately. We were impressed). Breakfast was OK. There was a lot of birdlife to be seen, but we were delighted to see a Mongoose as well as momma cat carrying here kitten around. Overall, a pleasant experience – apart from the bathroom!

A magical resort with a village feel and very welcoming staff. The buffet food was the best we had in Kerala. Superb place for watching birds, the gatherings of flocks at sunset over the lake and the clouds of fruit bats were unforgettable. The resident naturalist was really informative too, and lent us binoculars during a wildlife walk. Wonderful swimming pool and performances of live music and dance. Unique accommodation in two-storey old cottages. Highly recommend staying here.

What a beautiful place! The gardens and pool area are stunning. We did early morning birding with Parrish and Vishnu. Both were excellent and we got to see an amazing selection of birds including Osprey, Bittern and Painted Stork. If you are a nature lover then this is a ‘must do!’ The food is delicious and there is a large choice. Overall a 11/10 experience.
