On arrival , this resort appears to be paradise. Bright colours, appealing modern art, our room, a bungalow, large with its own little garden and a choice of showering inside or outside. The greeting by Carolina was warm and helpful. The Pacific ocean here shows its wild and beautiful side – and a grey sandy beach which goes on for miles and miles. The restaurant and bar with its ceiling fans and views of the sea were perfectly placed. But we had three nights here – nearly four days, and the holes quickly started to show, mostly being in the restaurant. As we had no car – and taxis are unfortunately far away and very costly apparently – we had no real choice but to eat in the restaurant for 3 days running and by the end of our stay we had enough. The food was below mediocre. Soggy chips, extremely oily and almost inedible pesto pasta. The best thing we tried was the steak sandwich – and the Alma salad. These were fine. Service was slow and inefficient – we had to keep flagging the waiter or waitress down to ask for anything. And when we did ask – they often brought the wrong thing! Chocolate ice cream requested – Vanilla ice cream brought – twice. (Ice cream also very good by the way). It feels like a management issue here. When you sit on chaise lounges by the pool or the sea in a resort – I would expect the option of ordering a cold drink or sandwich or something – but no one is around in these places. Empty. So it’s a DIY thing – and there are no chaise cushions, just hard netting – I ended up bringing a pillow from the room just to support my head when reading, as the chaise doesn’t go fully upright. It was the little details that let this place down. It is a beautiful place and if we would have had transport – other options to eat would have helped our stay - the accommodation is lovely –and it would be fine if you could eat elsewhere. Some service by the pool and the beachside lounges would be welcome too.

Once in awhile you stumble across a hotel resort that excels in every category. Alma del Pacifico is that hotel. The hotel only has about 15 rooms, most with ocean front views. We rented an ocean front villa/room. The view was spectacular. We woke up every morning to a large view of the ocean. The rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel has surrounded itself with manicured tropical gardens. Just beautiful. Their restaurant food was outstanding. Very high quality. The waitstaff were extremely friendly, especially Freddy, who made the experience even more enjoyable. All staff spoke English well. I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel. We are definitely coming back and we will be bringing our friends.

Loved this hotel so much. Great location on the beachfront. Our room was lovely and spacious. Huge bathroom, two double beds and a lovely big living dinning room. Loved having our own Plunge pool. Had beach to ourselves Husband did a surf lesson (expensive) but enjoyable. Breakfast was lovely: menu rather than buffet. Enjoyed the dinner options. Happy hour from 5-6 was great, and wonderful Kenneth took good care of us.

Stylish colourful buildings and immaculately tended flower filled gardens are only the beginning when you stay here. The pools were beautiful and almost deserted and the hotel lawns with their hammocks and loungers meld into a glorious endless sandy beach with waving palms and gentle waves. Hardly anyone was on the beach (which is not private) giving a feeling of great peace and luxury. Our room (18) had its own gorgeous garden with seating and outdoor shower, a kitchenette, sofa, two 4ft beds (the only downside), clothes storage, a fan and ac, spacious indoor bathroom with separate wc (and a crazily sited light switch). Modern art everywhere and the hotel itself is a work of art. There’s a friendly relaxed atmosphere with guests bringing their pets, horses being ridden on the beach and sloths snoozing in the trees. Semi outdoor dining. Decent food including a partly buffet style breakfast. Great cocktails in Happy Hour as you watch the spectacular sunsets over the Pacific. Bonus is that you get a discount for cash when you settle up so a good way of using up dollars if they’re not your home currency. Idyllic setting for a real rest.

We stayed for two nights in a garden room overlooking the hotel swimming pools. The garden landscaping was bright and attractive and under constant care. Our spacious room was beautiful and brightly decorated and included a small courtyard. My only minor criticism would be that the two double beds were on the small side. The hotel is right on the extensive and empty beach but swimmers need to be cautious of the tides. The two pools were a good size for the hotel and supplied with shades and loungers. The hotel has a spa, a good open-air restaurant and a beach bar where we were usually joined by iguana sunning themselves. There was also a sloth who made its home in the trees by the beach.

Beautiful boutique hotel! Everyone was very kind. Clean, food was delicious, A good place to go for quiet. Only 30 minutes from the action in Jaco and 50 minutes to Manuel Antonio. We stayed in the beach front room, which I highly recommend if ocean views are your thing. Right on the ocean which is very hard to find. We saw lemurs, armadillos, and lots of iguanas. The hotel has beautiful and unique artwork all over that is worth to stop and admire. We had a great experience here. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful grounds and views of the beach and ocean. Each private bungalow is large with an indoor and outdoor shower, however, only one sink. The decor is colorful and everything is built on concrete. The beds are rock hard, unfortunately, and there are no coverings on the windows, however, the hotel will supply eye masks if you request them. You will see LOTs of geckos and it is likely they will get into your room at some point. There are also many bugs, also likely to get into your room. It is a tropical location, so that should be expected. When we went we did encounter biting flies and the bites are very itchy. You will also see LOTs of iguanas around the property sitting in the sun and they can be quite close to you which is cool, but be aware if that would be a problem for you. The beach is beautiful black sand, flat and quiet. We were with our adult children and they indicated it was the best beach they have ever been on. You can play in the ocean during low tide and can go out quite far and it remains level and you are still only waist high. High tide brings strong rip-tides and being in the water is not recommended. The sand is very hot during the main part of the day so bring water shoes to walk on it. Good shelling, but watch for land mines as they do allow horse back riding on the beach. The restaurant is good and offers a large menu for each meal, however, the menu doesn't change. There are one or two other places to eat in the area, but not a lot of options if you don't have a car to get to other towns. This is a great place to enjoy the beach, ocean and the sun.

We love it here. Our teens (ages 13, 15, and 16), had a great time. The rooms were clean, the beach and pools were wonderful and the food was good. It’s a small hotel and there isn’t much around, so if you are looking for a “resort” type of experience, this may not be the place for you. However, if you are looking for a place to relax in a beautiful location, this is the place. We were able to surf and take a horseback sunset ride right in front of the hotel. There are a couple of nice restaurants nearby that can be easily be reached within a few minutes. It’s about 45 minutes to Manuel Antonio and 30 minutes to Jaco. It has s bit of rustic feel to it, which we loved.

We. Are to this hotel for a family wedding. With limited rooms we were fortunate enough to get a room for the last three nights at the hotel where he wedding was. Evelyn was wonderful. She helped us get our reservation and arrange a transfer for us from our other hotel. The resort is beautiful. The. Jew from the rooms is outstanding. I can not say brought about the friendly wonderful staff. He restaurant was lovely and everything we had was delicious. Unfortunately it was rainy season so we didn’t always get to enjoy a lot of he outside areas but it was so beautiful everywhere you walked. The wedding itself was beautiful. Everything from the staff to the food to the service. I highly recommend this resort for a romantic getaway from he world.

We are back at our beloved Alma de Pacifico Hotel where we feel as welcomed as at home. The staff are incredibly attentive to every possible need, friendly, accommodating and thoughtful. The rooms are beautiful and decorated very artistically. The food delicious and they have a great happy hour. The gardens are just a marvel to tour. Be sure to take the time to do this! Great for group escapes, too. We spend our Thanksgivings with friends there. And lots to do in the area. And of course, the beachfront homes are very special.
