The hotel changed name into Stella hotel. Beautifully located with view on the lake. Decent room & bathroom, good food in the restaurant. We arrived late evening: not too late for a nice dinner of Tilapia & chips. very friendly staff!
The staff were friendly but, the food was very slow to arrive and not a particularly good meal either. The most memorable part of the hotel was the parrot who can imitate to the sound of an incoming text message from a Samsung mobile phone!
The view of the lake from the pool is possibly Bukoba's best, but after your sundowner, please find somewhere else to eat. I ordered fish and was served something brown (probably lodged at the bottom of the the freezer). It was totally inedible. The replacement 'grilled' chicken was fried hard in ancient oil and consisted of a few bony scraps. The manager was absent and the restaurant staff seemed perplexed that I refused to pay the full amount. The Indian chef who might once have been here has clearly moved on so there is no Indian food available. Do your health a favour and eat across the road at the Kolping.
Goggled Bukoba Hotels and Walkgard pictures especially of the rooms was very impressive and based on this I booked my stay. Was very disappointed by the rooms - the pictures on the website was of rooms in some other hotels and not the reality, filthy carpets, dingy bathrooms, dirty wardropes, no internet even when it was stated on their website!! Just stayed the night and fled first thing the following morning! The view was impressive and the food as well - but this still could not make me stay. The hotel is in dire need of a face lift and improvement of the rooms - including the linen and towels. Planning repeat visits to Bukoba, but no plans to stay at Walkgard
You will experience the most beautiful view of the lake from the hotel. The rooms are small but very clean on the downside the rooms are carpet which is not one of the best things to have in a hotel room cause of dust. The staff and in particular the manager are very friendly and helpful. I felt for the little parrot that sits at the reception in a cage and we were told that its been there for ages. Poor bird am sure it would love to walk / fly around the facility. The wifi was available and when it down the staff are very helpful in restoring it back. The food was great too. There is a big conference hall/ theater hall. The only downside was the fact that the hotel is not friendly to persons with disability.
