Bring your own mosquito net, sheets and earplugs if you want to sleep here. We stayed in the banda at the beach with a private bathroom, cold shower. Costs; 30 dollars per night. There was one mosquito net that did not fit the bed at all. The hut was very dusty, there were cobwebs allover the place, including on the one pillow we had to share. When we took off the sheets to dust them off outside, some kind of fliesnest appeared to be tucked in between the matras and bed. Around 3 at night (weekdays, not weekend!) it suddenly became very noisy with drunk and vomiting people next to the banda. So bring earplugs. The view was superb though and dinner at the beach was good. Nice chill atmosphere overall. Grilled tilapia with chips mayai for 10.000 shillings. Bukoba has a nice market in the city centre and a relaxed vibe.

I ate at the restaurant a few times last May. Food is delicious and all the staff is extremely friendly (including the cooks). Nice clean beach. Bar area with billiards table can get noisy, but the location and the food make the place well worth.

I stayed in a traditional Banda, but it's also possible to camp - if you're staying here I think bringing your own tent would be the way to go. Handy location to the town but nicer than being in town itself. The Banda was ridiculously hot and it's a noisy area, so you won't sleep properly - I wouldnt go back for more than a couple of nights. The mosquito net in my Banda had holes in it and there was a gap above the door where all kinds of insects came in. The power was very sporadic, take a torch if you're going to stay here. The bathroom is dark and the shower doesn't lock, instead there is a rock to put in front of the door. When I was there they painted the ceiling of the bathroom and black paint drops were everywhere, and it was a very smelly paint. The two restaurants are good - much better than other places in bukoba like the rose cafe which lonely planet apparently rates - and the staff in them are delightful. All staff spend a lot of timw cleaning the general area. The tour staff are a bit random, they showed me price lists but then charged me a higher "new"price for tours and for the accommodation. There is also a woman who works there who acted like my best friend - I am a young female and I was there alone, and she asked if she could be my mother - but then kept trying to get money out of me for odd things. There was also a party/function with a dj booth hosted right outside my Banda one night that no one told me about beforehand. The bandas latch shut from the inside but there is no way to lock from the inside (although you can padlock the outside shut when you go out) so it didn't feel very secure (but having said that I had no problems, it was more just the feeling that it would be easy for someone to come in or lock you in if they wanted to).

Right on the beach (where did all that sand come from? This is a lake!), the setting of Kiroyera is similar to the many beachside lodgings on Tanzania's coast; pleasant. The manager and staff are more than friendly. Only local food is served, at not too unreasonable prices. Their website advertises the best (only?) pizza in town, but the pizza chef hadn't been in for a few weeks, having been called away on a family matter. It appeared I was the only tourist around, everyone else being locals, enjoying themselves watching a loud tv set or talking Swahili around the campfire. In principle, this is fine, but I do find it a bit awkward, as Kiroyera clearly targets itself towards foreign tourists. I specifically booked this place over the budget hotels in town for the expected tourist vibe. There are single bandas at 10USD and double bandas at 20USD or 15USD for single occupancy. The mosquito netting in my banda was wholly unpractical. Showers are cold.
