Nestled by the seaside, Best Western Aberavon Beach Hotel is celebrated for its exceptional location, offering guests direct beach access and stunning scenic walks. While some guests express dissatisfaction with the closed pool and a dated façade, the hotel's clean and well-maintained environment, alongside comfortable beds and reliable WiFi, generally earn positive remarks.
Opinions on service and value show a spectrum of experiences, with commendations for the staff's friendliness balanced by reports of sluggish service. The rooms' sea views are admired, although opinions are divided over room temperature and comfort.

Detailed Reviews
A friendly, welcoming and efficient service from all the staff from the moment we arrived to our departure. Extra pillows for my wife and a hearty tasty breakfast served by Nish the newly appointed Catering manager.
The hotel has ongoing refurbishment works which didn't interfere with our stay. Hoping the swimming pool and spa are up a running for our next stay. There is the local leisure centre next door if you really want to look indoor swimming or other sporty activities.
We used our drinks/bar vouchers worth ÂŁ3 each to get a coffee after breakfast.
The hotel is right on Aberavon sea front which provides a promenade with views across to the Gower peninsula and to the North Devon coast on a clear day. The presence of the ever present Tata steel works did not detract from the beauty of the excellent clean beach which is used by surfers and swimmers all year round. Cafe's and eateries provide choice
If you want to make the most of your stay ask for a room either at the front of the hotel or over looking the carpark to get those sea views.
As with many hotels these days, there were some "long stay" guests. Some may be put off by that.... don't be... There were no issues there for us.
Great value for money giving a pleasant base to explore the area beyond Port Talbot. Close enough to the to the M4 for those travelling by car with rail and bus links if on foot. Not sure if buses run to the front though, you'll have to check that out. Otherwise taxi's are plentiful.

Hotel's Favourite
Have used this hotel a few times as it is close to a hospital where I am having treatment and with the exception of one poor breakfast my wife and I are very impressed with the hotel even though at present is is going through some refurb. HOWEVER this is not about a stay but about a cancelation. Last week I had booked a double room but circumstances dictated that we had to cancel. So I phoned the hotel direct to cancel the booking. The receptionist was very polite and friendly and sorted the cancellation for me. Nonetheless I was concerned that I might still get charged. As it happens I did but there was also an immediate credit back to my account the next day so I need not have been concerned. Thank you Best Western. Back to the hotel. It is right on the Aberavon beach front with very easy access to one of the nicest, cleanest and well maintained beaches in Wales - and we have been to quite a few. It's a little (actually it BIG) gem and we have decided that as the hotel sits roughly equally between us and other family members is England we are going to use is as a base to meet up. The rooms we have stayed in were very clean well appointed (tea coffee etc etc) and comfortable. On the occasions we have stayed there we have always opted to eat in the hotel and food is very good and reasonably priced. Staff are polite friendly efficient and always helpful. We do recommend this hotel if you need to stay in the area. It is also dog friendly which is a bonus to us.

Eight family members plus Charlie our dog, no bins for dog waste anywhere and nowhere for the dog to go for a safe run, wedding on Saturday not enough bar staff, was told new management cut bar staff. The hotel must have lost loads of trade, Water came through the toilet and had to be moved to another room . on our last night. The hotel staff were very helpful felt sorry for the bar staff taking orders for food and loads of people waiting to be served only one member on duty, The rooms were comfortable but need upgrading, charge for food to expensive, and no Menus in the room even if you wanted to book food, No information pack in rooms, and wasted opportunity not having outside tables and chairs, to encourage passing trade. Stayed here many times latest time the hotel needs investment and better management this hotel has a lot going for it

The location of this hotel is great, especially if you're travelling alone for business, the area is well lit with great walks along the front and lots of people around. Loads of restaurants/cafes. It's just a shame this is the only choice within walking distance of such a nice place.
The hotel staff are wonderful and they try their hardest to work with what they have available but unfortunately, that's not much. The rooms are insanely hot even in the middle of February with radiators on all day and night plus scalding hot water pipes running through the rooms and granted I do tend to run hot in the night and prefer a cool room but from looking at the outside I would have said at least 70% of people had their windows open and one evening the temperature was down to about 3 degrees with heavy rain and the wind does whistle right through the room or cause bathroom doors to bang so it would seem that most people had to live with the rain and noise over being so hot, you can barely sleep a wink.
Breakfast was OK but they did used to serve nice fresh coffee back in the day and now it's just from a flask so wasn't the hottest and got even cooler when you put the cold milk in.
The pool facilities were closed but the hotel did offer free access to the pool facilities in the next building which I didn't take advantage of but they looked nice enough from the outside.
Basically if you're there for a holiday then I'd consider trying to find an Airbnb instead. If you're there for work, be prepared to not sleep very well and just be run down the entire time.
I'm sure the room was very clean although I didn't even get into the bed because the duvet was very thick and heavy so i slept on top but with the stains on the carpets and curtains, it did feel like I needed a shower about 4 times a day which I don't feel like when I stay in other chains where the facilities and rooms are much more basic but I'll be going there next time I'm sorry.

If you’re looking for a luxury escape, you might want to keep scrolling. However, if you’re in the mood for a hilarious misadventure that will leave you questioning your life choices, then the Best Western is your ticket to comedy gold!
Upon entering the hotel and needing to visit the gents following on from a long journey, I was welcomed by a charmingly leaking urinal that could double as a water feature. Who needs a relaxing fountain in the lobby when you can have a DIY boot wash with a self filling pond of pee on the floor.
Now, let’s dive into the culinary experience. The food was a delightful exploration of "What do you dare to eat?" The food received, resembles findus finest at its best. A solid one-star rating because it was technically food, and I’m pretty sure it was attempting to be edible. The smell of food fats lingered throughout the hotel, a delicious reminder that I’d forgotten to pack any form of respiratory protection or something to kill my sense of smell.
The shower experience was a refreshing plunge into the Arctic. I’m not sure if I was washing off the day’s grime or preparing for a polar expedition, but I emerged feeling like a popsicle. Who needs spa treatments when you can have a cold shower that gives you instant brain freeze?
Then there was the broken TV that seemed to have a personal vendetta against me. It flickered like it was trying to communicate from another dimension. I’m convinced it was just as traumatised by the surroundings and the decor.
Let’s add in some rattling roof panels that sounded like a family of raccoons were having a dance party above me.
And then there were the beds. The sheets looked like they had survived a food fight at a greasy spoon. Stains in colors that should never be seen outside of a child’s art project adorned the linens, and I was convinced that I was sharing my bed with a family of public hairs that had taken up residence in the sheets. It was like a game of “What’s That Hair?” and spoiler alert: I lost.
In conclusion, if you’re in the market for an unforgettable experience that combines questionable hygiene, gastronomic disasters, and the thrill of playing “Guess What That Is?”, or “ what will you find wrong next” then the Best Western is the place for you! Just remember to pack your own sheets, a hazmat suit, and a sense of humor. You’ll need it!

We arrived at the hotel early Wednesday evening, I would say we had a warm welcome. However, the receptionist clearly couldn't be bothered and just about mustered enough effort to give us our room card. We went up to our room (318) and was pleasantly surprised on the cleanliness, the cleaners did a fantastic job of making a very outdated room spotlessly clean. We went down for food at the ?'restraunt'?, which basically consisted of a couple of tables around the bar. We ordered a burger and steak, which to be fair was edible, I'll leave it as that. We returned to our room to be immediately greeted by the over powering smell of cigarette smoke, it was as if someone had just smoked a pack of 20 on our bed. We were on the 3rd floor so no chance of it being the smoke from the cigarette area outside of reception, the people in the room 1 side of us had small children and had left earlier so not them which left the only cause of the smoke being from room 319 which is the other side of us. We went down to reception to inform the rather useless lad at reception to which he said "haven't you got any spray you can use?". Simply not good enough, my partner has quite a serious respiratory illness and not to mention who wants to go to bed in a room smelling of smoke and then waking up smelling of smoke. No other rooms available which I find amazing, can they really fill up the entire hotel with the state its in? Home we went... Useless on reception promised us a refund in the morning when the manager came in. This didn't happen and resulted in multiple calls to the hotel hoping to catch the manager, each time the manager was off or busy. We were told that the managers name was Rachel, we have since seen reviews on here saying that the new managers name is Monty and that he's incredibly helpful? I guess Monty was also too busy or off to assist us. We have stayed at this hotel a number off times and can reassure you that we will never step foot in this place again. What an absolute shambles, I suppose if you pay peanuts your going to get monkeys. This experience has resulted in a family wedding being booked elsewhere and loss of returning customers. Its only a matter of time until the hotel ends up like the rest of Aberavon, completely closed down and so it should be

Many thanks for this review and the one you completed through the Best Western Team. Whilst we do try to do our utmost to ensure all our guests receive respect and kindness, it seems, at times, we cannot please everyone. Our hotel has experienced some excellent works with many of our guests very happy with the levels of service they receive from our team. Your comments regarding the reception team are somewhat surprising as our whole team on reception often receive high praise from guests and customers. The area of Aberavon has a very hard working community and much like our hotel team are extremely proud of this . Thank you again for your review

We returned earlier today from a day trip to this hotel for a meal and an afternoon of dancing.
Unfortunately, things didn't start well at all. I ordered 3 lattes and one Americano coffee. After about 25 minutes they arrived. The young waiter spilled all of the drinks before putting them down. Worse still was that the lattes were not lattes at all and were stone cold and the Americano did not look at all appetizing. We sent them back. After a further 15 minutes they came back barely warm. We again rejected them and I requested a refund.
The waiter asked that I wait for this as it was rather busy at the bar with all the other dancers in our party having arrived on the coach. I agreed to this. Some time later I approached the bar for my refund only to be told that as I had paid with a card I had to go reception for the refund. This I did a little later again, only to be told that it could not be done at the hotel, and would be done by head office at some point within the next few days and that there might be a delay because the imminent bank holiday on Monday.
I reluctantly accepted this farcical explanation as it seemed pointless making a scene over just over ÂŁ11.00. Even so it seems to be absolutely ludicrous that I was unable to get a refund on the day.
On the upside we all had a very good meal and a great afternoon of dancing in excellent surroundings and in a lovely ballroom. Again, when they served drinks after the meal the cups came out early half full. It seems getting coffee at this location is a real issue for this Best Western hotel, and card refunds are non starters.

Dear Mr. Holley, Thank you for completing the survey regarding your recent stay at our property. On behalf of our entire team, we would like to apologise for not exceeding your expectations. We do apologize for the experience with the lattes. Corrective action has been taken to avoid such situation again. Since you paid by card, the card has to be refunded, unfortunately, refunds on card does not happen instantly and it does take a few days to go back on the card. Usually 5-7 business days (excluding bank holidays). We do need to have our accounts department process that and we have already informed them to proceed. You should be able to get the refund in the next couple of days. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you gave us to implement improvements to ensure we offer a better experience for guests in the future. The room was the hottest, most unbearable room ive ever experienced! It was impossible to fall asleep in. We had the window wide open all day and night, and still there was 0 airflow in the room. All that was there was a fan that did nothing.
The room was clean, but beds were small. There are no plugs at the side of the bed and a lot of touch up around the room.
The lady on reception was quite rude, and when we asked if the room might be ready early, she assumed we should have know early check in was a thing they offer although we had no clue. We offered to pay but she laughed and told us that wouldn’t be ready before 3. The room then wasn’t ready till 4.
The had a lift that worked; and room were quite but unfortunately was let down my everything else

Recently had the pleasure of staying at Aberavon Beach Best Western for a work commitment, and must say the exterior doesn't do justice to the quality throughout the establishment. My room was very neat and comfortable, and the heating system put other hotels I've stayed at to shame! the room had a sizeable smart TV and great wi-fi connectivity throughout, and I had no complaints at all regarding water pressure or heat. The breakfast buffet on offer was really quite comprehensive, and the staff in the restaurant were consistently polite and eager to accommodate. The note about the pleasant and attentive nature of the staff I encountered was true of all the departments I interacted with, including Reception and housekeeping (who were more than happy to refresh my room even when quite busy). The bar has a great selection and I did really enjoy the evening meal specials that I opted for. All in all I couldn't ask for much more, and would be more than happy to stay again whenever I find myself back in Port Talbot.
