It was our first time at Maldives. We spent 7 full days in Meedhupparu and the result was simply fantastic. Everything was very very good and, due to a number of details, above expectations. We appreciated in particular the “Premium All Inclusive” formula which really makes your holidays a total carefree period: it includes food, drinks, alcohol, and a few amenities and excursions with really a few exceptions. The people are extremely kind everywhere. You can choose among 4 restaurants and 5 bars but don’t miss the special atmosphere of Thavaa restaurant. Special thanks to Lushanth and Hussain for the kind welcome and service and to Sandun for his good Italian cooking. Another special thanks goes to the room service team which unfortunately we did not meet but who left us a great surprise for our anniversary. If we can give a contribution to this wonderful place, we would recommend a second coffee machine in the main restaurant as well as one in Thavaa restaurant (but we were told they are on the way) and also a better care to the vegetation. For the rest.. what to say.. Maldives remain one of the best places in the world!

We stayed at the resort for our 10 year anniversary trip for 5 nights. It was our first time in Maldives and wow, what a trip it was. Prior to booking, I read reviews which made me slightly nervous about this resort, but honestly, it was the best decision- everything was just perfect. Firstly the island is so naturally beautiful, with golden soft sand, the most beautiful coloured sea and beautiful plants and trees all around. We saw so many beautiful varieties of fish, including a small shark and dolphins go past the resort regularly. The resort is maintained well and any fallen leaves or anything else outside, regularly cleaned. We were in beach villa 264 and the location was perfect, the sea was just a few steps away and it felt really private there. We loved opening our front door to the sea. Our bed was really comfortable and large in size. The room was cleaned thoroughly daily and whenever we’d leave, we noted that the floor would be cleaned again to remove any sand. The fridge was stocked daily with drinks and a chocolate each. Bottles of water were also left on a daily basis. Best of all was the food. We had the choice of 4 restaurants inclusive. Our favourite was the Indian buffet, Sufuraa. They served a large selection of authentic Indian food, with a chef making fresh naan. The main restaurant Jafaaiy also offered a large selection of food. We enjoyed the food from the live cooking stations on the different themed nights. Cafe mass was good for sandwiches and pizzas. You need to make a reservation at the a la carte Thavaa restaurant (I would do it when arriving as it gets booked up really fast), but we preferred the other 3 restaurants for food overall. The setting at cafe mass and thavaa is beautiful, with stunning views of the sunset. There was ample choice of drinks at the restaurants and additional 4 bars. We loved the ‘berry berry’ mocktail. The staff were all great and always made an effort to say hello and ask how we were. The only improvement I would suggest is irons in rooms, we did have to ring reception a few times before one was delivered to us the following day as apparently they were all in use. Overall a perfect stay. We loved it there and would recommend to others without any hesitation. Just wish we had booked for a couple more days as reaching the Maldives and the island does take time and is a tiring journey.

I had such an amazing experience diving with Oz he is such an amazing lad who is brilliant at his job as a diving instructor! Oz is great, professional, fluent in languages, polite and made me enjoy that underwater world so much! Health and safety were in great standards! I have done many other courses before, but can’t think of another one I enjoyed that much! He took great photos and videos of me underwater I was dreaming of! He makes sure that you learn everything he teaches you, but at the same time you have joyful time! I am qualified scuba diver now and I would say that the time I had with Oz made my holiday more interesting and memorable!! CAN’T BE HAPPIER!!! Thank you so much Oz!! BRILLIANT EXPERIENCE!!!

TRANSFER When we arrived in Male, we headed to the hotel's transfer desk (2 o'clock as you exit baggage reclaim). They were helpful in getting us checked in and on the right bus for the sea plane terminal which is about 5 minutes away. At the sea plane lounge for the resort we were welcomed with friendly and helpful service with drinks and snacks here too. It's quite dark and so perfect for a nap but if you want to see outside just head out the door and slightly left and straight through to where the sea planes are. The transfer took about 50 minutes with a stop on the way and we ended up at the sister property. We took a 5 minute speedboat across to Meedhupparu and were warmly welcomed by Farouk who looked after us throughout our stay. When checking out, pay your bill at the cashier's office just by the main desks. There are also scales to weigh cases by the shop selling clothes (under a sloping brown box). ROOM We were staying in a standard beach villa, 223. It was quite dark inside partly because the number of trees outside between the room and the sea. The room was spotlessly clean and has 2 wardrobes with a few hangers in each. We also had two umbrellas, two life jackets, a beach bag, a free safe, dressing gowns and flipflops of two different sizes. We had a coffee machine, a mini bar which is included (soft drinks, milk, beers and two small chocolate bars) and water replenished daily. The bathroom is semi outdoors and really light. There is a lock on the door into the bathroom for added security. The toilet, double sinks and shower are all under a roof with an open wall to the outdoor shower which is fully open to the elements. The outdoor shower is warmish. Large reusable body wash, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion provided together with soap. There is also a razor kit (Gillette Blue II), dental kit and cotton buds. The hairdryer is fixed to the wall and it's one where you have to keep held down but it does the job. Good towels which smelt really nice! The outdoor shower area looks recently refurbished but the main bathroom perhaps needs a little updating in the standard rooms.....not sure if the deluxe rooms are any different. However, the room was absolutely spotless! The outside deck had two chairs, two loungers right in front of the room which we had to drag around to get the sun (otherwise we were under trees) and two lounger toppers which made them very comfortable. We also had a drying rack here (a second in the bathroom) and a beach towel each. Gorgeous views out to sea from every room although some sunnier and clearer views than others. There are UK sockets and also a good adaptor. The air con is reasonable and there is also a ceiling fan. Some bungalows are interconnecting which is useful for families but it does let a little more noise in and our neighbour on all but one night woke us up a few times with loud phone calls and TV watching at 1:30am. We did call reception on our last night out of desperation and they were on to it immediately which was good. Interconnecting rooms are not ideal but if you're in one, you tend to show a bit of courtesy to your neighbours which sadly didn't happen here. The beds don't have a proper headboard and so reading before bed is not the most comfortable. The beds themselves are comfortable and we slept well when we had the chance. Best rooms in our view are on the edge of each crescent. The closer to the centre you are, the more trees which may suit you better if you like a shady spot. South, where the deluxe rooms mostly are, seemed to be a little less windy and choppy. Each crescent has its own bit of beach and so it feels quite secluded. Best sunset views: at the end of the pier by the water bungalows, by the swing in the sea, beach villas on the north to the east of the pier (rooms 192 and 220 are pretty good). Best room on the south is probably 168. SNORKELLING Amazing! Go to the south pier and get in at the end. The reef there is big and extends towards the water villas, you can swim the reef and also see the drop off. Nice swim back to shore but be careful, if you go too far it may be tough to swim back and the corals are very shallow here making it hard. If you go too far and the current is too strong or waves too choppy to go back, there is a little channel back from the drop to the shore if you swim almost in line back to the end water villa but be mindful you'll need to walk along the shore rather than onto the beach as that's a private area. There is a photo in the cashier's office where you can see this a little more clearly. FOOD AND DRINK We ate at Cafe Mass every lunch. Really lovely staff here (thank you to Saman and team) and the food is quite snacky..... paninis, pizzas, burgers, wraps etc. Great view over the north pier. It got busy one day and we had to queue at the next door restaurant which was closed and we thought that could have been opened up as an overflow for lunchtime with a few parasols. It's not busy right now and so when it does get busy I can imagine it's tough to get a spot. Our favourite restaurant was Sufura behind the main restaurant. We struggled to find it and it's not signposted. You can cut through the tennis courts or main restaurant to get there. Part in sand and part conventional flooring, you can choose where you sit. Normally you need to book this but it was quieter when we visited and so could just walk in. It was so peaceful and contained a few dishes the main restaurant had and specialised in Indian food. I mentioned I was vegetarian and the chef went through every dish I could eat. I have got to say as a veggie, the choices here are excellent. Usually it's one or two choices but here the options are much better and I never felt I was missing out. The breakfast is good. The fruit options are a little limited and the waffles and French toast were missing a bit of flavour but the omelettes and pastries are great.....I've never seen such huge croissants! You can have breakfast at the main restaurant or Sufura. Again we preferred Sufura because it was a little quieter. The cocktails are a little hit and miss but we found this the same when we visited the Maldives the last time. Wine, beer and cava are all fine. Best cocktails we tried were the planters punch, the sangria and espresso martini. A brilliant ice cream station in the main bar which the staff will serve. Opportunities to have special dining experiences for an extra charge such as in the treehouse which is on the south ($250-300 pp), on the beach or at the water villa restaurant ($65 pp). We did try Thavaa on our last night. The service, as always, was excellent but it was the most disappointing dining experience in a long time which was a real surprise as it was tough to get in! I cannot remember the last time I sent anything back but I had to send my mushroom risotto back as it was a plate of mush with a hint of cheese with no mushrooms! The table next to us did the same. There was just one veggie option on the menu and but the staff made me a pasta dish. It was better than the risotto but still pretty flavourless. My starter was cauliflower soup with parsley and chilli but couldn't taste these. My meal was therefore two very white dishes. We left after the main and headed to the main buffet. We were so disappointed. ACTIVITIES Snorkelling equipment provided for free but we always bring our own as we like the full face Subea masks. Free hire of the kayaks too and you can pay to use the motorised water sports, go diving, fishing etc. We did plan on attending the cooking demo but when we showed up at the time we saw advertised, it was already over, which was a shame. Shops on site have souvenirs and essentials inc. food items (in case the AI isn't enough!) and toiletries. My husband's sunglasses broke and we managed to get a pair from here, Meedhupparu branded, for $25. Also got my postcards and stamps from the same shop, and there is a postbox within it too. Lovely spa which we ran out of time to use as only here for a short time as part of a longer trip. There is a small but fully equipped gym, reasonable tennis courts (racquets and balls available in the gym) and a badminton court. The pool is lovely with a swim up bar and views out to the sea. There is a towel station there too and comfortable loungers. The last time we came to the Maldives the highlight of the week was crab racing! So it was great to come here and see some entertainment. The main bar is lovely with lots of space, high vaulted ceilings, an area for games and a dance floor. A DJ plays until midnight every day and is good with requests. We had Balinese dancers, a really good acoustic guitar duo and a cocktail "fire and flaring" evening. Lots of wildlife on the island and so just take a stroll around. We had little budgies (parakeets we think) landing on us by the south pier bungalows, we saw what we think are flying foxes by Cafe Mass (type of large bat), lizards and lots of birds. So much for a tiny island! Good kids club near to reception which is all outdoors/semi-outdoors. COVID On arrival we were told we didn't have to wear masks as it was a covid free island. Only the staff wore them which must be tough being in those in this heat. They do take your temperature at the main dining room only, although we didn't know this at first as there are several entrances; we only discovered this by chance on the second day. Also, if you go to the smaller restaurant no temperature checks. I was 33 degrees one day and then 36 and my husband the opposite! Not much hand sanitiser around which seemed odd as everywhere we've travelled this past year has it everywhere. Most are outside toilets. If travelling to a sister island as we were, be aware that despite it being deemed a covid free island, you will need a PCR test the day before you transfer across ($150 per couple) which we were not aware of before arriving. I know this isn't the case in other parts of the Maldives and so it's island specific. The doctor came in a hazmat suit which seemed odd as we'd been mingling with fellow guests the past few days. The test involved one swab for the nostril and one for the throat. They happened very quickly and were then taken to Male for analysis. WATER VILLAS There are 20 rooms in total across 10 villas. One interconnects. Best views for sunset are going to be 17-20. The private beach here is wonderful and the pool is very peaceful. There is also a private restaurant and bar and the outdoor areas here are lovely. Bharati, the water villa manager (apologies if the spelling is wrong!), was lovely and provided a great service. SUSTAINABILITY Paper straws, wooden cocktail stirrers and refillable toiletries rather than plastic miniatures. OVERALL We have travelled a few times since the pandemic began and this feels like the most "normal" a hotel has been. The service is very attentive and excellent throughout the hotel and this really stands out. The grounds are well maintained and the gardens by the water villas are beautiful. The water villas are definitely a step up with a lot of privacy, a calm bay, spacious and well decorated rooms. Loved being in a beach villa right on the sand although rooms could do with a slight update but overall a relaxing break. The lobby and main bar were very nice and the infinity pool had a great view out to the beach and sea.
