COMO Cocoa Island has reopened on the 9th of January 2020 following a seven-month refurbishment. COMO Cocoa Island is home to 33-overwater villas inspired by local Dhoni boats, the accommodations have been recast top-to-bottom with clean-lined contemporary interiors created by Singapore-based Lekker Architects. The resort also gained an open-sided Pilates and yoga studio, which sits in an elevated position above the lagoon offering 360-degree views. A thrid of the private Island is occupied by the COMO Shambhala Retreat, the island's wellness centre, which offers Asian-based wellness therapies, nutritional advise and exercise in the resort's state-of-the-art new gym. A highlight is the hydrotherapy pool with high-pressure jets used for water-based treatments. COMO Cocoa Island is also providing activities to complement the holistic wellness offering, such as a PADI-certificate dive centre, reef diving, wreck diving, UV night snorkeling and whale shark expeditions.

Detailed Reviews
This place is really knocking it ‘Out of the Park!’
You arrive by speedboat, to a very warm reception party, headed by Oscar, the charming (and very well travelled hotel manager).
We immediately went and had breakfast on arrival, as we had woken up at 02.30 am to catch our flight from Male and were weary.
Breakfast is so beautifully done.
The breakfast room/indoor dining room is a very spacious, high ceiled room, stunningly done up in a mixture of Indonesian and Far Eastern style meets a very elegant shop like the Conran shop.
The food is healthy band very well presented and the waiters and waitresses very on it and attentive.
The yoghurt is made by the Chef (who is Italian, with many other nationalities as Sous Chefs)and is in very attractive glass pots with fruit compote or birched muesli inside, and you can add cereals and healthy things into the mix.
It is delicious, as is the coffee as is everything else besides.
There is great attention to detail here, and they keep it elegantly simple yet luxurious.
The pool sits nestled between the sea and the bar in front of the eating out area.
It is large and refreshing.
The bar is well worth a visit.
Ravi, mans it brilliantly, and shakes a mean cocktail!
Everywhere you look there are breathtaking views of the sea which is turquoise and full of incredible tropical 🐠 fish, who live on the Coral reefs that the island hugs.
They have just done it all up so everything is very brand new.
There is a gymn, hydro therapy pool,Spa, yoga room, (with an exceptional view of the sea),water sports centre, good shop, boutique style,(for beach wear, not toothpaste!).
Ray, from Indonesia takes a lot of the yoga, and meditation classes and is a joy to spend time with.
The rooms, are so pretty, house boats, of sturdy proportions, each with their own balcony with well made steps from the deck into the sea.
They even provide a fresh water hose, to get the salt water off you!)
The house boats are all in a line and have a lovely wooden board walk to access them.
Alternatively you can swim back to your room!
You dine outside near the pool for lunch and dinner, candlelit and it has such a friendly and peaceful atmosphere you feel that you won’t be able to ever find anywhere as nice.
All the stafff are really helpful and so thoughtful.
I really couldn’t recommend it higher.
Perfect for couples, of any age.
There were children here, but they need to be chaperoned.
Unless in a family group, I think mid-late teens would find it a bit too sleepy but for all those seeking a taste of paradise it is seriously worth a visit.....

We had the chance to spend a week with our 2 children (aged 5 and 7) on cocoa island. We had a fantastic time. Firstly the island is beautiful with large and immaculate beaches (which is not always the case on the Maldives). The whole resort has been renovated and the water villas are great with only a short swimming distance to join the reef. There are no beach villas on the island itself, which limits the number of guests giving a great impression of privacy. The restaurant and bar are made in wood and set around a large infinity pool. Quality of food is really a big plus with daily changes brought to the menu. It ranges from fresh seafood, meat and vegetarian meals.
The stay is greatly enhanced by the very friendly and professional staff. Although there is no kids club, the crew often offered recreational activities to our kids, which the loved.
This was our 4th trip to the Maldives and it was definitely the best one. Looking forward to coming back!!

I went with my wife and we absolutely loved it. The service is perfect , the villas are great and the snorkeling is fantastic. The rooms are so nice and the water so clear that we just stayed in and asked for food to be sent to the room the last 3 days. Highly recommended. Will for sure visit again soon.

We visited Como Cocoa Island for 2 nights as a couple in a one bedroom pool overwater villa. The room was very stylish, much more modern and with better facilities than most of the other resorts we have been visiting. The terrace of our room (1002) was designed in a way to optimize the sea view blocking out surrounding islands. The lagoon is remarkable - a lot of bright shining shallow water (much more than anywhere we have been before). Also they have a sandbank which is almost 1 km long and it reachable even by exiting into the water directly from our villa. The staff is very friendly and attentive with the butler as the main point of contact. In our experience they really to accommodate the guests‘ request to the utmost possible degree. There is only one restaurant with daily slight changes to the menu and some theme nights (Indonesian and Indian), but these were not on in the two nights we were there. In our opinion the choice of food was quite limited, but this is compensated by the staff’s willingness and openness to cook meals outside of the menu. We would like to thank Faisal, our butler, and the housekeeping team for looking after us very well. My special thanks go to Vincent, the general manager, who is not only very attentive, walking from table to table at dinner, but also very professional in handling different situations. All our points were perfectly addressed by him and his management staff.

Dear 179mr, Thank you very much for your recent stay with us, and sharing your experience with TripAdvisor community. I am glad to read that you enjoyed our service in general, your villa and the lagoon. I agree that our Sandbank is very special and unique, in particular for a "sunrise walk or yoga session". It was really nice meeting you during your stay, and I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to share with me some very valuable feedback on your experience. Faisal, the team and I, hope to welcome you back to COMO Cocoa Island. Kindest regards, Vincent

You reach there and just when you start to be mesmerized with the view, you feel warmth in your heart with the nicest staffs who would welcome you. And, needless to say, you reach the villa already stunned by the beautiful walk towards your own villa, you go inside your villa, its breathtaking - the turquoise water of Maldives, clean luxury villa with all amazing amenities, it's incredible.
Then, you get a personalized letter from the manager on your name, you then truly feel welcomed and feel like Como Cocoa team wholeheartedly wants you to have the best time of your life.
Then you go to the restaurant and staffs welcome you greet you in nicest possible way with your own name. Yesss, during whole stay of 3 days, it felt so personal when you keep hearing your name. Muru who attended us mainly during our meals, was extremely warm, nice and made us feel truly special, cared and looked after.
There are really good options of breakfast for those who are vegetarian or vegan with many delicious healthier choices. Their Menu for the breakfast always have good option for vegetarian and vegan and it is mentioned in the Menu too. Our absolute favorite was Dosa and Maldivian Curry with Roshi.
Room Service would come twice a day to make sure if anything is needed and always offer to clean the room or if we need anything. That was really nice too.
There are many activities to do in the Island - Snorkeling is what I did everyday, sometime few times a day, jumping out from your villa to do snorkeling was amazing. I saw turtles, Sting Rays and many colorful fishes. Its really beautiful. First day we went Snorkeling with our guide Raya and she actually saw few waste around the sea and collected it back. There is also sea grass conservation area in the Island and Resort seems to actively care and work on environment preservation and be mindful in their approach.
At the end being in the Hydrotherapy pool was extremely rejuvenating. I highly recommend doing it.
Walking in the white sand bank or lying on the various hammocks and swings reading book or just watching trees and skies hearing sound of ocean, all of it is a relaxing experience.
I also Did few works when I was there and took few video calls, internet was good everywhere. So, if you have some work to do in between your stay, it would not be the issue at all.
Manger of the Resort Vincent was really warm too and he came to drop us off to the boat personally and whenever we would come across him during the stay, he always made sure if everything is alright with us. It was also really nice.
I ended up writing really long review but this place definitely deserves all the accolades. My first time in Maldives has been amazing because of Como Cocoa and I can't wait to come back in the future. :) Thank you so much once again. Truly grateful for the most amazing time in Como Cocoa. :)

This was the 11th trip to Cocoa Island so everyone can assume that we love the place.
We had a loft villa. There have been massive renovations this year and we were concerned lest the serenity of cocoa Island had been damaged.
However the interior of the Villa retained its serene character. Much of the side walls has been taken out of the Villa and replaced by screens which allows the lights to filter through in the late afternoon particularly. This is very lovely.
The standards of cleanliness always superb
There is only one restaurant and bar. The breakfasts are superlative. The view from the dining room is gorgeous.
There is a good variety of food even within the one restaurant and during the week there are two or three special dinners. We pay for half-board. I was surprised that the fish buffet now incurred an extra charge.I do not think that this is entirely reasonable.
However this is a small quibble. Everything else is polished, warm and friendly and highly professional.
Treatments at the spa very good. The dive centre provides snorkels and fins for free and these are in excellent condition.
This is a truly special place. Many of the staff have been there for many years and this is always a good sign. You’re made it home – as if Home was in this beautiful place.

We stayed at This property 7 nights and we had the best time. The hotel is simple yet luxurious and beautiful. The island is small and felt like home. The staff is friendly and extremely welcoming.
Everything was unbelievable. Our butler Muru was full of energy and had such a positive energy he would make you smile even when it’s a sad gloomy day. He took very good care of us.
Ray the yoga/Pilates teacher was So knowledgeable and his yoga and Pilates classes were the highlight of the trip. He is very conscientious and takes time to help and explain anything you need to know to deepen your practice.
The food was delicious, rooms were perfectly cleaned.
The reef for snorkeling is a gem and is so beautiful and full of sharks and colorful fishes, turtles...you don’t even need a boat. The reef is beautiful where the hotel beach is.
Also the room is stunning and bright. We stayed at the villa with pool.
Waking up and opening the curtains to see such beauty and clear water surrounding us was magical.
Our stay was peaceful, and relaxing.
Our one year old was welcomed also with open arms and everything was set up in the room prior to our arrival for her. She had a great time running after the birds in the beach.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Thank you everyone for taking such good care of us.
We will be back.

This is Paradise, it was perfect for our honeymoon. Luxury
We will defenitly be back!
The Island is just breathtaking and the sand and water is so clear and photo friendly. It honestly looks even better in real life, but at the same time it is hard to believe how beautiful this place is.
We stayed in a water villa with pool and the villa was so beautiful, with ocean views all around the bed and livingroom. You wake up to the most beautiful turquoise water all around you. It is so amazing. Everything about the villa is top quality, the bathroom, outside shower and bedroom as well as the livingroom. Also a quite big closet !
The staff are really remarkable. Every single employee that we saw where so friendly and helpful. And our villa butler was truly amazing! They made sure that we felt like we where the only guests there and went out of there way to make our honeymoon one we would never forget. They even remember all the guests names by heart, which is unbelievable.
A big thanks to all of the amazing staff!
The resort was full booked, but honestly we rarely saw other guests. I would paddleboard around the island and mabey saw 5 guests. Feels like a private island all to yourself.
We where there during rain season (8.8.22- 25.8.22) but only saw 20 minutes rain in 14 days, so we where lucky.
The food was also top quality, my favorite was breakfast!
5 stars ⭐️ is not enough, I give this 10 stars
Best vacation we have ever been on. Already planning next trip.

This was my second time in the Maldives. I arrived in Male after 10pm, arranged through a travel agency, stayed overnight at a hotel in Male, and took a boat from Male's port to the resort the next morning. Since this was my second time in the Maldives, I'll write down some things I noticed.
What's great about Cocoa Island. The staff are very friendly and nice. There aren't many rooms, so there aren't many guests, and the atmosphere is quiet and calm. There is only one restaurant, but the food is delicious, and I didn't get bored for five nights. The plan included breakfast and dinner, but it was a bit disappointing that there were quite a few menus for dinner that you couldn't choose unless you paid extra. The island is surrounded by large sandy beaches, so I felt that the best thing about it was that there were many different types of beaches in each location, such as the long sandbank, the beach between the restaurant and the overwater cottages, and the beach near the bridge that changes shape depending on the time of day.
It's a resort with no frills, so it's good for relaxing and doing nothing, but some people may find it boring if they stay for a long time. Some resorts have tennis and soccer courts, kids' spaces, ample snorkeling areas, and multiple restaurants, so if you're considering which hotel to stay at in the Maldives, I think these are also factors to consider when choosing. The room was a boat-shaped type with a loft, but it was very simple and ordinary.
One thing that was a bit disappointing was that the beach was so wide that garbage and seaweed (like seaweed) were a bit noticeable in some places, such as the long sandbank. There wasn't a lot of garbage, probably because it's close to Male, but the beach was so clean that even a little bit of garbage stood out and ruined the beauty. I think it depends on the season and the terrain, but there was quite a lot of seaweed, and the staff cleaned and collected it from time to time, but it wasn't enough. If they were going to make the most of the good thing about having nothing, I wish they had made this area perfect. The long beach (sandbank) is less special and beautiful than I expected because guests from other resorts also come by boat.
Last time I stayed in Landaa Giraavaru, I felt like the sea and beach were much more beautiful, so I expect that the sea, beach and nature will be more beautiful in the interior, far from Male, where you can get there by seaplane (of course, Komo Kokoa is also beautiful enough). Also, if there are other islands around the island (excluding uninhabited islands and sandbanks), it will have a significant impact on the atmosphere. I would like to pay attention to this area next time I have the opportunity to go to the Maldives.
Due to the strong yen, it has become really expensive overseas from Japan, so it is difficult to say how much it was worth, considering the budget.

I was at Cocoa Island for two days, and wish I had stayed for two weeks. As a solo traveller, I thought that I would experience some difficulties on my trip but the resort managed everything seamlessly from beginning to end. The service was fantastic and I enjoyed every single moment of my holiday.
The airport transfer was efficient and comfortable and the ride was pleasant, about 30 minutes long. Vincent, Wisam and Zara went the extra mile to ensure that I was comfortable, and gave me useful tips to maximise my stay. I had wanted to learn how to dive, and Luca and Eddy made the entire process very enjoyable and not in the least bit initimidating. The people on Cocoa Island are very proud of their house reef, and rightly so - it is teeming with marine life and the corals are vividly beautiful. I managed to see turtles and eagle rays up close during my shore dive - it was a wonderful experience that I will never forget.
I particularly liked the vibe and size of the island - as a small resort, everything was accessible by foot. The water villas are spacious and understated, with all the modern luxuries I enjoyed yet tropical enough to feel like the quintessential island getaway. The open deck area outside the villa was perfect for stargazing at night and the sound of breaking waves was very calming.
The food at the restaurant was delicious and nourishing as well. I especially liked the resort's focus on wellness, which meant that meals generally felt clean and light (notwithstanding generous portions).
The Cocoa Island staff provided some of the best service I have ever experienced. They were warm and friendly (yet unintrusive), and always seemed to know what I needed before I could even ask.
I left Cocoa Island feeling more relaxed than I had been in ages, and will return the soonest chance I get.
