Travellers' Choice
COMO Cocoa Island has reopened on the 9th of January 2020 following a seven-month refurbishment. COMO Cocoa Island is home to 34-overwater villas inspired by local Dhoni boats, the accommodations have been recast top-to-bottom with clean-lined contemporary interiors created by Singapore-based Lekker Architects. The resort also gained an open-sided Pilates and yoga studio, which sits in an elevated position above the lagoon offering 360-degree views. A thrid of the private Island is occupied by the COMO Shambhala Retreat, the island's wellness centre, which offers Asian-based wellness therapies, nutritional advise and exercise in the resort's state-of-the-art new gym. A highlight is the hydrotherapy pool with high-pressure jets used for water-based treatments. COMO Cocoa Island is also providing activities to complement the holistic wellness offering, such as a PADI-certificate dive centre, reef diving, wreck diving, UV night snorkeling and whale shark expeditions.

I have a long history with this hotel and great memories as this is where I stayed when I visited Maldives for the first time 18 years ago. On my recent trip in September 2021 I can say definitively that it is my first choice, the best option in Male area (as in within a boat ride away from Male airport). Excellent service throughout. Great food, hotel has one restaurant, but regularly changing menu with added speciality nights guarantees that there is always something new to look forward to during your stay; healthy options from the Shambhala menu were always a treat to explore. Interesting in-house reef for snorkelling, always managed to see Turtles for example. The island is unique with its own wonderful sand bar that stretches out into the sea. Shambhala Spa is always a treat (in fact I use Shambhala products at home, ever since I discovered it at COMO Cocoa Island years ago). Helpful and attentive staff throughout. Accommodation. On this occasion I stayed at the Cocoa Water Villa, for travel professionals and travel enthusiasts it should be a destination on its own 🤷🏻‍♂️😀 It’s tastefully designed and furnished throughout and comes with its own gym. Comfortable living room with large L shaped sofa, two rooms can be used as an office, in case you have to work while on holidays, outdoor decking area stylishly designed, with a picture perfect pool, also comes with 2 dining tables (in the dining room and another outdoors). Pictures will give you some idea, but they don’t do it proper justice, you have to see it in person to truly appreciate it... I visit Maldives several times a year, I’ve stayed at many properties, and I can honestly say that I have two that I am always ready to return to and COMO Cocoa Island is one of them. PS: I’ve also stayed at the COMO Water Villa (2 bed) previously and familiar with One Bed Pool Villas as well as Loft Villas, great experience guaranteed, at least it was the case for me.

We visited and stayed at Como Cocoa for 10 days in November 21. These 10 days turned out to be the Holiday of a lifetime. The location, cabin, food and personnel on Cocoa were all excellent and extraordinary throughout our stay. The food had a very high level of quality from breakfeast to dinner and the employees were all extremely helpful and positive. Our butler for the stay, Binoy, was also an important reason to make our stay magical. Already looking forward to visit this gem of an Island again in the future.

The best honeymoon we could have asked for. Exquisite personalized service (everything we ever wanted or needed was done in 10 minutes), amazing food, and great activities (diving, windsurfing, snorkeling), etc. Would recommend highly!

This was our 5th visit to Cocoa Island & the second since the upgrade during 2019. As repeat visitors we we offered an upgrade from Dhoni water villa to a loft water villa & a complimentary bottle of bubbles & a couples massage - first tip is to definitely remind guest services if this is your second or more visit as management does appear to appreciate customer loyalty. Many of the old staff recognised us & appeared genuine in their affectionate responses & enthusiasm. As before there is only one restaurant serving Maldivian, Indian & European cooking - there are two theme nights a week but Al la carte can still be ordered if you don’t enjoy what is being offered. The one restaurant has caused concern for some previous visitors but we stayed two weeks & still found things on the menu to try. The Maldives remains fantastically expensive (a bottle of beer is 15 dollars with a glass of wine starting at 15-20 dollars). It’s important to remember that 10% service charge & 12% GST is added to everything so the bill costs about 25% more. Starters are about 30 dollars with mains 40-60 dollars - anyone staying a week or more needs to seriously consider a half board option. The villas all receive a daily complimentary gift of snacks, water & soft drinks. Sadly the two complimentary beers which was offered last year have now been stopped. Some of the reviewers have commented on the growth of the sea grass affecting the view from the villas - important to note this is affecting a small numbers of the villas & those from 808 - 832 don’t have any obstruction of view. Sadly there is developments on some of the horizon (there is very few spaces in the Maldives not being built upon) but we accepted this as a trade off for being guests here. We used the gym, spa & dive school. Familiar faces from the the spa & dive school welcomed us back. Hussain (sharky) runs a brilliant scuba sport centre & this part of the Maldives is truly a spectacular spot to learn to scuba or to re-experience breath taking HDR 4K diving. We used the Spa several times & experienced the signature Como Shambala massages. Congrats to Gusti & her team of therapists for being brilliant. Final comments need to reference the GM Vincent Durier whose daily breakfast surgeries gave him the time to meet guests & experience feedback (positive & critical) - his leadership & management is clearly strengthening Como Cocoa island reputation as a signature holiday destination. Paradise indeed regained.

I cannot rate our stay at Como Cocoa Island any higher - the staff were kind, attentive and every single detail was thought of. It's a very small island and would be perfect for solo travel as well as couples holiday. For us there was the perfect amount of activities available, but nothing forced and you could happily relax for a week without feeling like you should be rushing round doing every activity under the sun! I haven't felt this relaxed in a while, and it's definitely thanks to Como. I can't explain how lovely everyone was and every staff interaction truly made the stay so special! If you're a snorkelling fan, make sure to swim out by the arrival jetty where there was a family of friendly sharks every day!
