We have just returned from our second stay at Velassaru and it was even better than the first. Everything about the island is perfect. The pool and beaches are beautiful, and the restaurants and bars are all amazing. The service is also outstanding. Special thanks to Salam at the pool bar who was so accommodating and friendly all week. Thanks also to Raffat in the Vela and Turquoise restaurant. There are lots of activities on the island - we enjoyed the tennis, sunset yoga (thanks Arun!!) and parasailing. We have been to three other Maldives islands but Velassaru is by far our favourite and we will definitely be back!

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to this delightful resort. Once again the Velassaru team were exception led by Marj. The welcome onwards made this the most memorable trip we have made with the highlight being the romantic beach dinner to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The quiet resort offers everything we wanted for a "get away" experience after the problems over the last 20 months We took advantage of the "Indulgence" package which was well worth while and gave us freedom of choice in which ever restaurant we chose to dine. Faisal, the Head of Food and Beverage looked after us so well and he and his team looked after our every need - nothing was too much trouble and the attention to detail was outstanding. The food, especially in the Sand restaurant was exceptional both terms of quality and presentation but all the different restaurants with their different cuisines are excellent. We requested the same Beach Villa with Pool room that we have had previously which is on a secluded part of the beach - pure paradise; very spacious with a wonderful open bathroom and outdoor shower As I said in my last review 20 months ago: "The overall management and running of the resort is seamless; the team culture is exceptional and we can't wait to return once more"

It took us way too long, to get the ride from the airport to the resort, We landed at 7 and Wernt even on our transfer boat until 10am!! That’s 3 hours of waiting The boat ride there was nothing special, the boat itself took/5 mins to arrive. The welcome, we walked from the boat to the back, they took our passports while we waited exactly to be finished checking in, my husband was not greeted once, Forbes standard failed. We got off the boat at 10:03, it’s 10:20 right now and currently still sitting waiting. While waiting and signing for the double charge I let him know how inconvenient and let down we were to be having to change our entire plans. His attitude “that’s your choice” Our check in attendant was Ibrahim, his attitude towards it all was extremely rude, he basically said, not my problem, this is what’s going to happen, attempted to make zero accommodations. We signed papers at 10:45am and waited again another 30 minutes, finally got into our room at 11:16. If you’re going to travel 24 hours to go to your dream destination, avoid this place at all costs, it will ruin your plans so much. On the 17th, the next day we kept to ourselves except for dinner, we ordered our meal and some pizzas, we never got any plates for the pizza, we finished our water and never got a refill, we had to get up and ask for napkins and water, and then my husband had to get up and sign for the bill. The only thing the waiter did was being a pizza and water out, awful service!! Pool is mediocre, no slides, No activities at all anywhere, or events, shows etc.. In the Forbes standard this hotel would be rated a 2 at the most. Our total originally was $3100 But because they would not allow our 3 babies all under 5 (who already sleep with us in the same bed) to stay with us, they forced us to get a second room. (Knowing we would obviously not allow our 3 and 1 year old to sleep in a separate room) All about the profit. $6200 Save yourself the haste and heartache and try a diffrent resort, especially is travelling as a family, eventually I’m sure every hotel will have to become more family friendly because that’s where the trends are going! I also found two cockroaches! One in our beach villa and one in the spa!! I took a picture of both! And our bungalow bedroom wall had the wall paper falling off, not something that should happen in such a expensive hotel.
