We visited on a Thursday evening for an early evening meal, and the pub was quiet whilst we were there.During the course of our meal a couple came for a quick drink, then left and 3 other people arrived and seemed to be regulars. The gentleman I assume was the landlord was polite/friendly towards us ( I add this only...

My brother in law and I went to check out the pubs in area whilst on a walking weekend, after we had had a truly awful meal at a pub in the village we were staying. We came across this place, which we felt was a little too far from where we were camping as someone would have to drive...

I dinned here recently after staying at a local camping site.. I wasn't disappointed. I had steak & chips with peppercorn sauce which was mouth watering. I would highly recommend that dish if visiting the Craven Heifer. The venue was also cosy a typical North Yorkshire pub.

I visited this place about 2 moths ago, I'm stunned that these people think they make suitable publicans. The fire was nice and warm but the atmosphere was definitely frosty. My one star goes for the nice food but if you are looking for somewhere with a nice friendly atmosphere then give this place a wide birth. It's a real...

The beer and food here is always spot on. This has led me to believe the couple of previous reviewers are vindictive trouble makers who should be ignored The landlord does admit to being grumpy. I have never heard, Maureen the landlady ever uttering a swear word.

We visited here with our two dogs after a nice walk. The landlord shouted at us because one of the dogs had picked up a plastic table leg wedge and started to play with it. I didn't realise that she had it and I took it straight off her when I did realise, but the way he spoke to me...

As a couple we recently frequented the Craven Heifer at Stainforth and was greeted by a friendly young barman. We had only just sat down when the Landlord came in to the bar area and started shouting at the young barman and using foul language at him which we both found disgusting. If he had an issue with the young...

We called in for lunch on 2 separate occasions at the weekend with our 2 dogs. We were made to feel very welcome on both occasions (as were the dogs who were lavished with attention and given biscuits and water). We had great meals both times. The food was inexpensive and very tasty. The pub has a great location beside...

I was apprehensive as it felt like all the reviews talked about was the landlord... anyway had a fantastic meal, glad we didn't order a starter as well because the portion size was HUGE! i had Yorkshire pudding that was as big as my head ! hubby's steak was...
