Lovely country location overlooking the coast and just a few hundred metres walk from Skara Brae. We were made very welcome. Amenities include separate guest living room with good selection of island literature for the evening and home-cooked breakfast. Very good value for money. Thank you.

We prefer farm stays when available and Hyval was a wonderful base for our family [parents and adult daughter] as we crawled through cairns and explored the major neolithic sites on Orkney for five days. This is a real home and working farm, and has none of the excessive decorative stereotypes that plague many B+Bs. Margaret was a superior host...

Lovely views of the cliffs, near to Skara Brae. Excellent full Scottish breakfast. Friendly hostess advised us for dinner. The bathroom was a little compact, but we also could use larger facilities down the hallway. Located in a rural area, so a car is needed.

In all fairness I never did get a chance to stay at this bed and breakfast. It may be lovely. It looks to be on the website. I had originally scheduled a set of dates which I had to cancel due to conflict with my daughters school schedule. Emailed in Dec to cancel June dates and received email from Margaret...

This booking was treated as a scam due to poor communication. The confirmed reservation was made for a few nights but never turned up. I waited up until midnight no one appeared. I sent an e-mail for time of arrival was urgently requested. No correspondence was received. The next day an email arrived with a time off arrival and different...

Great location for visiting sites on west mainland with wonderful views over Skaill Bay and Skara Brae. Well looked after, comfortable rooms, use of lounge, hearty breakfast! Mrs Spence, the host, offers good advice and is most obliging. The location is excellent not only for the Neolithic sites but also for excellent walks on the cliffs where guillemots, razor-bills and...

We spent two nights at Hyval farm, the second was on our return from Shetland when Mrs Spence was ready to wait up for us after our arrival in Kirkwall from the late night boat. She couldn't be more charming and helpful. The rooms were attractive and comfortable even if the en suite facilities were very small and the breakfast...

We stayed one night at Hyval Farm while cycling round Orkney. On arriving up at the B&B the views are spectacular, down over the Bay of Skaill, Skara Brae and over to Hoy. Our room was comfortable and in good order, with a clean but compact en-suite. The guest lounge and conservatory where we had breakfast were lovely. The hand...

I stayed at Hyval twice on a touring holiday of the Orkneys. Evereything about my stay made me feel welcome. There is loads of parking, including if you have a boat or canoes. The house looks south towards Skara brae, the bay of Skaill and Hoy. Breakfasts were plentiful with a varied selection and the rooms were clean, comfortable and...

We stayed here as a family (3 adults and 2 children), occupying three rooms. The accommodation was very good, comfortable and very tidy. Guests were given use of the lounge downstairs, great for watching TV but also studying the extensive range of books and leaflets on the Orkneys and things to see and do. Breakfast was nice, and made to...
