Whilst our Solaz apartment in the Cordial Morgan Playa hotel complex was very good … it was also relatively expensive compared to other such rated apartments. We had a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apt with B&B. The apartment was well appointed and the patio with hot tub was excellent. The location is good and whilst somewhat detached from the main hotel facilities, this made for a quiet and relaxed stay. Housekeeping was first class with daily bed/linen changes and cleaning. The buffet breakfast in the hotel is very good albeit somewhat crowded if you hit peek times. Although there was a large flat screen TV in each room in the apartment there was no reception of English speaking channels, which when reported the hotel reception/maintenance said there was an issue with the system and given there was no Netflix/other streaming services available, the TV’s were of no use to us. Did we enjoy our stay in Solaz … yes. Would we return to the Solaz … no … relatively too expensive compared to other options.…
I stayed here as a family of 5 and I couldn't be more impressed. Excellent food, lovely jacuzzi, lovely choice and standard and have and would recommend to my friend and family. The thing which makes me put the icing on top is the lovely choice of pools and jacuzzi if your staying in the solaz.2 lovely pools which are one of the best I have ever seen. This is my second stay at the hotel and impressed with the quality that this hotel brings to mogan
This is now our second stay at these apartments. This time we booked two, one bedroom apartments, as treated our parents. They aren’t cheap, but, luxurious and we liked the freedom of an apartment, but also the opportunity to use the hotel facilities. We were allocated apartments 301 & 304, last November 2021, we were in apartment 301. The apartments were lovely and clean and we noticed some further electrical appliances in the kitchen from last time, being a pod coffee maker & juicer. Non of the appliances looked used at all. This time we were half board, as when booking it was just an additional £60.00 each. Last time we were just bed and breakfast. There are set dining hours, first sitting at 6pm, second 8.15pm. You are allocated a table number for your evening meal for the whole of your stay on your first night of arriving at the dining hall. Dinner was buffet, and three cooking stations. There is a dress code, no shorts. We saw several people being told by management (politely) next time to not wear them. I have to say It’s not the best choice of food we have had abroad, but, it was not the worse either. I am gluten intolerant, and unfortunately, apart from fruit for dessert, there was nothing on offer from the dessert area. You had to request a gluten free dessert, which they prepare for you, a few times I felt a pain as they were so busy. This dessert consisted of either a lemon sponge cake with cream, chocolate brownie with toffee sauce topped with strawberries or a banana with raspberry sauce. A few nights I skipped it as found a gluten free ice cream parlour that served GF pancakes, waffles etc. I did have to complain when I got a chopped banana with sauce, as I could of get that myself from the buffet. Anyone that is gluten intolerant will be disappointed with the choice unfortunately. For breakfast there is a tiny section with a gluten free bread loaf and gluten free pastries. We were allowed to use all the facilities of the hotel. All staff members we encountered were polite and friendly and they all worked hard. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with lovely plant displays, walk ways and hearing the birds during the day was lovely. The hotel offers tours of the gardens, and hotel. The gentleman that checked the hot tub daily always asked us if we wanted to keep the cover on or off. We always had the cover on, as it was lovely and hot during the evening when we used it. There were apartments below us, think also one bedrooms, (two bedroom ones are actually on the hotel complex), we definitely would not want those as you don’t have any privacy on those ones. It has been mentioned that there is only one English Channel on the TV’s in the apartment. This is sky news, we could not get this at all in our room, but, my parents could in there room. There is complimentary shower gel, shampoo and tea and coffee on the apartments. There is a hairdryer, but, you have to keep the button press down all the time, anyone with arthritis, or weak grip may struggle. Puerto de Mogan is absolutely beautiful and we had fantastic weather. We would definitely return.…
These apartments are fab, but they're not perfect, there are design flaws. We had a two bedroom, two bathroom duplex with private hot tub. It wasn't cheap, it's probably the most expensive accommodation in the hotel and apartment complex, so admittedly my expectations were high. One of the beds wasn't made up for us on arrival, which was disappointing as I had emailed about it and got a reply. We got to bed at 1am because I had to contact reception at midnight to get the bedding and of course being in the Canaries there are huge cockroaches which sneak in to the accommodation. The apartment living area was cool and spacious and the bedrooms were small and tight, although wardrobe space is good. Be aware if you're petite, the hangers are semi-fixed and high up. The apartment was extremely clean and the friendly cleaners did an excellent job every day. The full Bosch appliances I thought I would never use on holiday were indeed utilised. There are no instructions, I worked it out myself. The hot tub was lovely, the terraces were sunny and comfortably furnished and I would book the apartment again, but I'd come prepared. There is a lack of mirrors, they are too high for kids and smaller people and it was impossible to see in the en-suite bathroom to put makeup on because of the depth of the sink and shadows. I had to use a mirrored compact which I propped up and then I sat on the toilet with the lid down. The lighting is awful, it's just too dark and shadowy in the bedrooms/bathrooms and there was no full length mirror in the main bedroom. The hairdryer was weird. You had to hold the big button down to get it to work, so unless you've got the grip of a gorrilla it's hard going, I used my travel hairdryer. Getting ready was a challenge, despite having two bathrooms. The air con is set to go no lower than 20 degrees, which is fine (it's environmentally friendly) and it has three fan speeds. The issue is we knew it wasn't working properly in the twin bedroom, it was boiling despite the fan being on full. I complained twice to reception who said they'd send an engineer. Nobody came. At several points it was 26-28 degrees in the twin bedroom in July. Other families staying in the apartments mentioned issues with the air con and one said they were looking to be moved, so as these apartments are relatively new it seems like the hotel knows, but can't fix it. I've written a seperate review for the Cordial Mogan Playa Hotel which, I have to say, is wonderful. If you're a family of three, the suites at the hotel are a good option. The area of Puerto de Mogan is lovely for a chilled holiday. Some great restaurants, but the tiny beach is limited. If you're expecting beautiful white sand, big waves and loads of cool water sports you need to go elsewhere. My advice for families with older kids is you really need to hire a car if you stay here, there is little for them to do in the immediate area. HolidayWorld theme park and Aqualand waterpark are a half hour drive away.…
Stayed for 11 nights in a 1 bed classic holiday home without private jacuzzi. Communal roof terrace with jacuzzi for 4 apartments. Apartment superb , huge terrace with sun beds, table and chairs, Apartments known as Ocean Suites. Apartments cleaned everyday to a high standard. Very well equipped apartments, ideal for self catering. WiFi could be intermittent, but when it stopped working we spoke with reception who got maintenance to reset. FOOD: Breakfast available at cordial playa hotel, good choice and fairly quiet. Evening meals at main hotel also. You have to choose first or second sitting, which is a bit of a pain. Restaurant can be quite noisy and we waited quite a while for anyone to take our drinks order on a few nights. Food is ok but I would not book half board again, very similar each night and vegetables luke warm and hard. Not a lot of choice for vegetarians. Desserts are very good however. As we had our own roof terrace and sunbeds we only used the pools at the hotel for a swim and not to sit by, however there always pleated to be sunbeds available through the day. Puerto Mogan is a lovely resort, very pretty and I would definitely return.…
We have previously stayed at the Cordial Mogan Playa hotel and the Mogan Valle Apartments so this year we booked a Mogan Playa Solaz Apartment, these are only a couple of years old and are very stylish, we had a one bedroom on level 3 which comprised a spacious kitchen with Bosch appliances & quartz worktops, lounge area, a nice bathroom with a walk in shower and a compact but functional bathroom. On the same level is a big terrace with table & chairs overlooking the valley with fabulous views out to sea. From the rear of the property a spiral staircase leads up to a great sun terrace with sun beds, shower and a 3 person hot tub, both terraces have concertina sun shades so you can enjoy the sun or the shade. The only criticism I had was that for some odd reason the hot tub attendant would insist on leaving the cover off it all the time which meant it was constantly using energy to heat up. Eventually we managed to persuade him to leave the cover on so we could enjoy a nice hot soak. These particular apartments are just across a minor road from the main hotel but we didn’t mind this as you can still use all the facilities and off road garage parking is provided too. There is a local Spar within easy walking distance with a good selection of UK brands at better prices than home! The hotel is as always a fabulous place with unbelievable gardens and 2 lovely pools, the evening entertainment isn’t up to much but we ventured out every night anyway. Hopefully should be re-booking for next year…
This was also our first holiday abroad since lockdown. Stayed at the Solaz in a one bedroom apartment. Spotlessly clean and everything you could want and more. Loved the terrace with our own jacuzzi, sun beds, tables and chairs. Kitchen well equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Two swimming pools - one being quiet and plenty of sun beds. Very quiet area within a few minutes from beach, harbour, restaurants and shops. Staff were lovely too. Not too keen on the breakfast room as it was like being in a canteen or cruise ship - although lots of choice. Much preferred the smaller breakfast area but this is reserved for the suites apparently. Overall this was one of the most relaxing holidays we’ve had- we will return hopefully.
We have been coming to the Cordial Mogan Playa since it opened over 13 years ago. The hotel still looks brand new. Even in these worrying times you feel very safe. The hotel takes the virus very seriously without affecting your holiday. We are staying in the hotel’s new apartments- Cordial Mogan Solaz. They are stylish, modern and very high quality. You have full use of the main hotel’s facilities. A very special touch-a birthday cake, sweets and a personally signed birthday wish from the hotel manager for our son’s 11th birthday. A great holiday made even more special. If you are allowed to travel, come here! You won’t be disappointed! Thank you so much and see you again soon!
Overall the apartment is good - we stayed in two bedroom one bathroom. Great outdoor space, good living space however the bedrooms are quite tight with little wardrobe space. Very disappointed on our last day not to be able to get a later checkout- we wanted 2pm rather than 12 noon. Apparently someone is coming to this apartment today despite only three apartments occupied out of ten currently. Lack of flexibility in the current climate is disappointing.
The Solaz apartments are two blocks of apartments separated by a quiet road. The two bed/bath apartments and the one single standard apartment are within the hotel grounds, the remaining apartments are across the road needing a keycard to get through into the grounds. The latter isn’t a huge problem, but it does leave one with a feeling of disconnection from the hotel if you normally stay at the Mogan Playa. Of course if you are after a self-catering option and you are less likely to use the facilities of the hotel, it could work for you. We chose a one bed one bath deluxe apartment (sleeps max 3). Check in. We were informed by the lady on Reception in the main hotel. It was her third day on the job so we were prepared to make allowances. We are always happy to allow new people on the job some time to get to grips with things, but instead we were rushed, and it cost us. We stood waiting for a couple of minutes before we were asked if we had any receipt as our booking couldn’t be located, this sort of thing is always a worry, especially when we had spent so much, all sorts go on in your head when they can’t find your booking! I stated we were in the Solaz apartments and a colleague overheard and pointed at the screen “click here”. Thankfully our booking was then located and we were given our room keys and told roughly where to go to find the apartment. If we were newcomers, we wouldn’t have stood a chance. We were told the car park was the same one as used by the main hotel guests and could park there once we’d dropped off our bags. Only after we’d finished and were walking away a bit perturbed, were we caught up by a senior, asked if we wanted a map, and told the car park was actually under the apartments. In the past, we stayed in the main hotel and were warmly welcomed with a drink of choice, bags placed on a trolley and bussed to our room with pool towels and a run-down of where things were and what, if anything, had changed. Other couples in front of us were at the desk for several minutes, we were rushed through in around two or three including the time it took to locate our booking. Because of this we felt ‘in the way’ of people booking in to the main hotel and had the effect of feeling disconnected and unwanted in the main hotel. We were on our own with our cases etc. and made our own way to the apartments. The apartments are relatively new and well furnished. They each have a washer and dryer, dishwasher, sink, hob, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, plenty of glassware and crockery and a decent array of cutlery and kitchen implements. No oven though, so be aware of that if you intend to cater for yourself. The lounge area is adequate enough. There is a balcony with table and three chairs with fake grass. Bed wise, two singles pushed together in one room. There is only just enough room to scoot around the side nearest the wall, sideways! The third ‘bed’ is the sofa in the lounge so be aware if the people using the bedroom need to use the bathroom in the night, they will be walking through your ‘bedroom’ to get there. There are 2 TVs, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. English channels are limited to one; Sky News International. A spiral staircase up outside the door takes you to a terrace that has three sunloungers, a cold water shower and a hot tub. Again, fake grass is laid. On a hugely positive note, the ladies work hard keeping the rooms spotless, they get the full five stars plus. We tipped daily as they work solidly all day, always masked, always polite and never moan (to us anyway). Negatives: Internet connectivity. A complete joke. Apple users, be aware, the system they use hates all Apple products. iPhones, iPads and MacBooks. Slow to connect, regular disconnections, super-slow speeds. For those of you who are old enough to remember ‘dial-up’; that was more reliable. I did a Speedtest; 0.41mb/s download and 0.1mb/s upload (see screen-grab), that’s slower than dial-up from the ‘90s. They suggest video streaming capability, absolute rubbish, not a chance. Video conferencing? In your dreams! Oddly, in ’15, ’16 and ’17 it was a lot faster so something has gone very wrong here too. Thankfully we had roaming 4G on our phones and reverted to that for the majority of the time. The lift is almost useless, it was not working more than it was in our 15 days there. One time we used the lift it broke down while we were in it! It started its ascent, bounced a bit, sounded and alarm and we thought we were stuck. Luckily after a short while it descended back down to the ground floor and the doors opened. We never used the lift again after that. My guess is the hotel is on first name terms with the lift engineer. Be aware if you are less mobile, there is a long flight of stairs to get up to the rooms and when the lift isn’t working, there is no alternative. Remember, if you have heavy suitcases, no lift and no bussing of your cases means lugging them up a long flight of stairs yourself. Although there is plenty of hot water, it does take a long time to get through. There was no information pack that would have been useful to have so we could use the air conditioning, washing machine etc. There was also no fire safety information in the room and no evacuation information in the event of an alarm which I would have thought was a legal requirement? All there was was a notice stating you can only use the hot tub at certain times. Originally when we booked, the hotel’s own website stated breakfast was taken in the smaller breakfast room that the suites used. On arrival, we asked about this and was rudely told that was not the case and to use the main breakfast area. Also, take care as there are one or two items seen on the website that are not actually in the rooms (plants, a juicer, magazines etc.) The sanitiser at the entrance worked when it wanted to. As for the facilities, there are a few in the blocks themselves (hot tub for example), for the rest you have to go into the hotel grounds. As that is the Cordial Mogan Playa, I wrote a review on that listing. Worth a read if you are intending to book Half or Full Board as it’s an eye-opener. For the price charged, its not worth it. We spent 4 nights in an AirBnB in the mountains previous to our stay here and we were disappointed in what we got here. Next year we will be booking our AirBnB house for the duration as it was not only significantly cheaper, but far superior. Perhaps we’ve just grown out of these big commercial hotels that are beholden to their shareholders, who knows. But what we do know is this was our fourth visit to the Cordial Mogan Playa’s hotel and facilities but it will be our last.…
