We had a great, relaxing weekend at Mingary Castle. The food was outstanding (seriously - probably one of the best meals I've had) and the setting couldn't have been more magical. The hosts and staff were very attentive and made every effort to make people feel at ease. Really can't recommend it enough!
Excellent from the moment I called to book a last minute table, until the moment we left the restaurant. Staff are very polite and genuinely caring about showing you a great experience. Beautiful location and what a beautiful dining room. The food was excellent! Very tasty, very well presented and really liked the fact that the dishes were not super rich, so the taste of the local ingredients really came through. Well done to the Chef and the Team. Wish you much success in the future and next time we see you hope you would have gained a Michelin Star.
Our first time at Mingary and it surpassed our already high expectations. An amazing experience from start to finish from the greeting at the door on arrival to every aspect of the food, the wine flight, everything. Relaxed but perfection to every last detail. Many thanks to Jess for accommodating our daughter at the last minute. What a brilliant place, so beautiful and the whole team were ace.
Our family of nine hired the castle exclusively for three nights over New Year Absolutely superb in all respects Nothing was too much for the wonderful owners Jess & Colin We had a wonderful time & would highly recommend the Castle Roy Wood
This is one of Scotlands hidden gems. The restoration from a tumbledown wreck to the hotel of today is outstanding with clearly no expense spared. The rooms are what you would expect from a 13th century castle and yet at the same time feeling up-to-date, eg, the under floor heating in the bath room, and the rooms were warm and cosy, although closing the window shutters helped this feeling. The food was amazing, each course described on a menu you could keep as a souvenir. The fresh home made bread at every meal was divine and each course was expertly prepared and presented to an exceptionally high standard. The staff were exceedingly friendly and atentative to a really nice level. From the manageress, Jessica, downwards, all made you feel individual and like you had known them for years. Our 3 day stay was rounded off with a purchase of various venison products from the estate office. Loved it, will be back.…
We had the most amazing meal here tonight. The food was absolutely amazing and the team were extremely friendly. We have had a long debate over our favourite course but I think it has to be the cauliflower custard. Absolute hidden gem. We can’t wait to return.
Incredible castle. Michelin star quality food. Spectacular scenery. Genourous hosts. Luxurious comfort. Highly recommend staying at Mingary Castle. My wife and I had a small wedding on the beach below the castle and we look forward to returning as often as we can! Thank you Jess, Colin and Hamish for being so welcoming.
We arrived at the hotel on a beautiful sunny day and were blown away. The location, the friendliness of staff (and Hamish the dog), the room - them views and of course the amazing food!! This hotel had it all. So much so we stayed another night. Food was a taster menu of several courses - fine dining at its best with wonderful service. If you are a foodie its worth it for the food alone. The effort and passion that goes into making the dining experience is clear for all to see. We will definitely be back!
We were extremely fortunate to get a room at Mingary Castle to spend the last 2 nights of our Scottish West Coast adventure and it really couldn’t have been more wonderful. As a family of four we had the McCain suite which is the entire top floor of the castle. 2 bedrooms (both with 4 poster beds which are amazingly comfortable), 1 large bathroom with double ended bath, large walk in shower and dual aspect windows and access out to private ramparts with breathtaking panoramic views across the sea to Mull. The entire castle has been renovated magnificently and everything has a feeling of high quality. If the property itself wasn’t enough, the small team of staff led by Jessica (front of house) and her partner Colin (head chef) immediately make you feel relaxed and at home and clearly nothing is too much trouble. Little Hamish, the resident miniature wire haired daschund, was like the cherry on a fantastic cake. Finally, the food! Wow! We chose the taster menu on both nights and it was a different menu each night. Good quality local produce transformed into plates of pure delight. Up there with many a Michelin starred restaurant and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before the award is given. If you’re in the Mull / Ardnamurchan area, make the effort to go to Mingary Castle. You absolutely won’t regret it and it will have you wishing it was close enough to be able to return with ease!!…
We came to Mingary Castle on a day trip to the mainland from Tobermory, Mull. We had planned to walk round to the castle but didn't know it had been converted to a hotel. When we arrived, one of the owners came out to meet us and invited us to admire the views from the top of the castle and from the back. Absolutely stunning, we even saw seals! We were then offered us drinks inside, in a splendidly comfortable room. A really lovely experience. Don't be put off by the unwelcoming farmer who doesn't like people walking through his yard on the way to the castle.
