We came as a large group for a four night stay and will be recommending to family and friends to visit. The building and grounds was beautiful, our room was very clean, very well maintained and had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The breakfast was hot, great selection and well cooked. I do however, have to mention the staff. The hotel clearly has an eye for employing the best the local area has to offer. From the first young guy we encountered whilst making our way to reception, to the groundskeepers, the bar staff … everyone we interacted with, without exception, made our stay wonderful. They were friendly, engaging, thoughtful and took a genuine interest on how you were doing. They are an absolute credit to your hotel and they will ensure people keep coming back to visit. Diolch yn fawr i chi gyd!

We stayed here for only 1 night and the room was very spacious and the bed very comfortable. The grounds are well maintained and I have to compliment the two gentlemen working at the front door (one was called Neil) on their hospitality. There was a good choice at breakfast although we had to queue for quite some time as there was only one gentleman booking guests in and then showing them to their table. We did encounter a couple of issues. One was at the bar when I asked for a glass of white wine. The poor barman didn’t know how to serve it and went to ask for help. He then subsequently went to use a shot measure to pour and then could not use the till. Surely the barman should have been supervised to increase his skills and confidence. I really did feel sorry for him. The other issue was regarding the driving range. We bought a token for the balls and told that it would be closed 10 minutes whilst the balls were collected. We waited and half an hour later we went to the reception to be told that ‘Scott’ was there now. I advised them that there was nobody there and a few people waiting for it to open. Another golfer arrived and said that again Scott was here and would only be a few minutes. After waiting for 50 minutes we returned to the reception to receive a refund as sadly Scott never did appear. We would stay here again as it really is a beautiful building and would hope to stay for longer.

Dear Miss K, thank you for your review and kind comments regarding our concierge team and beautiful grounds. I am however sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay did not meet expectations. Your valuable feedback has been shared with the relevant management team. Unfortunately the day you visited the driving range we had some issues with the picker witch resulted in the delay, the extra part has since been ordered to fix the machine but I apologise for the inconvenience caused by this. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future to better your overall experience. Best Wishes, Lynne, Executive Assistant

Actually, disappointed. Loved the China tea cups and saucers which laid the way for a massive Treat. I really think that the Hotel should rethink their presentation, awkward food stands, too big for our table. Our party would have preferred more savoury pieces, 2 slices of bread for 2 people?? The vegetarian Haggis rolls and the Coronation Chicken wraps were delicious, however, a haggis roll, 2 sandwich triangles and a small slice of wrap, not enough for one person. For us, lots of sweet which didn't balance with the savoury. The cakes were lovely, as were the individual chocolate mousse, however, the small scones tasted lovely, but very dry and needed the butter, jam and clotted cream, to moisten the experience. For me, smaller serving dishes, so that it is easier to serve yourself, it should be an experience of discovery and an adventure. Again, quality products and patisserie, but, overtly over the top presentation, undermined the actual experience.

I enjoyed my stay here at the Dalmahoy. From the time we arrived, the staff was very friendly and helpful, making sure we got to our rooms which was helpful as the place is a maze. The food is good, the afternoon tea is wonderful. The only complaint I might have is that there is no thermostat in the room so when it gets a little stuffy in there, you can’t cool down the room. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you like golf.

We stayed 5 nights on family holiday with 2 children in November 2022. The hotel is a well maintained historic country house estate with many rooms and spa and golf facilities. Despite its age it’s of good standard with stylish rooms and decor, the restaurant serves very good breakfast including healthy options and cooked Scottish breakfast with made to order kippers and egg dishes. Nicely decorated, very prompt and professional service, well trained staff. Nothing to fault. Spa facilities not luxurious but acceptable. Location lovely out of Edinburgh town but convenient for sightseeing countryside, Rosslyn Chapel, and Edinburgh. Free parking in the grounds nicely kept gardens and golf course. Would stay again and recommend.

Lovely setting but average room and dining experience. Food was most disappointing and basic particularly the buffet lunches, had high expectations. Coffee service for the conference had regular dispenser breakdowns (all 3 days of the conference). Shower was not enjoyable. Rooms did not have laundry bags and forms. Found some members of the staff a bit direct when a complaint was expressed. Not sure I want to rush back, including from a price-value equation perspective.

While the hotel looks impressive, the rooms are ordinary hotel rooms with very thin walls. We stayed the night before our departing flights and spent most of the night trying to sleep through the noise of our next-door neighbours - they were not partying- just enjoying themselves as they should - but the walls are so thin we got very little sleep. Plus the hotel is a confusing mix of elevators accessing different parts of the hotel so a real rabbit warren to navigate with luggage.

Organised a stag doo golf meal and drinks, 14 off us. Booked us into the wrong golf course. Accused us of not paying. Booked us into the wrong restaurant. Guy cannot pour a pint even, either flat or half a glass of bubbles with drink spilling down the side. We asked to get it fixed and they refused. I called the manger the next day once home who said he wished we brought it to his attention at the time which we did and they were unable to change the restaurant… they did give us one free drink and changed the golf course but it was double booked and we were being sworn at and shouted at for the hotels mistake … when I advised the manger he said the age old words of poor customer service ‘all I can do is apologise’ and that if we want to book another trip they will upgrade us. I wouldn’t go back and I suggest you don’t go either

This hotel is outside the Edinburgh ring road, but if you want to avoid the crowds and feel like you're in the countryside, it's very well connected to the city from the car park / train station just along the road, or the Hermiston bus park and ride. The golf courses are obviously popular, but we restricted ourselves to the pitch and put and the indoor swimming pool for an afternoon of leisure. Dinner in the bistrot was affordable and enjoyable, in a modern setting within the Country Club. The rooms were comfortable, although we had a view of a brick wall which might have been avoided had we upgraded - they are not in the castle but in a large, adjacent modern square block. If we had a £ for every time we saw somebody lost in the corridors! Our only disappointment was that, as residents, we thought we could simply walk in for afternoon tea, but we were told it had to be pre-booked as they didn't have enough scones.

Service, cleanliness. Couldn’t find a clean area within the hotel. No direction or instruction from management. Service very lacking. Management accepting no responsibility. A special occasion ruined by the stay here unfortunately. No responsibility from management. A waste of of £600!!! Unfortunately cannot recommend! Offer of afternoon tea and late checkout insulting considering what had been paid for a horrific night. Room also thick with dust. I regret booking for my husbands birthday.
