Detailed Reviews
Deceptively large, absolutely charming and quaint in a small village. Good parking. Spent a long weekend with family and friends. Roomy, clean and we had all the facilities we needed. Location was ideal as it was close to shops and pubs. Will definitely recommend

The Old Brick House is now a holiday let rather than B&B. This was an excellent property for our family get-together. It is well-located in the centre of the village with easy access to shops, pubs etc. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped and made catering for our large group easy to manage. Pleasant garden for sitting out and enjoying the sun. Thank you for a lovely week!

Back to stay in this delightful guest house. Made to feel very welcome again & the breakfast was once again top notch with home made bread & marmalade.
Will be going back to visit again, that's for sure.

We were given a warm welcome when checking in on our arrival at the B&B following a walk, the room we had was a good size with huge bed. Breakfast was so good (great coffee Norm) we could only manage a quick snack at lunch time when out walking. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, they provided valuable information re the area, we liked it so much we are going back there next year !

I cannot be as effusive as most other contributors regarding this B and B.The rooms were good and the beds excellent and Rosie was very welcoming. However, Norm (?) was very dour and did not seem to be enjoying what he was doing, making no attempt to talk to any of us.
Breakfast was only average with hard, almost inedible bacon. There was no fruit or yogurt on offer and only a small glass of very ordinary orange juice. One of our group had haddock and poached egg but most of us were not aware that there was any choice.

We are sorry that your stay with us was less then excellent. Perhaps because of your late arrival you did not have time to read the guest brochure in each room that includes a breakfast menu as you would then have known that kippers and smoked haddock are available as well as eggs, any style. In general our policy is “Just Ask” and we can usually oblige. Certainly we have an ample supply of fruit available, usually visible on the dresser in the breakfast room, as well as a selection of yogurt in the fridge, it’s just that we don’t have room for everything when we have a group as large as yours. I’m sorry that the orange juice did not meet your standards but we cannot justify the expense of using fresh oranges. Sorry about the bacon, but you are the first person to complain about it as most people find the dry cured bacon to be very tasty, even if it can be a bit resilient at times. As the service we provided , I can only say that sometimes it takes a bit of time to feel comfortable with our guests and as your group was only here for one night and arrived late we were not given much time to get acquainted. You have highlighted one of the reasons why we do not as a rule take one night bookings on weekends and we can see how making exceptions can backfire on us.

stayed at this B&B for a surprise 30th Birhtday.Ideal location for the venue. Very disappointed on arrival at 3.30 that the heating wasnt on and the room was freezing, had to ask how to turn on the bathroom heater and as the building is very old it took ages to warm up which was byt he time we came back from party. Very small bath towel for each of us and had to borrow my husbands to dry my hair. I agree with another review that i was so cold i ddnt want to get out of the shower as it was the only warm place. The room was very small but bed was comfortable. Only 3 channels on Tv. Our friend who booked in after us had a huge twin room with large shower and Tv and it was warm. Breakfast was good but overall the little touches make the difference that make the difference and if the heating had been put on earlier then the stay may not have bbeen that bad.

We are so sorry that you have had a disappointing stay with us. I do, however, feel obligated to make a few comments in our defense. We would like to point out that it is difficult to adhere to our “green” aspirations, minimize our carbon footprint, reduce our fuel costs and also keep at old house like this heated at all times. We do run a B&B and we expect that our guests will not usually be in residence between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm so we don’t keep the heating on all day. Did you check that the radiator thermostat was fully open? The Elm room does have a large radiator and is generally regarded as being quite a cosy room with few complaints about the temperature. I will also point out that we have fan heaters and hot water bottles available on request and, as you found, there are additional blankets. In addition, we often have a good fire going in the downstairs guest room so there is no need to stay upstairs while the house is warming up. As for the bath towels, they are the standard hotel size towels and a similar size to those that we use ourselves. I think that most people find them to be quite large enough. Again, we would have happily provided you with additional towels if you had asked. We have little control over the lack of TV channels although that should change when we get the digital changeover in a few months time as we should then be able to get Freesat. At the present time, we are serviced by a transmitter on a local hill and limited by its range as we are with telephone reception.

Bishop's Castle is a lovely town and we really enjoyed our two night New Year stay at the Old Brick, which is a beautiful old characterful building in the centre of the town. Our double room (Oak) was large and cosy and had recently been nicely refurbished, and had a very good size en suite shower room. Our room was on the front of the guest house but was nevertheless quiet.
Our hosts Rosie and Norman were attentive without being intrusive and provided an excellent breakfast including gorgeous slightly spicy local sausages, and also gave good advice on local walks.
In all we couldn't fault the Old Brick, and the price was reasonable as well.

When I stay in a b & b, I want an undisturbed night's sleep. At the Old Brick Guesthouse there was no noise from the village nor from within the guesthouse and the comfort of the generously sized double bed was fantastic. My son slept in a single and he too commented on the niceness of the bed. We walked to different nearby pubs each evening and had tasty food at both. The breakfast was good, leaving us not being able to each lunch either day. Would be happy to stay here again.

A cozy B and B right in the middle of BC. Rosie and Norm are lovely hosts: welcoming and knowledgable on the area. The breakfasts are superb: a great choice, well cooked. The rooms are toasty warm in winter and light and airy in Summer. My wife, young daughter and I have stayed here a few times over the years and will do again. This how a B and B should be run.
