A really wonderful pub and a great owner. We went there to celebrate my 40th and all of the group have returned saying how brilliant the venue was. It’s a unique experience being allowed to have the run of your own pub and it was thoroughly enjoyed.
Leading up to the event the owner was very helpful and afterwards there was no issue getting our security deposit back in full even though we probably could have done a better job in cleaning up after ourselves. I 100% recommend this venue for a group gathering!

Thank you for your feedback it really does help others who are thinking of booking to give them confidence and also to see those who write less than honest reviews are to be ignored. It was a pleasure to host you and I hope that you return in the future. I am just pleased that my property helped you enjoy your 40th birthday. Thank you Kr Darren

We went to the Boars Head last weekend for a joint birthday celebration with friends and family. Our group were aged 7 to 50 and everyone had a brilliant time. The well stocked bar, games room (with pool, air hockey, football table, darts and karaoke!!) and hot tub made the experience extra special. The pub was cosy, rooms comfortable and the commercial kitchen had everything we needed. There was a separate, cosy snug with a big TV adjoined to the main pub area perfect for a movie night for the kids. The owners could not have been more helpful before, during and after our stay (even rescuing a dart from the pool table for us!). They returned the good housekeeping bond immediately after we checked out (in full) and posted items we had left behind. The local area has a couple of shops (including a garage open til 10pm handy when the beer ran out!) and beautiful scenery. We lucked out with the weather and went on a stunning circular walk from the pub. Such a brilliant experience. We'd love to go back.

We had our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations here. The place exceeded our expectations. Every single bed was extremely comfortable, everyone slept well. The kitchen has everything you can imagine. There are so many areas of the pub to suit every age group. There is a games room, we had people playing pool and people on the karaoke. The snug, a comfy place where we did a quiz and you can chill and watch both sports and movies. An area just off the main bar area where you can play board games. The bar area, beer pumps, activated if requested, a barista coffee machine, glass washer, every type of glass you can imagine. An area outside for the smokers, sheltered from rain, with heaters and chairs and tables. The hot tub is huge. This is a unique place to share time with your family and friends. Definitely 10 out of 10. Thank you for helping us make some wonderful memories.

Saw previous bad reviews with the owner slagging off guests and thought that surely won't happen to us... I was wrong. We had a great time, no drama and left the place cleaner than we found it.
Then afterwards we got a list of insane deductions from the deposit (e.g. £15 to "travel" to replace a kettle that was already broken) which left most of the party very upset, especially after the effort put in to cleaning the place. When challenged, we got a poorly written, inaccurate and aggressive response, the tone of which was childish and rude, and from reading the experience of others it's clear the owner is not cut out for the hospitality industry. We no longer expect much reason or sense from them so the only power we have left is to warn you, the wonderful public, that you need to budget for the owner thieving a fair chunk of your deposit if you decide to stay here. Don't expect the truth to prevail but do expect a sarcastic response (on here, perhaps?) from an owner hell-bent on ruining the goodwill and reputation of his business.

Thank you for your feedback and again your chosen title for your review completely mirrors how I felt after seeing the filthy state and complete and utterly carnage you left for us to deal with. However as I have so many 5 star reviews which can look slightly suspicious, having this one does rectify that issue, however untrue. Kr Darren

Please avoid this place... it is such a shame as I visited with my family and tried to have a good time... the whole place needs a good clean and very run down... the worse part is when we left the owner demanded money for 2 broken kettles (which were broken when we arrived) and the petrol to deliver them!!! Also do NOT use the hot tub. It is filthy and we were charged in exess of £200 for it to be cleaned... my friends who booked the place have had ongoing aggressive emails from the owner with threatening a lawyer Involement.. any negative reviews the owner responds like a total bully.. I am sure he will respond to this delightfully...

We simply could not have wished for a better stay, it was even better than we imagined and were in disbelief of how lucky we were to have found The Boars Head!

Darren, the owner was quick to reply with any questions we had pre arrival and extremely helpful. We had paid for a keg of Guinness on arrival and this was installed ready for us.
As a large group it was perfect, many rooms and all clean and tidy on arrival and the hot tub was fabulous, a few people came to check it regularly and give it a clean who were all very friendly. There is every pot and pan you need the kitchen was superb we made a huge Christmas lunch and it was really special. LOVE the fact that it’s dog friendly too, our 2 dogs loved it.
From karaoke to arcade machines, darts, pool there is everything to keep you entertained.

We went to the butchers right nearby for breakfast supply’s and everyone in the village was so friendly, such a quirky little place.
The Three Tuns is also worth a visit!

We will 1000% return, hopefully sooner rather than later although bookings seem to fill fast and I’m not surprised. We have already been looking for 2025.

Thank you from us all x

After reading some of the negative reviews, I had reservations. However, I am pleased to say those negative reviews could not have been more wrong. We have stayed in many many properties all over the country and this was one of our favourites. Is the property perfect? No, and neither should it be, its an older property and as such should feel its age. It is absolutely full of character as a property of this age should be! I only had the briefest of conversation with Darren. but he was very approachable and polite and dealt with the problem quickly and efficiently. The beds are very comfortable and all the bedrooms are lovely and warm. Having the bar area as the main living room is absolutely brilliant and something we have never seen before. The Hot Tub was great and really enjoyed just relaxing in it on a chilly night. The only negatives I could think of (and I'm being super picky due to how amazing the property is) Our room was the only room not to have a TV, and the TV in my children's room I just couldn't seem to get to work. I struggled with the internet in the far rooms maybe some Wifi boasters upstairs would help? and I just couldn't seem to get the sauna to heat up enough. Finally not being allowed to charge EV's is a bit of pain, but I do understand the reasons behind that, but definitely something worth considering for the future as they are becoming more and more common. However these issues are so very minor and like I said I'm being overly critical. This property is fantastic, the Village is beautiful and I really can't wait to come again!

Just had a fantastic weekend with family and friends and had the whole place to ourselves with everything you need for a group weekend. The owner Darren was brilliant and put on the barrels of drink we ordered off him at very good rates so we had fun pretending to be the barman and with the games room and TV room plus hot tub and sauna choice to do different things under 1 roof. Will be going back

A lovely venue for a largish group for a weekend or more. We celebrated a birthday and some people were able to stay in accommodation close by.

There was enough parking. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and beds comfortable.

I stayed in the annexe where we had our own bathroom and a comfortable bed with plenty of space for our things.

A well equipped kitchen and bar as well as a snug and games room meant the hosting was easy and there was plenty of space to catch up with people as well as space for a dance too.

I particularly liked the hot tub. I found the sauna but didn’t use it myself. There just wasn’t time.

My grandson particularly liked the air hockey and whilst he didn’t quite get the rules for Connect 4 we enjoyed that too. He is just 3. He watched his favourite cartoons in there too.

The lads were able to watch the football and on the Sunday we pretty much either ate out or got takeaways as there are pubs locally. I liked the cafe at the top of the hill where they will be entering their sausage rolls into a completion this weekend. I do hope they win a prize.

Bishops Castle itself is lovely and it’s worth walking kids and dogs to the nearby park.

I would happily go back and do it all again

Answer from Neil S

When we checked in we were informed that the price did not include a cooked breakfast and we should order the night before if we wanted one. We were also asked what time we would like breakfast. I have stayed in several small B&Bs earlier this year and at each I was asked at what time I would like breakfast. I have no problem with this.
