I absolutely loved the Castle Hotel. We stayed in room 1 which was enormous with a huge, very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and we ate in the restaurant one evening which we also enjoyed. Bar stocks local beers, wine and gins which we enjoyed sampling! All the staff were very friendly and very professional. The impression is of a hotel that is very well ran.
The hotel has a huge beer garden with stunning views but it also has a terrace just for residents with comfy seating. It was a great spot to sit and read or enjoy a drink in the sunshine. It was great to have some outside space. There was a large bottle of filtered water in the room which you could get refilled as often as you needed and on the landing there was a small fridge where you could get fresh milk for your hot drinks and extra water if you needed it. It was these small, thoughtful touches that I really liked that made our stay even more comfortable.
Bishops Castle itself is very pretty and the surrounding countryside is just beautiful. I definitely would like to stay again in the future.

Subject: Overnight stay at The Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle.
The Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle.
In the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the Welsh Border - The Marches.
One of our favourite escapes for a short stay, especially when there are such tempting offers at The Castle Hotel.
It has a fabulous location perched high up overlooking the town surrounded by the Shropshire Hills.
We stayed overnight in Room 3 on the first floor, a large welcoming, comfortable room with a huge bed and a feature roll top bath for a touch of indulgent bathing. There is also an en-suite shower room, so no excuses for being late for dinner. We have stayed in several rooms at The Castle Hotel and we agreed this is the room we will try to get on future visits.
The two bars are warm and inviting with a good range of local beers and spirits and open fires with the possibility of informal dining although the more intimate wooden panelled restaurant is delightful. We especially like the new garden room at the far end of the lounge with access to the newer terracing with a variety of covered accommodation in the garden.
The well trained, friendly, efficient staff are most welcoming and can take of most request. The food is excellent, be it breakfast, lunch, dinner or any time snacks. Professional chefs with a good choice of delicious recipes.
Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay, looking forward to our next escape.

The hotel is in a beautiful part of Shropshire & Bishop's Castle is a unique town, full of history as is the hotel.
Our "small" double we felt was rather big, very nicely furnished with a powerful shower over the bath. The hotel felt very homely - lots of different areas to sit in with a gorgeous new conservatory. The space outside has exceptional views with lots of tables and chairs and a covered area.
Dogs are well looked after, with a sausage for them at Breakfast & "Doggy Boxes" containing lots of goodies.
The food was fabulous - very tasty with lots of choice on the menu. Breakfast had a varied menu with quality sausages etc.
Finally all of the staff were very friendly and helpful and worked well as a team. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here!

This is a great base for hiking and walking enthusiasts - particularly those with dogs, staff are very friendly and helpful and rooms are are very comfortable - we had Room 2 on the Ist Floor with lovely views and very comfortable.
The food - an essential ingredient for any hiking trip - was very disappointing - often over cooked or flooded/swimming with too much sauce. Breakfast buffet was very nice but the cooked egg options were poor - how difficult is it to make scrambled eggs or omelettes to set you off for a mornings hike. Possibly pre-cooked or flooded in something not required
Lunchtime sandwiches made from ultra-processed bread did not help
Wine and beers fortunately all very good !
Given the price point and the recent awards we would have expected the food offering to be much better and certainly you can find this at other locations. (Peak District - Losehill House)
Overall average to good but could have been so much better if food was better !

We had a lovely two night stay in November at the Castle Hotel! A beautiful old "creaky and twisty" coaching house that really makes you feel as 'though you have just stepped from a horse drawn coach or just pulled up on your 1920's road trip, just like in the movies! After all it's 300 years, it has been sympathetically modernised and retains much of the character from it's early years and is kept spotlessly clean! The room was cosy and warm. The only things I would improve on is levelling the bedside tables with wedges and a couple more lamps for mood lighting. All the staff were warm and welcoming and happy to help with anything. A really nice touch was that you could help yourself to chilled water or milk from a fridge on the landing. Breakfast was splendid (apart from the pancakes being too thick for the Mrs) with a good range to choose from. We had a delicious evening meal, again there was a great choice of dishes. Bishops Castle is a lovely village to visit and a great base for exploring surrounding Shropshire and I don't think we will find anywhere better to stay than the Castle Hotel! We will return!

This was our second stay in the Elephant Gatehouse and it really is excellent. The beds are comfy and the shower is one of the best i have ever used. Be careful with the low door frame/beam though: i managed to keep banging my head despite the sign! We only stayed for two nights and didn't use the kitchen much at all but it is well equipped and well thought out. The little garden is great for humans and dogs alike and the views are wonderful. As hotel guests you get breakfast which was excellent, and quick, both mornings and we spent time in the pub garden and had supper in the pub over the course of the week end. The entire staff were friendly and helpful. Having a dedicated parking space right outside is perfect (and parking in BC isn't that easy). I only didn't give 5 stars because it is pretty expensive for a family of four (ÂŁ680 for two nights) with only one loo (upstairs, and one downstairs would be ideal) and the little sitting upstairs just doesn't get used so the common area is in reality the kitchen. I would certainly hope to stay again - just find it a bit expensive unfortunately.

Another wonderful stay at this iconic hotel. At our request we stayed in the twin-bedded attic room with its beams, fabulous views and beautiful furnishing. Good breakfast and delicious dinner. Would rather not eat breakfast with other people's dogs - perhaps we could be asked whether we prefer to eat in the dining room, not the bar. Staff so friendly, helpful and courteous. Thoroughly recommended!

Stayed here for a weekend break as a family member was getting married at a nearby venue. We were welcomed in and given our designated rooms. Rooms 2 and 3. The rooms were Master Doubles. We pre booked our slots for breakfast each morning.
Room 3 was situated on the 1st floor and was a lovely large room which predominately over looked the car park but also the surrounding area. There was a large king size bed in the centre of the room which was very comfortable and a large roll top bath positioned so as to look out over the views. A modern bathroom with a large walk in shower was located off this, with shampoo, shower gel and towels provided.
Breakfast within the hotel was very good with a choice of cereals, juices and fruits accompanied by a seperate menu serving hot breakfast choices. I had both eggs benadict and a full English and both were very tasty.
The staff here were friendly and couldn't do enough to assist us during our stay. When my father had somehow forgotten his suit for his sons wedding, the staff went above and beyond ralliying around other staff and locals to get a replacement suit suitable enough for him to wear saving the day and his blood! They truly were fantastic and we can't thank them enough for coming to our aid.
If your ever in the area and need a place to stay this hotel is definitely recommended.

The bedroom was spotlessly clean and very pleasant. My partner and I had all that we needed. The standard of service was inconsistent throughout but never rude. The effort was very much down to the guest to be proactive upon getting attention to basic requests such as "may my dog have a water bowl please."
I appreciated the honesty from the gentleman who works behind the bar. If he didn't know about a particular drink, he would say. The food was a huge disappointment and, unfortunately, processed with perfectly pre out of a caterers catalogue presented starters and mains with variation of temperatures.
When it came down to heating a real breakfast, this came with a challenge, leave it or give it to the dog. The price of the food isn't justified when the majority of it is brought in ready for heat.
The building was well-maintained but required a high-level clean in some areas. The history was fascinating. Our room was lovely, staff work very hard the hotel appears well run and well maintained. The food and price of the food simply weren't justified in our opinion.

The Castle Hotel goes from strength to strength. Local beers, all well kept, and really good home cooked food with perfect size portions. The puddings were verym good. Bit pricey but still good value if you want something a bit grander than other places in the town
