We have been coming to Poppy House for many years. Lovely place full of character run by very nice family. It is an old house near top of main street in Bishops Castle. Rooms cosy and quaint. Breakfasts on offer for part of week. Really good home cooked, food. Bishops Castle great place to stay, lot of nice cafes and eating places from up market at Castle Hotel to local pubs and breakfast cafes like Herbies . Poppy House also run a lovely cafe for part week with home cooked food and cakes. The town has a lot of interesting shops with an artsy, crafty vibe - Rosie's has lovely, good value vintage clothes and interesting fabrics, jewellery and ceramics. Militaria and jewellery and antique shop next door full of interesting finds. Ark Antiques has lots authentic Shropshire country furniture and antiques. Poetry Pharmacy bookshop and cafe very interesting. Local people very welcoming and helpful. Lots good walks nearby and places like Clun to visit.

My wife and I stayed at the Poppy House for one night and can't recommend the place high enough. From letting us into our room early to letting us park our car at the back of the property owners Clive and Julie couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was enjoyable.

Room was clean and large, shower was powerful and everything we needed was in the room - toiletries, tea/coffee, mini fridge etc etc.

Breakfast was really nice with lots of choice. And I feel like I should add that everything has been done to make the B&B safe and Covid secure. The whole building was very clean and extra measures were in place to make guests feel safe. The owners also run the Poppy House Tearooms next door to the B&B but sadly it is closed on Tuesdays when we stayed otherwise we would've definitely visited.

All in all The Poppy House is a wonderful place to stay and if you're in Bishop's Castle for a break I can't recommend it enough.

We had a wonderful stay in Room 3 of the Poppy House. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming and the cooked breakfasts were delicious and generous (full of good quality local produce). We loved our room which was large, light, and overlooked the main shopping area of Bishops Castle. The window seat was a great spot for a glass of wine.

We took advantage of the midweek deal on the Poppy House website but it would have been great value even without the free extra nights stay.

Thank you to everyone at the Poppy House we had a a great stay!

We had three nights here last week on a recommendation from friends. Great place in a lovely little town. The room was a good size and it was great having a fridge in there (with fresh milk provided everyday), tea and coffee making facilities were a bonus too. Lovely full English breakfast every morning made by Lynne. Would highly recommend.

Another lovely stay at the Poppy House (in Bishops Castle) , we return every year. House full of character. I stayed in no 4 called the Robert Plant room because he once stayed there!. Delicious cooked breakfast , comfy room with mini fridge. Run by lovely family including Julie and Clive who are very welcoming. They also run a cafe in day time with lovely scones, home cooked soup and food. House at top of hill , near lots of interesting independent shops relating to crafts , books, antiques, clothes etc. Also some galleries. Many real ale pubs eg Three Tuns with Brewery nearby, Six Bells, Vaults Pub does music sometime, Castle Hotel. Beautiful church at bottom hill. Sometimes flea/food market at Town Hall. Bishops Castle interesting town with lots character and artsy/crafty vibe.

Lovely character property with a great breakfast and warm welcome. Fridge in room was a nice touch to keep the milk and bottled water cool. Would certainly stay here again. Thank you for the Three Tuns dinner recommendation!

My wife and I had a 4-night stay at the Poppy House and it was good to return to a warm and comfortable room after a day's walking in the local countryside, especially the day we got very wet and cold. A nice touch is a large tray next to a radiator where you can dry your walking boots. There is good food and beer close by at the Three Tuns, or a little further at the Six Bells.

From the outside you may not be expecting much but this was a great find

Friendly owners, I had room one which was loverly. Comfortable bed, powerful shower. Also nice touch with a mini fridge and fresh milk . Good WiFi , plenty of towels and very clean
If you are a light sleeper the property is near the Town clock which chimes every 15 mins, 24 hours a day! Plus it’s an old building, so creeks. However complimentary ear plus are supplied

Nice breakfast, cooked to order

Great value and in a lovely town

We stayed in early June and from the moment of arrival we're met with warmth and care. Everything possible has beeb thought of, to give a Covid safe but massively caring experience! Utterly delicious food, with every taste catered for. Kindness and care are their intentions and you feel welcomed like one of the family.
Comfy beds soft towels and clean rooms. The charm of the house is wonderful but so too is the charm of Julie and Clive. We will be back to see you! Thank you once again!

We were half expecting to be told we were too late for lunch, and turned away. But what a delight! We were very warmly welcomed, and served a delicious spinach soup accompanied by generous sandwiches on tasty granary bread. The Poppy House had a homely feel but was entirely professional.
