We came here for a couple of nights away from home, for the first time in almost 500 nights. Unheard of for us!! We chose the Whistledown because of their Covid19 sanitising procedures. They use an Ozone sanitiser after the room has been cleaned and only enter the room during your stay if requested. Other hotels we considered didn't use such effective procedures. Room 103 is a beautiful room with a large bay window as well as another smaller window beside the bed making this a large, bright, airy room. It overlooks Queen Street beside the hotel and there is a good view of the sea from the bay window. We had tried to book a sea view room but there were none available, this was a good alternative. However, even using the lift still requires guests to walk up and down 5 steps to reach the room. Something to consider if you have mobility problems. It is well equipped with tea/coffee, iron and ironing board, in room safe and a reasonable number of hangers. The bathroom is modern, clean and bright. There's a shower over the bath, but no non slip bathmat, although part of the bath is dimpled to provide some non slip which was quite effective. The overhead power shower was very good, the detachable shower head wasn't so good. The glass shower panel isn't a perfect fit, so a wee bit of water falls on the floor. Breakfast was excellent! There is a wide range of dishes available and their fry was substantial with a good selection of items from which you can select what you want. It was as good as the last time we stayed here 5 years ago - highly recommended!

Whilst dining as guests at a family Event we were made to feel very unwelcome with our children. As a large party, our dining experience spanned in excess of 1.5 hours and on several occasions my 2 year old was reprimanded by staff for walking the perimeter of the dining table between his familiar adults. I was told, when I intercepted this exchange between my small toddler and staff member, that children must be seated at all times in the dining room. At a later stage when my 10 and 8 year old played out in the hallway, which was in very close proximity to where we were seated, a staff member took it upon herself to reprimand them rather than approach their parents. It is most unrealistic to expect children to ‘remain seated at all times’ and made for an extremely stressful dining experience. I would suggest this venue rethink their child friendly policy and maybe have their staff educate themselves as to how children behave in general. So stressed were we by the whole experience that we had to leave. I would most certainly not recommend this venue for family dining and unwelcoming staff have ensured I will never return to the Whistledown!

Went here with friends. The staff were brilliant, attentive and pleasant. Food was OK but why oh why does the chef feel it necessary to add quite a lot of rock salt..surely that's a personal choice. Not necessary! Spoiled the experience. I didn't want to complain as it was a special day. Please let us season our own food!!
