We stayed here only two nights. We wished we had stayed here another two nights rather than moving on to Dadanawa (see separate review). Where do I start? I guess with the transfer to the ranch via a guided boat trip on the Rupununui River, which was packed with a myriad of birds. Jerry our guide for our stay ws...

We felt like family friends from the moment we arrived. Andrea and Salvador are warm, welcoming and caring hosts, the food is excellent and the surroundings are beautiful. Boat and vehicle trips with really skilled and knowledgeable guides enabled us to see giant otters, giant anteater, several species of monkey, tayra, tree boa, caiman, and so many birds. We also...

Karanambu remains as beautiful and welcoming as I found it when I first visited twenty years ago. Andrea and Salvador de Caires have done a super job of retaining the old-world charm of one of Guyana's most historic ranches, while at the same time ensuring that the facilities meet modern comfort standards, with spacious, airy and well-appointed chalets. The excellent...

We were most welcomed from our first step at Karanambu Ranch. We had our first (of many) rum punches and sat down to a delicious meal. Our rooms were rustic and clean with even toothpaste, toothbrush, large soap, repellent, calamine lotion, skin lotion, water, mosquito coils etc. The Kitchen staff were amazing, waking up to fresh brewed coffee, eggs any...

Karanambu Ranch is a really special place and despite its remoteness, relatively easy to get to by plane or boat. Andrea and Salvador were excellent hosts; Andrea's direction in the kitchen meant we ate extremely well. Diane was suffering from flu but still managed to make us welcome. Assistant Manager Jerry accompanied us on our trips down the river and...

We had a fantastic time at the Ranch. We were with a group of 8 travelling around the area and had probably our best time here. The hospitality was exceptional - Salvador and Andrea really looked after us and nothing was too difficult to arrange. Diane was obviously also terrific at keeping us all entertained with her stories as outlined...

We stayed in the lodge on the 2nd and 3rd nights of our honeymoon. We flew to the very basic airstrip and were picked up by Salvador, Simpson and Darwin they were to be our guides for our trips and took us by ancient landrover and boat to the lodge. Just that trip was a bit of an adventure. We...

My husband and I stayed at Karanambu as part of a tour of Guyana. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The accommodation is basic, but you visit for the wildlife spotting opportunities. If you want 5 star luxury go elsewhere. We loved the boat tours and spotted many birds, monkeys, caiman and were lucky to see Giant Otters in...

The hut's bedroom ceilings became alive with screeching, peeing bats -all night long. Cockroaches in the 4" size dropped from the ceiling even in the dining hut. No rehabbed giant otters there in many years and after searching for three days we still never saw one in the wild. We made plans to be there specifically when Diane, the owner,...

Unfortunately we hadn't allowed for more than a night here at the end of our trip, don't make the same mistake! Diane was away but Salvador & Andrea are wonderful hosts. It's funny how much the manager's personality can affect the customer experience but it was extremely positive all round here. We saw more wildlife, slept more comfortably, ate more...

“I was on the extreme edge of the ranch and the views towards the mountains were just gorgeous.”
  • View from the cabin on the edge
  • Rustic, yes. But huge and comfy
  • From the porch looking in. Those windows have no glass and the blinds only closed with effort.
  • Outer porch, note the hammock.
