We booked a weekend stay at the Charles Cotton Hotel so that we could go walking in the Peak District. The website had raised our expectation, which was soon deflated on arrival. Our room was in the stable block and was far below the standard that the price had intimated. The décor was rather tired and the one bathrobe provided...

We stayed at the Charles Cotton hotel in Hartington last weekend for our daughter's wedding, as we were a relatively small party of 50 guests, this hotel suited our requirements. A few gathered at the hotel on Friday evening for an intimate evening meal of close family. On arrival we were taken to our rooms which were light and airy,...

Stayed here in September for one night. The room was large and spacious but certainly lacked many touches that would warrant the price of the rooms at this hotel. The shower was pathetic and it was very hard to rinse off - i expect a good power shower in a decent hotel. The bathrobes were cheap synthetic fabric and the...

We decided to have afternoon tea, after seeing advertisements in various magazines, mistake #1, very unfriendly staff , a member of staff was sitting at the bar eating her lunch and chatting to the other waitress, she served us, eventually, no friendly greeting or chat, surly, and when I wanted a water refill they were nowhere to be seen and...

Wow! what a fabulous weekend we had at the Charles Cotton hotel in beautiful Hartington. It was our first time at this hotel although we had visited the area several times. Throughout our stay we found the staff helpful and attentive and our room was nicely quiet, tastefully furnished and clean. We followed our first long country walk around this...

We stayed at the Charles Cotton Hotel last weekend as a party of 17 for our daughter’s wedding (the wedding took place elsewhere). We booked the hotel’s standard weekend package for all our guests, which included two nights dinner, bed, and breakfast. On booking, we asked if we could have a reduced rate given that firstly, we were such a...

Dear Lynn . In response to your interesting review first of all we are sorry that you have had to make your extensive views public all which are in our opinion most unfounded. First of all you stated that you had booked a weekend package but on your confirmation it had been agreed that one night booked was dbb for...

We ate in the Bistro at the end of a great walk in the area. On entering the hotel, the greeting was friendly despite us still being in our walking kit. We both had excellent meals. The service was quick and friendly (especially Alex!). We will go back.

This was a random pick for a two night stay on our road trip. It was a beautiful place in a charming village with safe parking around the back. The room was delightfully decorated, the breakfast lovely and the bar very warming. The only thing that let it down was that on the second night there was a wedding party....

Etched into the glass around the door are signs welcoming walkers, and immediately below are signs asking for muddy boots to be removed. Now that is perfectly fine, but it does rather create an impression that walkers are welcome, just not that much. That is an impression which Is reflected in reality. We arrived fairly soggy after a long days...

We recently stayed overnight at the Charles Cotton Hotel on their 'Sunday Stopover' deal which was great value. We stopped in room 4 which is the suite and it was a fabulous room with a huge bathroom overlooking the square at the front. We loved looking round the village and enjoyed a couple of drinks sat outside in the sunshine...
