Cozy hut in the middle of wilderness, still next to to main road. Excellent Service, great atmosphere. Reasonable price, freedom to be and feel. Visited with friend, next time this could be my solo travel place.
Tunturikeimiö (aka Keimiötunturin Maja or Keimiön Maja) is situated next to Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park, Keimioniemi Fishing Cabins and Keimiotunturi Fell. All of these are "the must" sights for everyone who visits Muonio. So the location of Tunturikeimiö is very good although it seems to be situated in the outback. There are good hiking trails in summer and cross-country skiing tracks (250 kilometers!) in winter. Air quality is the best in Europe! Besides, there is a bus stop only 300-400 meters from Tunturikeimiö. There is a daily bus connection from Rovaniemi and an airport taxi from Kittilä (you must order it the day before). Tunturikeimiö is situated by the small pond named Naistenlampi (the pond of women) and it is maintained by YWCA. However, everybody is welcomed here. I stayed here with my son. The main building is called Maja. There is a small souvenir shop and a restaurant there. Rooms in Maja are for three people (one bed and one bunk bed). There aren't own toilets and showers in these rooms. The other building is called Kieppi. There are small (12 square meters) double rooms with toilets there. There are saunas, showers and a kitchenette there which are common to all. Tunturikeimiö also has two cottages called Kivitasku and Takatasku. They are situated right on the pond shore and they are the best way to enjoy accommodation in Tunturikeimiö, I think. We stayed overnight in the cottage named Kivitasku. There are two rooms there. One of them is 15 square meters and it has a bed, a sofa bed, a table with chairs and a fireplace. The other room is 8 square meters and it has two beds. There is a kitchenette with a tableware and an indoor composting toilet in Kivitasku. This dry toilet was the worst thing in Tunturikeimiö. It wasn't very pleasant. There isn't any incoming water in Kivitasku. You have to seek drinking water from the main building. Kivitasku is situated next to the pondside sauna which is common to all guests in Tunturikeimiö. Takatasku cottage is located alone about 200 meters from it. Takatasku is a small (26 square meters) log cabin for 5-6 persons. Two of the beds are bunk beds and one is a sofa bed. There are a fireplace, a kitchenette and an indoor composting toilet in Takatasku but no incoming water. A breakfast and a dinner aren't included in basic prices but they are available during the high season. Bedclothes and towels aren't included in prices either but you can rent them if you want. The hiking trail to Keimiötunturi Fell starts from the courtyard of Tunturikeimiö (100 meters from the Lapp hut and then to the left). It is about 2.6 kilometers from the courtyard to the peak of Keimiötunturi. The path is very deep and there may be fallen trees on the trail in some places. So it takes time to get there. Otherwise the trail is quite easy (no rocks etc.). Views are fabulous and absolutely worth of hiking. It takes 2-3 hours to get on the top and then come back the same trail. We also walked to see historical Keimiöniemi fishing cabins. It is about 3 kilometers in one direction along a road. And after all these hikes and walks it was wonderful to have a sauna and swim in the pond. I have to say that we had a very wonderful time in Tunturikeimiö. This is a great place for everyone who wants to be close to nature.…
