A night in Aurora Dome is a unique way to experience the nature. The comfortable Dome is a perfect place to enjoy the magical winter scenery of lake Torassieppi lit by the northern lights. The Aurora Dome is a round igloo-shaped tent with husky and reindeer themed decoration and one transparent wall.

As islanders living on the equator, everything was amusing to us when we were in Finland. We get to fetch our own wood, start a fireplace and keep the fire going to stay warm. Torassieppi winter village made our stay truly memorable - still can remember vividly despite only writing this review after more than half a year.

We were glad we chose to stay in the Aurora Domes and we were not disappointed even-though we did not get to see the Aurora borealis due to heavy cloud cover during our time there. Our stay was fantastic as we can watch people go ice fishing, husky and reindeer sledding, and snowmobiling from the Aurora domes itself. I believe that our stay would be more spectacular if the northern lights were visible then.

The domes had an electric heating lamp which was good so you don't have to keep your fireplace lit all the time. And if need be, there is an "emergency room" for you to sleep in if the domes get too cold (which I believe would not be an issue). It was very beautifully decorated and cosy so it's perfect for a romantic stay - except there's no curtains for privacy (but I don't think anyone could see the bed area as it is slightly above ground and surrounded by deep snow).

However, there is no toilet and shower in the domes but it was alright for us and a great experience nonetheless.

Would definitely recommend choosing to stay in the Aurora domes!

We booked the domes for two nights (giving us one full day at the dome) prior to going on a Xmas tour. Initially we had a problem, as we booked 12 months in advance, then two weeks out, the resort advise us they have taken a private booking & have closed the restaurant & all tours to others, so now we have to go stay in a cabin in Jeris, but could come & stay one night (arriving after dinner & returning on waking up - all in the dark...). I resisted... a lot.... after much back & forth, we came to an agreement 4 days before we left, that we would eat dinner at Jeris each night & they would take us to the Dome afterward to sleep, they relented... allowed us to have breakfast at dome restaurant (but we had to go at 8 am when it opened... as they were busy...) & arranged to pack lunch boxes for us on the only whole day we were there so we could stay at Torrasieppi during the day, then a car took us back to Jeris in the afternoon... where we amused ourselves til dinner (they did give us a cabin at Jeris to use in the meantime). Then we were taken back to the dome to sleep. I bought the northern lights app, but as we didn't have WIFI, we didn't get the alarm & missed the northern lights... luckily they came out another two times while we were there on our tour, so we didn't miss out. If you get the app, and don't have WIFI, set it up to send you a text, which I later found out you could do.... so with all the negativity... we were concerned we would be treated poorly, but when we got there, the staff knew nothing about the drama. There didn't seem to be heaps of people & the breakfast restaurant was empty while we were there save for 2-3 other families at most. We saw no one walking around when we were out making a snowman & walking n the lake... not sure what the problem was... in spite of all that... our review whilst there...

The domes are beautifully decorated and have a log fire and there was also a gas heater there. They gave us a complementary very small bottle of sparkling wine on arrival and two bottles of juice for our girls. The toilets were quite a walk away, but we knew about it & managed it with the girls (5&6 years). The girls had two fold out beds set up for them against the window which was quite cold, so I pulled them in closer to middle of room at night, to get away from wall of Dome. One of the beds had a slat missing in the middle and our daughter kept falling through the gap, so I had to use a spare pillow to wedge in the gap as a makeshift fix.
The domes are made of a heavy duty plastic and overlook a frozen lake (if its winter). While there is lots of condensation you can still mostly see out the window. We walked out over the lake, made a snowman and made snow cones with the snow and our complimentary juice.
They told us there was no electricity in the domes before we got there, but there were two bedside night lights, a light in the entrance where you hang your jackets etc.
They gave us heaps of wood but it is only pine, so we did have to get up every 1-2 hours to restoke the fire, so it wouldn't go out. There was no fridge and no water in the dome so take your own...
We didn't do any of the tours (cause we weren't allowed & cause we were doing a lot in our planned tour anyway) so we took the opportunity to just chill out.
The breakfast was reasonable, but the staff were very friendly & helpful.
Overall... very glad we pushed to be able to stay at the Domes, despite the fact they tried to push us out, we still enjoyed our stay & would recommend the experience.

We arrived late at night without a reservation, looking for a place to stay. In the end, we ended up having the best night ever. First because of friendly staff, who did everything to make our stay pleasant. The girl even turned on the sauna just for us at 11pm. The cottage rooms are brand new and clean. The breakfast was delicious and they even organized a northern lights show above the lake for us (hahaha), so this place is absolutely perfect for watching aurora.
Highly recommend this place!:)

4 domes available on site as well as various cabins. Each cabin has a slightly different them but they are delightful. The log fire is simple and very effective. The view is ok although if the Northern Lights are not directly in the viewing area the view may be ineffective (we did not witness them on night we stayed in the dome) Biggest drawback is the walk of 50mtrs or so to the shower block and toilets, normally wouldn't be an issue but at -20 degrees in the middle of the night, not good. The entrance has a lockable wooden door which is tricky to operate but allows the security of belongings (and probably a fix as a result of some negative comments on this site). Staff at the centre are very pleasant and helpful and the food in the small restaurant is delicious and plentiful.

Joined the 8D7N Best of Lapland programme, upgraded the 1st night to the aurora dome for a surcharge of 240 Euros. After arriving Kittilä airport, was transferred and dropped off there directly.

There are only 4 domes which make it feel special and pretty exclusive. Just love the cozy decor and thoughtful details. The decor in each dome is slightly different. Bedding is comfy. The log burner will heat up the tent very quickly and just 1 round of log is sufficient for the whole night. At first I was worried and did 2 rounds of fire before bed and it got way too hot I actually had to open the door for a good 10 mins to air it out. Could charge my mobiles and camera in the dome. Wifi only in the main building, I had local data sim so not a problem for me. Complimentary small bottle of sparkling wine. It was so nice waking up in the morning with the view.

Wish the dome was ready a little bit earlier as I arrived the place very early before 10am and although everyone had checked out the domes by then, the tents were only ready at 3pm so I had to wait in the resto area until then. The staff did make sure that I checked in as soon as it was ready. Also not ensuite so a few mins walk to the toilet and shower.

I did have an issue that the door could not be locked as I had no choice but to leave all my camera, laptop, passport and money in there, it was simply not practical to carry all of these whenever I had to leave the dome (to go for dinner or shower or for a walk). I moved everything to my handcarry suitcase and lock it but the whole thing can be taken by anyone easily. I understand it is a safe country and a safe area but you just never know. Also I was travelling solo and really didn't like the idea that anyone can just open the door and enter at night. Doesn't seem to be difficult to make the door lockable.

The domes are based in Torassieppi, where the reindeer farm, Winter Village with the ice bars and rooms are based so can visit these, not much other facilities otherwise. Restaurant is much smaller than Harriniva and Jeris. Pretty sure they can arrange all the activities as with Harriniva or Jeris since they are all part of the same group. The activities are awesome and I had reviewed them separately.

Despite the few issues, it was still a special and memorable stay and I do recommend staying for a night for the experience.
