I experienced three nights of friendly service excellent food and complete tranquility I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to go back in time ,it was so peaceful that I had to set the alarm to ensure that I did not over sleep, I could just get a mobile signal in the room but on the green...

This is a pub of great character bordering on the quirky. Before I even went in I was greeted by a pet sheep, Rosie, belonging to some customers. She was playing football in the lane outside in between being fed Prosecco out of a glass. The standard of her footwork deteriorated as the evening progressed. There is a very traditional...

Paid £18 for a steak that should have been rare and was medium to well done which in itself was very disappointing, there were no onion rings present however they were on the menu, also they had not let the steak rest so the plate was watery - making the chips soggy, in addition the peas were like bullets. HUGE...

We had a one night stay, attending a birthday bash near bye, arrived lunch time settled in, fantastic lunch of steak and kidney pud, plus a few libations! Great friendly staff, and cosy bedroom. Having such a good time nearly forgot the part purpose of our visit. Can't wait to return.

We booked a 4-day stay at The Duke of York recently as it was our Golden Wedding Anniversary and we both wanted to stay in one of our favourite places for part of our celebrations. Our very genial host, John, obligingly organised it so we could have our favourite room and not only that, upon discovering their had been some...

We stayed here for 2nights and wish it had been more. It is not the swankiest place but more than made up for it with the friendliest of staff and owners. We asked for a ground floor room and was given the cottage a cross the road. It was old fashioned but if you put modern furniture in it would...

I have been enjoying the delights of the "Duke" for over thirty years, and it has changed little in that time, still offering that old traditional Devon country pub atmosphere without the annoying fruit machines and distracting music. It can get busy lunchtimes if you want to eat in the bar area, so best, if you haven't booked a table...

Visiting friends nearby my girlfriend and I, aware of the inns link to Warhorse and Michael Morpurgo, jumped at the opportunity to stay at The Duke. If you're expecting a museum dedicated to the author or the book then I regret to say that you'll be let down. Yes, there is the odd poster and a few posters dotted about...
