Booked into this place for a night over, having walked in from Wetwang and walking onwards to Kirbymoorside the following day. Parking included and the staff were excellent in helping out in directions and finding the car park. Twin room, whilst not 5 star, it covered the basics and the shower was excellent. A welcome stop, that served good drinks later after venturing out for something to eat.

Not a very nice place to be.
Felt uncomfortable, staff abusive and place is extremely dirty inside. Only called in for a drink but would never wish to return to the place. Malton has much nicer, welcoming places.

My friend and I were staying in Malton for a wedding and needed somewhere budget friendly to stay. The New Globe came up as the best option for us location and price wise with the ceremony and reception venues just a few minutes walk.

We arrived about 1900hrs on the Friday evening after travelling a long way. We picked up our keys from the bar and headed upstairs to the room. We tried to put the lights on but the lamp didn't work and neither did the main light! We went back downstairs to the bar to talk to someone about the issue and they very begrudgingly moved us to another room where the lamp was broken again! But at least the main light worked. The way we looked at it, we knew we weren't going to spend much time in the room and it was just somewhere to put our heads for the night but there are a few things that just weren't up to standard:

Dust on top of stuff like sockets and the kettle - This is basic!
Cracked sinks
Shared toilet that was like something out of a horror film, complete with crackling light bulb, filthy toilet brush and carpeted floor. You just pray that the other clients are good at aiming...
Sticky, unclean feeling carpet
Cigarette burns in the bedding!
And a rude wake up from the cleaner on the morning of your departure.

Do I think that the pub will read this and care? In a nutshell, no. I get the vibe that they don't care full stop which is why there are so many bad reviews. It seems to be the same kind of complaints over and over yet nothing has been rectified.

So in short, amazing location but massively let down by an establishment that makes you feel like you staying with them is a burden. Avoid where possible!

What can one add to what has gone previously. Positives. The breakfast is lovely assuming you hit the 30 minute window they allow you to eat it in. The family are a lovely friendly bunch.
The rooms are up a staircase were the bannister comes away from the wall.
Rooms are sparse, dirty and literally crumbling. The sink is propped to the wall by planks of wood.

Paint peeling, carpet rotting. Despite it being October, radiator turned off and wouldn't come on. Bathroom advisably best avoided and that toilet.....

We stayed here for one night in September 2013. First the good points: Nice breakfast. Nice town and we ate at a great restaurant - the new malton.
Now the rest.
The accomodation is basic - that's fine. We weren't expecting luxury. But we were expecting things to be clean. The shared bathroon was very unpleasant. Mould all over the walls, on the ceiling, a shower head tied on as it had broken through age and an actual shower with terrible water pressure. My wife says she felt less clean after the shower than before. There was carpet on the floor - yuck. Regularly wetted carpet isn't nice. No hooks for towels or clothes.
Then the room. The mattress is on it's last legs and the springs can be clearly felt beneath but it was OK in the end. A headboard that was possibly clean but could be described as 'manky'. The sink is held up by two bits of 2x2 wood. There was a thick layer of dust on the wardrobe top and the furniure is old and dated (such that a charity shop would probably not bother with it) but was perfectly functional. Another thick dust layer on the soap dispenser in the room and a windowsill with about 50% peeling paint loss. In turning on my bedside lamp, I found it to be unplugged and the socket replaced by a blackberry charger someone had left behind. I removed this carefully as I'm not sure how well fixed to the wall the sockets were.
Then there is the shared toilet - probably the nadir. A long corridor like room for the loo but no washbasin - and a small vanity sink could be accomodated. So - that means dirty bacteria covered hands after every use all over the handle and lock (which was a naff little sliding bolt type), followed by the same on the room keys (?!) before you can get to the bedroom sink and wash it all off. Given the standard of cleanliness elsewhere I bet they don't clean the handles and keys.
Whilst the breakfast was good in the pub part, as another reviewer has said it was odd with the owners 5 year old sitting watching the kids telly. We're used to that as our kids are that age but don't expect the Tweenies when we're away!
They didn't ask us what we thought - which was good as I don't like lying. I think they know how bad their rooms really are.

I did not actually stay a night. However i was there tonight to watch the football match with a group of friends. We had bought drinks so were paying customers. My partner and a friend had accidentally, apparently gotten in the way a tiny bit, of one of two tv screens with the match on. The landlord asked them to move, but before they got a chance to he had stood up and started manhandling one of them out of the pub, physically pushing him out of the pub with a great deal of force. I do not find this good behaviour, from a landlord, to a paying customer, when he hadnt given my friend much opportunity to move, before being physical and throwing him out, even though we had bought a large round of drinks, just because the landlord was not very happy with the football match and my friend was the easy target. He would have happily moved if he had the opportunity as he was there to watch the match aswell. I do not recommend this place, for even one drink with such behaviour.

Stayed here for two nights as was working in the area. Missed breakfast first morning as had to leave by 8.30am and they wouldn't serve me early and no refund. Had breakfast second morning as didn't want to end up paying again. It was ok, basic but overall ok. Was late for work though so not happy about that.
The room was sparse and as about as dated as I've seen. I'm pretty sure the bedspreads were older than me! The shower was functional although held on with a cable tie. The walls were paper thin, so thin in fact that I could hear one couple to the left enjoying the 'advantage of being in a relationship' and the otherside's tv till late then in the early hours. The karaoke being sung on both nights under my bed didn't help and if you try to drown this out with the tv, make sure your not a fidget as one wrong move and the signal disappears.
I understand you get what you pay for and being on a tight budget I have stayed in many cheap and unsavoury places, but at £48 a night I foolishly expected more. I won't be back and will be sticking to the Travelodges in future!

Found by accident, but once through the wrought iron gate almost concealed withing the high sculpture hedging right on the main road, we loved the place. It was quiet and clean and the Gentleman who was there was very kind and attentive to our dogs needs , fresh water etc and even helped my wife , who has quite a severe disability with walking and getting over steps etc. The outdoor seating was clean and good parasols for protection from the very hot weather that was present all week 13-20th July. We went 2 or three times and each time , the smile from staff was there and the beer was the same . Great John Smiths . Will go again in September when we return to the area.

It was the most disappointed stay in my experience. Firstly when we arrived nobody even new that room was booked so I had to prove it. I mentioned to the lady who showed our room that we paid for breakfast too and that we leaving early at 8 am. She said it's not problem and she will make sandwiches for us and leave them near our door at 7.30 am. But we didn't get anything next morning, nor could we find anybody in the building.
Another disappointment was the room itself and facilities. Everything had a smoke smell in spite it should be smoke-free and I found ashes in the teapot too. Also there was a lot of dirt on the floor and I even wanted to clean it myself, but the staff didn't know where brush is so couldn't give me one. The TV in the room was smaller than my pc monitor and remote didn't work. Teas and coffees tray in the room had out-of date cookies and only one spoon. There were no even one bath towel in the room. The sink was cracked and cold water tap leaking. Heater was put really hot and not adjustable so we had to open window (old wooden frame with single shaking glass). It resulted in more smoke coming in from the people smoking outside and we couldn't sleep half night because of loud noise from busy road too. There was no wi-fi in the room despite of description on the website.
Overall impression is that nobody knew or cared about our stay, we didn't get service and products I paid and was expecting.
