Visited in a party of 34 for a Christmas lunch and I cannot praise them enough. The organisation and serving of all the meals was first class! The meals were excellent, I opted for the traditional lunch whilst my wife had the salmon both cooked to perfection. The serving staff were helpful cheerful and extremely efficient. We will definitely add this restaurant to our "returns" list.

This review is firstly about the pub/restaurant and secondly the hotel The pub/restaurant serves a good selection of excellent food at reasonable prices. Service was quick and friendly. The customers are a mixed bunch of folk including families with dogs. I would happily eat here again. The hotel (we were in the annexe) provides simple clean accommodation and was a welcome change from Premier Inns. The wifi was very quick and only required login once. Breakfast was included in the price, a good selection of hot and cold food, also with friendly staff. Altogether an excellent experience

Definitely gets 5 stars and more. Popped in early doors with our beagle Rosie. Very welcoming, lovely and clean, oak tables, good beer and the food. Wow. Chicken salad for me with coleslaw, the best I have ever tasted and hubby had the Yorkshire Pudding pulled beef wrap with peas and new spuds. He said it was amazing and so tasty. Thank you. We will be back.

Myself, mother in law and son had a fantastic 3 night stay here. Room was spotless and beds super comfy. Kettle in room and lots of tea, coffee, milk etc outside room for you to top up when needed. Also spare towels and toilet rolls. Saves you having to ask staff for more. Food was amazing. I’ve never tasted steak and ale pie like it so hats off to the chef. Fabulous breakfast in the morning too. The staff are lovely and very attentive couldn’t do enough for you. We stayed here as we were visiting Flamingo Land which isn’t far away and also visited York. Staff recommended we use Park and Ride which was great and saved us driving into City Centre and paying extortionate parking prices. Will definitely return to the Ham and Cheese on our next visit to York.

We were initially going to stay in the car park in our motor home. We had two wonderful meals, huge portions! The staff & the locals made us very welcome. We enjoyed a lovely evening, then went to bed down for the night. Unfortunately our motor home was stuck in reverse. The staff & local people came out to help, one of which was a mechanic who said we needed breakdown service. The landlady offered to let us use the landline as the signal was a bit unreliable. & she moved her vehicles to give us a clear run for the breakdown truck. We can’t thank everyone enough for their help. We were picked up by midnight & brought home. We are just sorry that we were not able to have breakfast there this morning before our journey home today as we had planned. However, we will be returning & once again will enjoy the great hospitality & fantastic food at this wonderful pub. Thank you so much Nikki & Gary Hall 👍

Stayed here 1 June for one night after Flamingo Land with my grandchildren. First class service for food, and a warm welcome. Rooms are clean and beds very comfortable. We stayed in a family room with a huge king sized bed and 3 singles, plenty of room for everyone. The evening meal was lovely, and not expensive. The breakfast included in the price was also lovely. It is a very short drive from Flamingo Land so ideal for a stop over. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.
