While the building has a lot of history attached to it there was part of the "old" we did not like. Our room was lovely and large but the floor was sloped into the middle, this made it unsteady to walk around the bed on one side and difficult to get out of bed on the other. If you are not good with stairs beware there is no lift and we suffered by being on the 3rd floor!! They also take in dogs and the one next to us did a lot of barking in the room as the owners had left it alone. I had to increase my allergy medication while there :(. On the other side of the coin, most of the staff are very friendly and always spoke while serving you. The food was good and large portions. Evening meal was a bit of a trial with a few things unavailable on the menu, but what we had was lovely. The place was clean wherever you went. Overall we did enjoy our time there, but would need a lower floor if we went again:))

The hotel looks out over open countryside but is, in reality, only a few minutes walk from the centre of Malton. When we arrived we were shown into what must be one of the best rooms in the place: four poster bed, bay windows looking out over the meadows, fluffy bathrobes in the bathroom ..... and very noisy radiators. We tried turning them off, to no avail. We reported them to the front desk and the young man on duty came and bled them - twice. To no avail. So he immediately offered us another room, which was very pleasant, but no four poster bed, bay windows, fluffy bathrobes ...... but no noisy radiators either. As it turned out, it was also very comfortable. We stayed two nights but only ate in the hotel one evening. Our starters, chicken liver parfait and smoked haddock scotch egg were hearty, well presented and tasty. Our main course, chalk stream trout with brown crab risotto was excellent, though perhaps too much. I say ‘perhaps’ but we both finished it! My companion then had a chocolate orange mousse but I could only manage ice cream, again both were very good. The morning of our departure was very busy as the staff had an hotel full of guests plus the preparations for a champagne and oyster bar in the grounds as part of the Malton Food Festival to deal with. The did so admirably. Also the cost of the wine we had for dinner the previous evening was deducted from our bill as compensation for having to move rooms. So our stay was not without incident, but the staff handled things well.

The hotel is really nice. Beautiful decor. Nice room, comfy bed and great shower plus nice little touches in the rooms to make guests feel welcome. Breakfast was great with good fresh local produce well cooked. Malton Food Festival was in full swing so the town was busy. We had booked a local Italian restaurant for the first night ( that’s a different and very underwhelming story !) and decided to play it by ear on the second. It might be the food capital of Yorkshire during the day but after 5pm trying to find somewhere nice to eat or have a drink is almost impossible as everything that looked like a foodie venue closes in the evening. So on night two we ate in the hotel bar. Very disappointing fish and chips. Everyone around us seemed to be complaining about the food and sending stuff back. Ours was edible but not wonderful and we felt so sorry for the waiter who was taking the rap for the chef that we just shut up and put up. A few minor cleanliness issues in the bathroom that could be solved with a bit of elbow grease and a drop of bleach !! All in all nice hotel with nice staff but would not hurry to return for food

Lovely hotel, very welcoming & attentive staff & extremely comfortable bedroom. Felt at ease as soon as we arrived for our 1 night stay. Both dinner & breakfast - both excellent. Wish we could have stayed longer but will be back. Definitely recommend

We recently had a couples afternoon tea at The Talbot. I am saddened to have to post this review to report how disappointed we were with both the poor quality of the food and more so the lack of service. The sandwiches were bland and not many of them and there were only fruit scones which my husband doesn't like. We were given 2 small pots of tea but during our visit we were not asked if we needed anything else and had to go searching for a member of staff to ask for more tea. It could be so much better with a little more care. We've had much better afternoon tea elsewhere and won't be going back here for one again.

Stayed for 2 nights - room 17, it needs a privacy blind in the window, the room overlooks the garden and gets the afternoon sun. It was very warm in the room, so the only option was to open window but then you had traffic noise. On checkout, another guest had an issue and we were checked out without anyone even asking if we had enjoyed our stay. However, despite this the breakfast was excellent & we would stay again if in the area. customer service just needs fine tuned

We have stayed at other Coaching Inn Group hotels and the Talbot Arms was up to the standard of the other hotels. We would recommend looking at Coaching Inn Group if you are planning at trip in the UK.

The staff are amazing and great with dogs. The facilities and little extras you get in the room are so special. The bed was so comfortable! Food is excellent! Cannot fault it here, will definitely be back soon.

Rubbish! dirty rooms obviously can’t get good cleaning staff tried two different rooms second one was worst than the first and these rooms were charged out at £180 per night, we were offered a complementary stay but why would you want more of that, living off its past glory , sorry will not be returning ☹️
