We had a wonderful 2 nights with Lee and Pen in the middle of our two week New Zealand experience. The accommodations and food were simply stunning but most amazing was how Lee and Pen made us feel like we were staying with long lost friends for a few days. Lee arranged a fantastic day trip for us into Abel...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Split Apple Retreat for two nights and really wish we were there longer. We did a whole New Zealand trip (North and South Island) and in total stayed in about 10 or 11 different hotels and Split Apple was my favorite. Lee and Pen and are kind and welcoming. They are also both informative,...

We had a great stay at the Split Apple retreat at the beginning of February. It is nestled on a hill overlooking Marahau bay and Abel Tasman Nationalpark. We had the Fuji suite with an Onsen type bathroom, little terrace and its own hidden platform with sundeck chairs. Lee and Pen are great hosts and the food prepared by Pen...

My husband and I had the privilege of spending two nights at the Split Apple Retreat during our tour of New Zealand. Although every lodge was magnificent, the Split Apple stay is one that will remain with me. Lee and Penn are delightful hosts and the lodge is luxurious and impeccably decorated with museum-quality Asian art. However I found the...

It had been two years since we first stayed at the Split Apple. I had forgotten how nice perfection can be. The Split Apple has excellent and healthy cuisine, outstanding views, personalized hospitality with first class furnishings and is surrounded by the most tranquil setting anywhere. Love this place!

We will not soon forget our time at Split Apple. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel so welcome by Lee and his lovely wife, Pen. Their Japanese inspired home is exquisite, very open, airy and light, highlighted by an amazing art collection. The view from the deck of the Tasman Bay is spectacular at any...

Rarely do you get to feel as if you're staying with friends on holiday, but very soon into our stay, Lee & Pen welcomed us into their home and we definitely felt as if we were staying with friends albeit new ones. The retreat is spectacular, the setting is stunning above Split Apple Beach and the whole house is designed...

From the unbelievable views, to the outstanding food and wine, to the caring staff, it's like heaven on earth! They catered to my dietary restrictions and every meal was amazing ! Be sure to ask Lee about excursions in advance so you don't miss out on any opportunity. When they say "retreat", they mean it!

Stunning ambience, setting, tranquility, suites and food. Thats all that needs to be said!! Lee & Pen literally welcome you into their home and philosophy. We will certainly return. Do not miss the helicopter flight over and around Abel Tasman with Andrew who as well as a consumate pilot is a great aerial host.

Traveling to New Zealand Jan 16-27, 2017.... Decided to jump across to the northern tip of the South Island near Nelson and the Abel Tasman National Park.... Close friends and traveling companions suggested we stay at the Split Apple Retreat. We arrived mid day from the North and the retreat lined up a driver to carry us to lunch an...

Dear Global Nomad, We are happy to hear that we were recommended by one of your friends and travelling companions. There really is no stronger recommendation than that of a friend who has had a first-hand experience. The wineries and eateries on the way from the Nelson Airport to Split Apple are worth visiting especially with our knowledgeable guides, such...
