Not many extras! Nice cozy traditional (old school) hotel. Small but comfortable! Will be staying again, I am sure! Beautiful hotel and wonderful atmosphere. I could easily imagine I was travelling at the turn of the century and staying at a nice, dry, luxurious hotel and not sleeping in my wagon!

I had a really good time here. Firstly it should be remembered that these are old buildings. So the rooms are simple and small but that is part of the charm and what you sign up for e.g. Shared bathroom, no power sockets in room...or wifi (how did we ever survive before these necessaries?!) It is good to get away...

We stayed at Ma Johnsons. The room are very small. Just room for a bed and small night stand. Luggage is squeezed against the wall next to the bed. Internet is very slow. Shared showers and bathrooms. Across the street is a bar. Thursday night is open mic night. The crowd was out on the street until 2 am making...

Ma Johnson's Hotel in McCarthy is a wonderful step back in time. It has preserved the historical slice of life when the town was hustling and bustling. The Hotel is well appointed with artifacts as well as very friendly and accommodating staff. Everyone should visit McCarthy AK and when you do; you must stay at Ma Johnson's Hotel. 😉👍🏻👍🏻😉

If you want a unique experience in the wilds of Alaska...make reservations at the Ma Johnson and travel to McCarty and Kennecott Alaska. After driving down a 60 mile dirt road and crossing a footbridge...one is met by Kris, manager of the Ma Johnson Lodge. She was so helpful and informative about the hotel and the goings-on of the tiny...

Perhaps because we knew what to expect (Neil the owner actually called us to make sure we understood - an international call!) we found our experience at the hotel even better than we had hoped. We never had a problem using the bathrooms, found the beds very comfortable and charged our electronic devices while reading down in the lobby or...

ETal: Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel! We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. Sorry that no one picked up at breakfast that you would like toast - it is available, just not always on the buffet line. Glad to hear that the lunch issue was resolved, but it is unfortunate as we do...

Be sure to stop in at the Golden Saloon plus make reservations at the Bistro, Chef Chris' meal was over-the-top!! McCarthy town dates well back and so does this hotel. The furniture and decor have been kept as original as possible so the atmosphere is great and makes a change to not stay in a room that looks like every other around the globe. Staff were friendly and on call 24/7 via an intercom. Rooms were basic and small and...

Cute historic inn with shared bathrooms. Rooms are small if you have a lot of gear. Stairs are steep if you are injured or older. SUPER staff that were very friendly and helpful. The staff really make this place work. Comfortable beds and very clean. It's pricey for what you get but better than the alternatives in McCarthy. McCarthy is...

This is an historic hotel. Rooms are tiny and bathrooms are shared. There is no air conditioning. That being said, this is the finest lodging in McCarthy. Everything is clean and neat. The sitting room is very comfortable and has plenty of outlets to charge your electronics. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. This is a trip of a...
