Just across the street from a nice and clean beach club and the center of Ostia. You can have a good deal with the beach club if you are a hotel resident (the Hotel will book the daily entrance at the beach club for you at a lower rate). Very kind and professional hotel staff! Totally recommended!
Besides being one of the few hotels open in Ostia because it complies with all of the Covid-19 requisites, it is located at the heart of Ostia and the rooms are clean and relatively spacious. We stayed at the one for the handicapped and enjoyed the space we had at our disposal. The bed is comfortable, the pillows maybe a little hard but apparently orthopaedic. There is a little fridge where you can cool off your drinks. The air conditioning kicks in after a while after you have returned to the room. The staff is very competent and efficient. Prices are very reasonable and they have special prices for 2 local beach operations.
I had already stayed at Hotel La Scaletta during my journey to my homeplace. The hotel is located by the seaside and it is close to the lively centre of the town. Especially in summer it is functional and comfortable if you want to spend some time by the sea.
Some of the eating places on the Lungomare are a bit overpriced except of course MacDonalds. There is a very good Chinese about ten minutes walk away. Friendly, efficient, expert non intrusive staff. Excellent position on the front. Ostia is Roma by the sea and reminds me of England with its short pier.Disregard any bad mafia publicity you might come across Ostia is safe and quiet for most of the year while La Scaletta is a first rate place to stay unless you are looking for a super deluxe five star hotel.
I spent two nights at La Scaletta with my spouse and liked the location, staff and services provided but found the room rather dismal. The location of the hotel is great. There are several restaurants nearby, the airport is only about 15 minutes away by car and one can reach the main bus/train station by foot in 10 minutes or so. The hotel has a deal with a private beach resort some 2 km away, easily reachable by a local bus. They told us that the bus is free and we acted accordingly, but in reality one should buy a ticket and validate it on the bus (the driver doesn’t say anything if you don’t). The beach deal was excellent: with 5 € per day per person we got beach towels from the hotel and at the resort a private cabin with a shower and a lockable door, in addition to sunbeds and a beach umbrella. The resort had a kiosk and a restaurant (okay food, a bit pricy) but you could also bring your own food. The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave good advice when we asked. We needed to drop off our rental car at the airport and then come back to the hotel, and they advised us that there is a local bus that takes you to the main bus station (traveltime about 40 minutes). The bus stop was not where all other buses leave from at the airport, so make sure to double-check the busline’s name and the location of the bus stop. The hotel also offers a shuttle service directly to the airport, but you need to book it at least 24 hours in advance. The room we had a was a bit of a disappointment. We knew that it would be tiny, but discovered that the bathroom was even tinier. Even though neither of us is particularly tall or long-limbed, we struggled to take a shower without constantly banging against the cubicle walls. Our room was one of the few that had a balcony (nice view to the beach opposite and sunset), but the downside was that right below there was a McDonald’s, open until the wee hours (noise and grease smell). The room felt a bit damp and the fridge was tiny and warm. There was a major issue with ants, as they were all over two of the walls. In spite of sleeping with the window and balcony door closed, on both mornings we woke up with itchy insect bites that took a couple of weeks to heal. Luckily the problem wasn’t the kind that follows one home (we took precautions with the luggage and checked our bed back home for signs for a week afterwards just in case). To sum up, this hotel is adequate if you need a place to crash while enjoying what Lido di Ostia has to offer.…
