The real campsite with family and friendly spirit. We are received by Michelle and Olivier the managers almost as if we were family with simplicity and authenticity. They are very accommodating, listening to their customers (and their daughter at the restaurant too). The location on the banks of the Tarn and crossed by Stevenson's path, is very resourceful. We come back to it regularly. See you soon Stephanie

Most of the camping in this region is of the two-star variety, but don't let that put you off. Camping Chantemerle has no swimming pool - instead you can swim in the river Tarn, where you can also see a family of Beavers swim each evening. The reception/shop is open 8am to midnight, and Nicole is a mine of information in many languages. Local beer, wine, jams etc are delicious. The restaurant serves a small menu of excellent food. Pizzas and salads are particularly good, and again local produce is in abundance. Most pitches are generous in size. The real magic is the scenery and the quiet. No 'Brits abroad' here. Absolutely magical.

A week before our arrival date, we had booked and then, according to their telephone recommendation, canceled the same afternoon. The Chantemerle campsite collected the full amount from us (105€ for 1 night with half board for 2 people). We received an email stating that the cancellation has been taken into account. We are waiting for the reimbursement but they do not want to reimburse us on the pretext that the reimbursement can be made if we warn 1 month in advance.

campsites and well placed for hikers Stevenson (GR70), personale nice, but very bad value for money!
50€ the 1⁄2 board for a tent to share with 8 people (!!!). Completely uncomfortable mattress covered in plastic and rather gross meal (frozen steak veg). As a vegetarian, I've never eaten worse!

Attention, you book a bungalow for 98 euros through Booking.com and get a tent for 72 euros. Note that there is no bathroom. The operator did not respond to any objections. We left early the following day. The sanitary facilities leave a lot to be desired.

Had 2 great nights camping here en route through the Cevenne hills to the south of France. Picturesque, quiet & great facilities....even wifi at the reception. Swimming in the river either from their own little private beach or from the rocks. We ate both nights at their little on site restaurant; which did great food & wine at good prices.
Will stay again...well worth the extra couple of miles drive from Florac.

This campsite really was one of the most unpleasant and dare I say it, dangerous we have experienced in the many years we have been camping in France. First it was unpleasant due to the apparent uncaring attitude of the owners/staff toward the upkeep and cleanliness of the toilets (including a toilet with a broken seat – see picture), showers (no hot water here) and washing up (no hot water) facilities (see pictures). The campsite was quite full, but about half of the toilets and showers (sanitaires) were locked up, many of those that were not were in a state of poor repair and unclean. Dangerous, because at night there was no outside lighting around the shower toilet area and we watched in horror a disabled lady trying to negotiate the rough path made up of loose boulders put together in a most haphazard manner (see picture). She would surely of had a serious fall if she had attempted it at night. The pitches were uneven with a steep slope on most of them. When we selected a pitch in front of the sanitaire we went back to the reception, the owner stated we couldn’t go there as our 7m motorhome was too big and would block the view from behind (i.e. the sanitaire), we disagreed with her and she finally allowed us to use the pitch. Like all the others, it was uneven and sloping badly and the grass was extremely long (see picture), another indication that this site is not loved by the owners, but indicates they are only in this business it for the money and not prepared to carry out essential maintenance on a campsite that should be a pleasure to visit. They claim in the ACSI guide to have a “restaurant (with ample choice)” that is not really correct. What they have is a marquee with plastic tables and chairs selling pizzas and only pizzas! The WIFI for which I was given a code would not work on my laptop, phone or tablet. Most other guests experienced the same problem. When I complained, they offered no solution, just ridiculous and irrelevant suggestions. In the end we all gave up trying. There is however one bit of good news. We did see beavers, but not on the campsite, but 300m downstream from the campsite at dusk, about 9.00 in the evening, and at quite a distance (about 150m).

We absolutely loved staying at this campsite! It was so quiet and peaceful compared to all the other loud and noisy ones. Right on the river which was perfect for swimming, paddling, sunbathing on the rocks, playing with inflatable tyres, lovely local walks, Florac was beautiful - perfect French village. We only used our car to go into Florac and to buy food/supplies. Nicole was fabulous and made us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Perfect! Thank you so much!

My wife and I had a delightful 2 night stay during a quiet mid-June in 2016. Nicole, the owner/manager was so helpful and suggested a perfect driving circuit taking in the best if the Tarn Gorge and it's picturesque villages. My wife had heard about the resident Beaver family and was delighted by a glimpse of one at dusk. Don't miss out on a pizza whilst you are visiting. They are excellent. Highly recommended camp site. Thankyou.
