Doable for a night or two. We had a corner room which was spacious and clean enough, although poorly furnished. The bathroom was a-okay, toilet and sink seemed fairly new but there were barely anywhere to put your things. The bed was incredibly firm and the windows weren't soundproof from outside noise so you'd hear dogs barking outside all night, i.e. may not sleep well.

We arrived in the middle of the day and had to wait 30 minutes for someone to check us in, even after notifying another employee as soon as we showed up. The location is on the outskirt of downtown, not bad but you won't get places unless you have a mode of transportation.

The restaurant was closed and probably has been since the pandemic. Frankly, the hotel appeared to hardly be operating from the outside with the lights off and not a soul in sight. Would've felt much safer if there'd been a key card scanner at the front entrance since the hotel and surrounding area was kind of eerie in the evening.

Large clean room with very little furniture but the bed was ok. The air-conditioner was very poor and the room was too hot. The TV did not work. The internet was reliable but very slow. The bathroom was ok. However, the reception staff are friendly and the restaurant serves good Thai food. I have stayed here before but this time it was disappointing.
It's overpriced for what you get but it is convenient for the bus station and the Thai consulate but not much else.

Aura is a great hotel if coming to do thai visa at consulate as short tuk tuk journey away. I stayed here for one night while waiting for visa to be processed. Room was fine for my needs, clean, comfortable bed, hot shower, kettle provided and decent wifi internet.

Restaurant downstairs was decent and ate in there while waiting for consulate to open.

All tuk tuk drivers know the hotel and you can get them to pick you up at hotel and take you to consulate for visa collection and then onto the Laos / Thai border immigration. This was very helpful as day i went was hammering down with rain, so walking not possible. I think fare for that was around 300 baht between the 2 of us.

All in all would recommend this hotel especially if coming to sort thai visa etc.

Our tour organised changed last minute and we had to go to this place. It is 15 minutes walk outside downtown. Take care for the stray dogs, they are aggressive and very loud, also during the night. The breakfast is a big laugh. Terrible service, started 30 minutes later then they announced.

Stayed here before. Service very good. I was lucky, got a suite (bedroom & living room) for just a little bit more as normal price (single room). Very confortable beds. Restaurant downstairs also pretty good and with nice decoration. Staff so friendly.
Food very good.

Aura residence is comfortable with spacious rooms and nice beds. Room has a fridge, TV and kettle. Bathroom is nice but shower has cold water. WiFi is free throughout. Housekeeping clean in the morning which is nice because you may be stuck in the room as there is not much to do. Restaurant has good food and breakfast, which is included. Coffee is not nice. They did try make it better when I complained. The man working at reception is very helpful. Ask reception for a taxi to go to the consulate, he charges 200 THB and will wait until you finish. The only down side is they charge you for any damages, I had to clean a mess in my room and the only cloth I had was a worn out hand towel so this got dirty and I was told to pay for it. Pay in cash only, no credit card facilities. THB is accepted everywhere. This is a really good place to stay if you want to be near the Thai consulate.

The hotel is just 300 yards from the bus station that you have to get to get the bus to enter Laos. A short 15 minutes walk to the Thai Embassy as well so it it could not be more convenient. The hotel is clean and very modern for Laos and good value includes breakfast which was reasonable I believe you could hire bikes from the hotel reception . There is a bar very close by called The Beer House ..just follow the live music. It serves food and has live bands which were very good. Overall the best place to stay in Savanakhet.

So I suppose you should consider the hotels location of savannakhet when reviewing this place. The area is no doubt limited in supplies and good english speaking staff.
I have stayed here twice for 2 nights. In 2018 and 2019.
Communication with the hotel via email is a breeze and they usually respond within the day.
I think it is 800 baht a night walk in rate.
Reception always has a good English speaker working and check in is easy.
There is a lift and also free wifi throughout the hotel.
The rooms are fine really. Similar to what you would get for the same price range in Thailand.
There is a kettle for coffee. 2 bottles of water each day. No safe box that I remember. Balcony. My TV was fine and had no issues. You get Thai TV channels via a digital box coming in the AV input. Hot shower. Soap and stuff.
I had 2 pairs of random thongs/shoes in my room that I thought perhaps the housekeepers forgot but they were there throughout my stay.
Rooms are cleaned daily and housekeeping are very nice and happy.
Now a lot of the experience of this hotel revolve around the dining side of things as after you check in that is where all your staff interaction will be each day.
My first year here I had no problem. I do remember the staff would stare at me blanky quite often. The demeanour of the restaurant staff is a little bit odd. They seem very scared or shy or something. I understand they may not understand English much but this seems different.
Anyway the restaurant only has Thai/Laos food apart from Eggs and toast in the mornings.
The coffee is quite rough.
Tea - They only offer green tea.
Banana - Chocolate shake is quite nice.
My first night I ordered the Tom Yam fried rice which was delicious, red, spicy and flavorful. So I ordered it again the next night and they send a normal fried rice. The waiter told me it was Tom Yam and with a big smile happily agreed it had no chilli and was not good. There seems to be no training or manager to resolve any issue.
Really it should be changed or taken off the bill but don't expect that here. Twice I paid for things that I did not order. I am pretty easy going and don't make a fuss but it certainly affects my decision to stay again.
Also about 2.30am I was woken by an Asian guest (not Laos maybe Vietnamese) knocking on the door of a nearby room for about 7 minutes until the guy finally opened the door to hear he wanted access for some reason.
I don't think the hotel is unsafe at all but perhaps familarise yourself with where to get help if you need it.
Location is a 5 min walk from the bus station and a 15-20 min walk to Thai immigration. It is an ok walk and taxi is not really necessary unless your old perhaps.
Taxi to Aura from the border is 25000 kip or 200 baht maximum.
The place called Avalon is the same as Aura in that they are 2 different businesses that share the same building. Similar rooms etc.
Overall this place is ok but the lack of resolution to simple problems in dining area has spoiled my view of the place a bit.
Also they do run a bike tour from this hotel I believe.

I paid 1600 baht for 2 nights when I arrived. For the 1st day the TV was not working at all. Due to a public holiday I had to extend by 1 more night. I did this with Agoda for 640 baht, a good saving. On the 2nd day I dropped a glass and reported it to reception. It was replaced when the room was cleaned. On checking out the reception manager asked for 100 baht for the broken glass. I queried this and told him that the price list on the back of the door stated 50 baht for a glass. He did not believe me and I had to wait while he went up to the room to see for himself. He arrived back at reception without an apology and wrote a receipt for 50 baht. I reminded him that for one day I was without a tv service, and he still wanted the 50 baht. I stayed for three nights, but will look for another place next time. Standards have slipped, and I do not like feeling ripped off. I feel the manager was trying to cheat me. It's not about the very small sum of money, but the principle. Beware.
