This is my favorite place to stay in Savannakhet ! I have been living in Laos for 3 years in the countryside of the province and each time I come to the city I come to Sala Thongyon to relax.
The garden is just amazing, like an oasis 10min walking to the city center (3min in moto), the bungalows are simple but nice and clean, bathrooms have water heater and are clean as well. They upgraded the rooms just before my stay to add a local touch by displaying handicraft which looks very nice. Breakfast was simple but perfect really with toasted baguette, eggs, fresh fruits and tea (or coffee).
They have information about the ecotourism sites and tours available around the city and in the province.
The owners are incredibly nice and caring, they make me feel like family everytime. They bring such good vibes to this place. I could go to a hotel to have a bigger room and a TV but their attentions and relationship with the guests add so much.
Don't forget to bring your moskito repellent! They don't make food anymore except for breakfast

We had the best time at Sala Thongyon - Sai the owner was a breath of fresh air. She was so relaxed yet so helpful she really made our stay as great she could. We liked it here so much we ended up staying 3 extra nights! The bungalows were clean and very comfy and not too hot with the fan. The location is beautiful and really makes you forget you are in a city. You can also walk to the local market for a great dinner within 10minutes.

We were cut fresh coconuts from the trees in the garden - may i add free of charge. We even had a group BBQ where Sai took us to the local market to get all the food we needed - great experience! We really felt like a family here and would 1million% go back.

We cannot recommend Sai and her bungalows enough. Lovely lady. Lovely stay.

Thank you!
Unfortunately I no longer have a phone so cannot upload the pictures as she requested!

Super relaxing for our first destination in Laos. The bungalows were quaint and nice. The owners were super friendly and helpful. If you want to get away from the craziness of the cities this is the place. Not too much to do in town but enough for a two day stay. Only down side is that the wifi is not good at all. But you can walk down the street 10 mins to a super nice cafe. I recommend this place if you want a really relaxing get away.

First, make sure you can run faster vs stray dogs. If you have no car or motorbike, i dont recommend this place. no local restaurants nearby, it hard to find a place to by foods. When i enter the room i noticed that there is aircon inside but no remote to switch it on, i asks the lady, the one who check me in. Then she said i need to pay extra 150.000kip. Inside that room feels like you are inside a big oven, during the night is fine. Inside the room theres a bed, ceiling fan, thats it. Inside the toilet theres mirror, wash basin, toilet bowl, water heater that doesnt work.. thats it.. balcony: there are 2 chairs and 1 ashtray. No fridge and tv.. The good things... you'll feel you are closer to the nature, & you will feel that you are very far wherever you from. Not comfy and accessible but you will feel the life in the province of laos. If that is what you looking for then stay here. =)

Upon check-out I was charged for the room 2nd time by the woman who maid check-in. I told her that I already had payed upon arrival, reminded her how she asked me whether I pay now or later & I said of course now as I always pay at check-in, but she said there is a note in her notebook saying I didn't pay.. It's 1st time I had such experience and from now on I'll always ask at reception some paper proving that I payed.

Sala Thongyon
- Actually, I do not have any words to describe my level of satisfaction with this guesthouse. 11/10 Super Excellent. Exceeded the expectations that my friends and I thought of.
- If you want to stay at your second home at Khaysone Phomvihane, go to Sala Thongyon and enjoy it, you will become a distinguished guest. This is not a guest house, it is a great garden bungalow, a small cozy room to a bed covered with a dust-proof cloth, a very clean bathroom and good water pressure. Mrs. Nat (who has hosted us from outside) speaks English very well.
- Our group spent all 3 meals here (lunch, dinner and breakfast the next day) because of the wonderful cooking skills of Ms. Nat and her family members. They are very enthusiastic and always consider you as a family member, nothing better than that.
- Moreover, small actions such as burning incense sticks in the room, lighting a candle on the dining table or always taking care and smiling with us. That makes all, peak service of the tourism industry.
- It's a pity that we only stayed 1 night and had to leave the next morning, the moment of breaking up was very emotional, almost tearful. Hopefully, I will have times to visit Sala Thongyon again.
- SINCERELY THANK YOU, Mother. Nat ! You & your team make us feel like home when we stay with Sala Thongyon ! And I cherish the conversations with "Mr. SECRET" (the man from Chiang Mai, Thailand).

The place is good with a very reasonable price. The owner was very helpful to us. Not too close from night market but its good to walk 10 minutes. The place is safe because they close the gate at 12 midnight for the safety of their guest.

Location: just 3minutes drive to night market (central place for entertainment and visiting).
Host is a retired woman loving nature, so the house really looks like a mini resort with a small garden in the middle. I found it really relaxing staying here.
The room is cleans and quite spacious, however, no aircon, so it was quite hot during night time but for one who like natural atmosphere, this can be nice.
I booked here for 1 night first and left to Vang Vieng, but then when came back, I booked a stay here again.
Will come back.

Me and my friends came around 7pm Receptionist couldnt speak English, we had to write the price down and count with her. There is some beautiful bungalow and the garden but it is under upkeeping and preparing. The room like an oven but they ask for 150.000 kip sercharged for Airconditioner that is so rediculous but we was so tired so we didnt need and turn on the fan. Motorbike for rent was supper expensive than out side. Love the peacefull place but hope this will be better in the future.

Sala Thongyon is such a warm, friendly, and comfortable place to stay. We have stayed with the sisters who own the property twice and hope to return again in the future. It is a magical place to live and relax.

The bungalows are set in a beautiful location in a quiet part of Savannakhet, an already quiet city. Nearby there are many things to see and many choices for food. You also don't feel at all like you are caught up in the hustle and bustle of a touristy area — Sala Thongyon is a small place and you feel part of the city itself.

Very highly recommended.
