The staff at Cala Luna is fantastic. Jordies, Danny, Daniel, Eddie, Silvia, Amanda, Marco, andres and everyone honestly made my sister and I feel right at home, so comfortable and so well taken care of. The food at the hotel is the best in Tamarindo and the pool is stunning. They set chairs up on the beach area for us and there are tide pools to swim in.
Cala Luna is so much more than a boutique hotel in Tamarindo. Every staff member made us feel like family and catered to our needs. Jose at the front desk, Daniel in the bar, Aliche and Brian in the dining room and the fun guys running the little beach bar stand (Sorry, forgot your names!) The chefs create beautiful and delicious meals using nearly all organic foods from their own organic farm. Perfect for vegetarians as well as meat lovers. The amazing breakfast buffet and exotic cocktails on the beach at sunset every evening are included with the room. As are the daily movement classes; yoga & functional workout. We enjoyed these nearly everyday. Situated a short walk from Playa Langosta, Cala Luna allowed us to we spend most of our time walking the beaches, swimming in the waves and we even took a surfing lesson. The hotel outdoor eating spaces were quiet and relaxing. Everything was Peaceful, private and meditative. Having the amenities of the town of Tamarindo nearby added to our enjoyment. If you’re planning a trip to these beautiful beaches of Tamarindo don’t miss a one-of-a-kind experience of a sound yoga meditation session with Andrea at Cala Luna. She gently and expertly guided my boyfriend and I through a series of stretches and poses that ended in a magical sound bath. The wooden floors reverberated as we lay in savasana, enveloped in the sound of singing bowls, flutes, gongs and more. I felt like the sound waves opened the cells in my body to healing and peace. Throughout we felt the gentle breezes, heard the birds and howler monkeys and took in all the scents of the tropical plants surrounding us. Everything else we experienced in Tamarindo was made better by this experience! And the Cala Luna was the perfect setting. We miss you already, Cala Luna!…
Beautiful boutique hotel within walking distance from the fun town of Tamarindo. We enjoyed our villa which had its own small pool. We enjoyed the bar by the pool and received excellent service from Brian. He is very friendly and engaging. He took great pride in the cocktails he prepared. In addition to Brian, we also enjoyed chatting with Andres.
I highly recommend staying here for a relaxing vacation! We did the sound healing and I woke up feeling like I had just slept for 8 hours, my mom did the Lahari treatment and said it was the best massage she’s ever had. There’s things for adventure seekers as well, they helped us set up a turtle tour & kayaking which made it so easy. Not a ton of kids which is nice when you wanna have quiet at the pool and restaurants. Speaking of food… it’s the BEST food I’ve had on vacation, breakfast, lunch, & dinner were all so delicious, try as much as you can! Cocktails, smoothies, juices, etc. were all fantastic as well. I also want to mention the staff because they were SOO accommodating and friendly!! This place is a must stay here in Tamarindo! I WILL be back!!
We got to the hotel on Jan 2 ( 2 rooms) and rooms smell with very strong scent - strong to the point that my son started to breeze very heavily ( he has asthma) and my husband started to cough. We came back to the front desk telling them that room odor was extremely strong and that we could not stay because of it. Both rooms smelled very bad. They said sorry but there is nothing we could do about it. Rooms in general are very dated and property all around has trees that are not cut and you are walking you are hitting palms with your head. Our room was also located right near the area where the furniture ( or a damp) is being dumped. All reviews make this hotel sound special and thus we booked it. We left the property and asked to get refund for 2 rooms for 4 night. Manager never contacted us or tried to make it good. He just told expedia through which we booked that they are going to go with cancellation policy. This was by far our worst experience with customer service and hotel in costa rica. I would thin twice about staying here especially if you don't want to inhale some strange scents. Also sheets are not cotton but rather feel polyester. They kept our $4K without a blink. just like that. I wanted to share this experience so other travelers can make better choices when selecting a hotel.…
My husband and I got married at Cala Luna and it was the best decision of our lives. Paola was an EXPERT at pulling the details together and integrating our family and friends into the experience. Our group was 24 people total and the hotel was accommodating whenever we wanted to do anything as a group. The place was separated and quaint enough where it was possible to group off and enjoy experiences as a couple without running into others. The restaurants and bar use fully organic ingredients and the food was OUTSTANDING!! The villas were spacious, all of the rooms were well equipped, and everyone agreed that it was a magical stay from start to finish. The employees quickly became friends and we will miss them dearly. Don’t wait to book your stay… we can’t wait to come back!
I could write a rave review about this place, but I all I really need to tell you is the following story. When we were at Cala Luna, we met a family from Canada. Pre-kids, the parents lived in Tamarindo for 10 years. They have stayed at the Diria and many other Tamarindo places, but now they choose to only stay at Cala. The End. But I'll do a review anyway! I stayed at this place in January 2023 with my husband and two children aged 5 and 7 years. We had a 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom villa with private pool. We found our villa to be spacious and well-appointed - total decadence. The kitchen had high-quality appliances and was easy to prepare meals in. The fridge was full size. There were high-quality plates, bowls, glasses, wine glasses - you name it. All there. Total convenience! The bedding was extremely comfortable and the bathrooms were very spacious and luxurious. The villas were very private, though not perfectly private, as there were some gaps between the plants. Also, the pool maintenance workers would come in to the "backyard" area without warning in the morning (keep your blinds closed until you're dressed!) The restaurant - well where to start? I have *never* eaten at any hotel restaurant more times than this one. It is simply the best. They make everything from scratch, even the juices that go into the cocktails. The chef is amazing. The food was such a highlight here, including the included buffet breakfast. What a treat! If you like cocktails, you HAVE to try the Vibra (with mezcal). I DON'T recommend the Sand-gria - it's amazing, but I reckon it contains about 3-4 standard drinks! It's a bit strong. The resort is metres (over a laneway + 50 metres) from the beach, and free cocktails are served on the beach at 5pm daily. Visiting the beach is virtually labour-free, as staff will set up lounges for you on the beach, and they also bring down towels and water. Just show up in your bathers and you have a day at the beach. You can even order from the pool menu at the beach (please note this is not a private beach as such, but it's not often frequented by others). The beach itself is SPECTACULAR, with beautiful white(ish), fine sand and volcanic black rocks, however at low tide it is not super fun to swim in, due to loads of rocks underfoot, and strong undertow. However, it's lovely to swim in at high tide in my opinion. The villas and rooms of this resort are set inside remnant forest. This means you will regularly see wildlife, including north american raccoons. They are smaller than their "north north American" counterparts, and are outrageously playful and cute. We also saw Howler Monkeys and an iguana even took a dip in the main pool. The resort has between 5 and 10 resort cats, who are very well loved and cared for. Some may want to join you in your room, which is very sweet. Slight criticisms (please bear in mind this was high season, so I tried to cut them some slack): - they highlight on check in that you can What's App message them any request you like. I messaged a few times to book services, and either nobody responded, or nobody responded until I prodded. I likewise let them know that my tablet wasn't working via the What's App, and no one ever followed it up. Later, I called reception to further advise them that my tablet wasn't working, and still nobody followed it up. - spa menu needs to be updated. There were multiple treatments or activities on there that apparently nobody has heard of when you try to book it, OR the specific person that does that activity has "moved on" / left the resort or no longer has a relationship with the resort. - the driver they booked us for the transfer back to Tamarindo airport was extremely reckless. Even 200 metres from the airport, he was aggressively overtaking multiple vehicles at once. When he arrived to collect us, he also berated everyone around him in Spanish about a mix up, thinking I couldn't understand his Spanish. That is a really weird assumption. I know we white, native English-speaking people aren't like "super" famous for bothering to learn other languages, but still, lots of us do. He was yelling at everybody, saying that he was now going to run half an hour late, and he was also complaining about us too, because we were about 5 minutes late arriving to reception. In the end I said to the reception staff member, in Spanish, I can understand everything he is saying. The staff member was very apologetic. Far more importantly than throwing a tantrum, however, is the fact that he was an appalling driver. We took DOZENS of transfers across and around Costa Rica over the course of a month, and this guy was the only driver we had that was inept. I begged my husband to tell him to pull over, but ultimately, it was only a one-hour transfer, and we had paid thousands of dollars for the non-refundable flight we were destined for. We were all packed up and it just seemed silly to ask him to drop us in the middle of absolutely nowhere with four suitcases and four backpacks. We were fine in the end, but I resolved to share my experience on Tripadvisor. - Another negative was the Functional Fitness class. To be very clear, Scott himself, the main person in charge, is absolutely LOVELY. However, the way the class is run at the moment, I would say - don't do this unless you are essentially all about fitness - e.g. go to gym every day, are a fitness influencer, or something like that. I go to the gym twice a week and have a personal trainer twice a week; I'm 165cm and 54kg and can run 5 kilometres. My husband also has a PT. There was no way we could keep up with this class. This was weird, since we were the only two people in it. There was this other lady, who I thought was a hotel client, but she was apparently a secondary fitness instructor, as Scott let her run part of the session. Like Scott himself, she is somewhere within the professional athlete or professional influencer sphere - virtually no body fat and super strong - the way I totally wish I was but will never be LOL. Unfortunately when she ran her bit of the session, she went really fast and was totally impervious to the fact that we had been left behind and I had stopped altogether. In fact, it was more like watching her do her own workout. Meanwhile, hubby and I had super daggy clothes on; we hadn't come to Costa Rica specifically with work out clothes, and we had just cobbled together light, comfortable clothing with runners. Not very California of us, however we didn't realise it would be a fashion show with Californians; we later heard the secondary fitness instructor apparently making fun of our outfits at breakfast (she said there were some "very interesting outfits" at the session, and we were the only two people there, LOL!!! She could have been talking about something else, but my husband has very flamboyant taste and had polka dot board shorts on with Air Jordans .... what I can say. The "interesting outfits" were very likely ours, given that breakfast was mere minutes after the session ended!) Anyhow, whatever she was talking about, and who knows, my humble and ultimately non-meaningful opinion is that this lady gave off super weird vibes (just a subjective opinion lawyers, just a subjective opinion!), and this experienced constituted my only negative experience at Cala. Luckily absolutely everything else was darn near perfect, and we met some really lovely people at Cala! We even made some friends. Hooray! There are definitely a lot of amazingly good looking people staying at Cala, and I was like man, I need to lift my game! Honestly though it was so chilled out and non-pretentious - we loved it. Honestly, I couldn't recommend this place more highly, for a special occasion or otherwise. They are also so accommodating of children - you can even dine right on the edge of the main pool while your kids swim. It's AMAZING!!!! Stay here if you ever get the chance.…
Absolutely FABULOUS!! The location, staff, facility, food were excellent! They completely transformed the pool area for the wedding reception. Our room was immaculate, the staff were so helpful. Special shout out to Jose, jordy, Daniel, Bryan, Marco and many others I can’t remember their names( but they never forgot mine!) the small details, like providing spa quality sunscreen and after sun care products were icing on the cake! I had a spa facial treatment that was the perfect combination of spiritual and physical soothing, I wish I could remember the therapist’s name. Would highly recommend the Luis Feng Gong vibrations and the Tibetan Singing Bowls.
Amazing resort! Arrived on a Thursday was so sad to leave today. The staff was phenomenal, Marco, Jordy, Brian, Daniel, Jose and I’m sure I’m missing a few others that I cannot recall their names. Quiet resort, beautiful pool and delicious food. Breakfast buffet was the best from any resort I stayed at. Traveled with a colleague for a wedding that went off without a hitch. End of reception we were all fully dressed in the pool. If I could get a job at this resort as a nurse I would never leave. Beach was rocky and not great for swimming but the chairs and service from Jordy made laying out worth it! Definitely will be back! Thank you Cala Luna for a wonderful restful trip!
The last 2022 sunset in Tamarindo was exiting, one the best you could ever see but the dinner after that was even better. The tasty menu was something completely different and well thought, I felt myself living a true Costa Rican gourmet experience full of vegetarian options and good drinks rounded by the hotel's garden. Beautiful place, beautiful people. A charming experience in a relaxing and holistic hotel. Hope come back there soon
