We’re family-owned and our passion shows. Cala Luna is one of the only hotels in Guanacaste, Costa Rica that remains green all year round. There are few barriers between us and nature. Open-plan spaces and secluded accommodations meld into the lush jungle that attracts more wildlife than anywhere else in the area – monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, birds, insects, and us. Within this natural retreat, we offer five-star barefoot luxury that’s open to everyone. We nourish our senses daily through delicious home-grown ingredients, gastronomic farm-to-table dinners, holistic wellness, spa therapies, and deep connection to Mother Earth. From dining with us at our homestead La Senda and walking the world’s largest labyrinth, to sipping cocktails on the beach as the sun slips over the edge of the ocean – you choose the memories to carry home. Welcome to an unforgettable experience and feel the Cala Luna vibes!

We stayed at Cala Luna for two nights—a very beautiful boutique hotel. The room was fantastic. We had two very comfortable queen beds. The bathroom shower area was unique…like you’re showering in a sunken tub. I would have liked a rain showerhead, though. Short walk to the beach. At 5 pm, they had complementary cocktails while you watched the sunset over the Pacific. The included breakfast was top-notch. Coffee was given in a French press. Nice touch. My wife did a fantastic included yoga session. The pool was a nice size. Around the evenings, howling monkeys came by. We had dinner at their farm to table restaurant. Plenty of vegetarian options. Shout out to Jeffrey, Charlie and Andrea for the yoga.

My wife and I had a truly exceptional experience staying here. It’s an oasis that feels far away from the crowds of Tamarindo when in fact it’s very centrally located. The local surf breaks are all right here making this a perfect destination for discerning surf travellers who appreciate good food and wine as well as luxury accomodations. All of the staff were attentive to our every need 24/7 in such a personable friendly way. The dining is incredible with organic farm to table produce prepared by one of Costa Rica’s best chefs. Eating all of our meals here left us feeling nourished and refreshed. Special thanks to Walter, Danny, Charlie, Andres, Andrea, Jose, and all of the other staff who made us feel like family. We will be back!

Our family group of 6 had a wonderful stay at Cala Luna. The facility itself was first-rate. The restaurant was excellent -- the best in Tamarindo. The staff were friendly, attentive and professional. There was peace and quiet for those who wanted to relax. The front desk arranged memorable tours for those who wanted to get out and about. The hotel's transportation service -- Transportes Retana Molina -- made getting in and out of Tamarindo very easy. It was a great week!

Location 100% This hotel is far enough south of the busy town of Tamarindo, but you can walk, use one of the hotel’s complimentary bikes or pay $65 for a full 24 use of a golf cart to get into the action. My kids (8 & 9)LOVED the golf cart. The hotel beach is also lovely. While you won’t be riding the waves out there due to the rocks, there are nice spots to wade in and the hotel offers complimentary sunset cocktails every night, and it’s the perfect spot for a sunset. Food 100% We had no idea how fabulous this food was going to be. The complimentary breakfast offered a ton of variety. It was fresh and delicious. Lunch and dinner options are perfect for anyone with dietary restrictions (gluten, lactose). We don’t have dietary restrictions, but we have some picky eaters and it was not problem to modify or order off the kids menu. Service 100% They email you ahead of time to ask if you want them to set up some tours or a treatment at the spa. I was concerned when I responded with requests but didn’t hear back. Once we got there, everything we wanted to do could just be booked through them the day before. The service was WONDERFUL! They had our rooms cleaned crazy quickly. The bar and restaurant staff was super attentive and the front desk had everything we needed otherwise. Spa 100% The hotel offers a ton of activities like yoga, workouts, and they offered a group sound bath for $20/person. My family did the sound bath and it was transformative. Our kids fell asleep, but they still thought it was cool. The next day I had the full Lenghari (sp?!) massage ($170) with Priscilla and it was the best massage experience I’ve ever had. We hugged goodbye. We had a run in with a raccoon who followed us one night and we kind of freaked out, and fell off the path, but the raccoons, monkeys iguanas and many strong ants are abundant and harmless. We would stay here again and hope to come back one day.

We put a lot of thought in our review and probably would give Cala Luna a 3.5??? The resort looks beautiful, but we felt there was a lot missing from our experience. The good… We did the farm to table dinner at La Senda and it was AMAZING! Highly recommend doing this. You visit Cala Luna’s owner’s 74 acre farm. Their house is spectacular and you are able to walk the 1.7 mile labyrinth before dinner. It was an unforgettable experience in a really good way. The morning breakfasts were good. The food was light and fresh. We rented a golf cart and loved using it to go in and out of town. Even though you are only a mile from the main road in town, the golf cart made it easy to go to dinner or visit a larger beach. The disappointing… do NOT stay in villa 104!!! It is at the far end of the resort and across the street from a bar which has live music every night. We purposely picked a resort off the main road so it would be quiet, well, our villa was not quiet! The music played until 10pm every night. It doesn’t sound bad, but 3 out of 4 of us ended up with stomach issues one night and the music was painful. Honestly, the music was annoying every night. We picked a “wellness” resort and hoped for a little Zen. Our villa, liked the resort, looked nice, but it did not function so well. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang our towels. Housekeeping did not supply us with extra toilet paper – and let’s just say we needed it. Sounds silly, but they could have provided us with a pitcher of cold water in our refrigerator. We were hoping for more than one class a day and for the price, I would expect it to be included but most (not all) classes charge $20 a person. The main pool and beach area have limited seating so we hung out at our private pool in our villa, but there were only 2 lounge chairs for a 2 bedroom villa. We did laundry, which we knew was not included, but we were charged $104 and did not have that much laundry. I guess overall we felt the place was nice, but not that nice for what we spent. I would recommend checking out an Airbnb or VRBO, but definitely try the farm to table dinner at La Senda. That was well worth the time and money!

This place is lovely. It is a little off the beaten path but that’s what makes it special. Be prepared to see and hear howler monkeys. We spotted them near the spa. The ocean is beautiful but you have to be mindful of the tides and rocks when you go in. This place prides itself on holistic practices so expect a few ants in your room. Really wasn’t a problem. Beware of the insect repellent that they provide. It doesn’t work. The bathrooms are the nicest we had in Costa Rica. Some of the nicest ever. The staff was great. A shout out to Chris. Unfortunately the restaurant was hit or miss but pleasant just the same. We had some great live music the last night of our stay. They provide free cocktails by the beach at sunset.

Loved this hotel so much. I was very luxurious for a pretty affordable price. The staff was very accommodating and the food was amazing (the sliders by the pool were surprisingly amazing)! Check out the restaurant too. Joanna was so pleasant and knowledgeable.

Great hotel in good quiet area. Wonderful large rooms. Bathrooms with tub. Great pool area, beautiful surroundings. Found the bass drum music bit disturbing however (propably poor sound system). Bech access and complimentary sunset drinks. Beach is bit rocky but on high tide nice and beautiful.

Amazing holistic experience at lahari spa . My husband had Priscilla who was absolutely amazing. I had Johana who is unbelievable and has a strong spiritual side . She definitely works here for the right reasons , it’s her calling . I visited their spa as I was dealing with something very traumatic in my life. If this is you or just simply need some relaxation, peace and stillness, visit lahari spa. The owner , Andrea , has passion for her Buisness , such a beautiful person inside and out . She has helped me more than she knows, I’m sure. Everyone has heartache or rough patches in their life , and I think Andrea used this energy and passion toward the successfulness in her Buisness, and it clearly shows . Thanks again Andrea , Johana , and Priscilla . Keep doing what you do. Andrea and Johana , I will remember you always , and always have a place for you in my heart , even though we only just met . ♥️

I am staying at Cala Luna, this is my last full day, and I felt compelled to write a review since I am so impressed with the service here. We can communicate with the reception via WhatsApp 24/7, and the staff has been incredibly efficient, answering within minutes, always providing what I needed (even glue for my daughter's art project!). The staff is so friendly, everyone is smiling and makes you feel welcomed. The location is perfect, 1 min walk from the beach, and they offer complimentary sunset drinks on the beach daily, and they are actually great drinks (and almost feel healthy, as they use fresh fruit juices to mix). The setup is beautiful, we are surrounded by nature and we can see (and hear!) a family of howler monkeys every day. The breakfast spread (included) is delicious, fresh local fruits every day, and delicious huevos rancheros (but you can get eggs any way, or pancakes...). I also took the yoga class this morning with Andrea, she was so healing, her words, the sounds, the surroundings, the smells, the movement... all my senses were awakened. I strongly recommend this magical place, and I am grateful to the whole team at Cala Luna.
