I highly recommend this hotel, It is clean, the staff is nice, the food and drinks are great and it is a close walk to main part of Tamarindo. My husband and I would definitely go back. We enjoyed watching the surfers and listening to the band in the afternoon. Very reasonably priced as well.

Dont Come! We had a bad start with reception who did not give us the room key at first and we have to come back for getting the card The wifi is not working in the room while staf have no clue on how to fix it Old facility, bad foods, bad experience

The resort & beach is beautiful! The staff was excellent! We did not have hot water for 2 days over the weekend, but water heaters go out... Not too big of a deal! It was fixed first thing on Monday morning!

3* overcrowded hotel where staff don't really have time for you. Food was averag and catered for the masses. Bland and just not appealing. Getting a taxi was a nightmare as noone wanted to help. However, we emailed the hotel prior with a special birthday request and they gave us a really great room with a sea view. We really appreciated that. I'd avoid if you're a young couple. Go to boutique hotel instead. We wanted our stay to be perfect and actually found an amazing hotel 12mins away and stayed there for 2nights instead (even though we'd already pre-paid for the occidental)

We had an excellent stay at the Occidental. The pool and ocean were both excellent places to kick back. The beach is beautiful and food was very fresh and delicious. I do wish that coffee was available before 7am. The coffee maker in our room required pods, but they didn't have any, which was weird. A minor complaint.

Nice property. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious with different options daily. Pool was great and the beach was awesome. We were with our adult children and there was something for everyone.

Staff was friendly. The food was horrible. Poor quality of food. I've had better hospital food. The place was basically like vacationing at a senior center. My room smelled like septic system. I felt like I was in a retirement home. Depressing. Music was annoying. Everything looked dated.

Our February 2023 stay was filled with gorgeous views and exciting excursions with excellent tour guides, and so many wonderful and helpful hotel employees. We were always looked after, either at the buffet or around the pool with warm smiles and helpful conversations. The food at the buffet was scrumptious but there was not always alot of variety and sometimes the meats were overcooked, We all looked forward to the breakfast buffet with the delicious omelettes and an abundance of variety of fruit to choose from too. We loved taking part in the water exercises each morning in the pool. Thank-you for making our stay so enjoyable. Our tour guide, 'Fred' was honestly a book of knowledge as we travelled across Costa Rica and got on our river boat tour to see so many amazing animals and birds. The guides always went above and beyond to make our tours even more enjoyable. We were travelling with others who had mobility issues and the guides and employees were always willing to offer added assistance to help my sisters and make the tours more safe and welcoming. Overall, we were very impressed with the hospitality and service from all the employees. We will be glad to come back again. …

This resort was AWESOME!! ALL the staff were very friendly & helpful at all times!! The food was very good with alot to choose from.... The desserts were excellent!! Topped with ice cream!! .... Entertainment was great and alot of fun!! Pool was clean & refreshing! We will definitely be back next year.

The Occidental Tamarindo is very well run, with excellent facilities (rooms, restaurants, pool, snack bar, theatre, etc.) and friendly, helpful staff. The overall atmosphere lends to a relaxing, stress-free vacation. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, and the location is a couple of minutes' walk to a beautiful, sandy beach on the Pacific where you can watch pelicans diving for fish and walk in the sunshine. It's also within comfortable walking distance of the town of Tamarindo in case you want to do something off-resort. Overall, the resort and its staff are very good.
